Editing Older Posts

AngelicSavant

Wielder of the Written Word
So, I went back to re-read some older posts of mine in an RP (about a month old now), and they're chock full of broken code with no editing option. Is there anything I can do to repair them?

If they're still under the roleplay forums, you should still be able to edit them.  There should be an 'Edit' button on the bottom left corner of the post.  If your roleplay was archived (which seems unlikely given the age of the forum you were reading), then there's no way for you to personally edit those posts.

There should be the option to edit; the only exception is if they are in the archives. Can you provide a screenshot so we can figure out how best to help? :)

I looked into it, and all you can do is just go through it and delete the broken code. I'm afraid there aren't much options for it, especially not if you're not the GM or owner.

Last time I went through my old threads they did seem to be editable though.

Right now, I can't even edit posts from just the other day :/  Maybe I'm missing something here. This is the screencap:

Edit button is not in existence.

Try putting it in the default mode. Nightlyfe seems to be missing a few features.

In a previous post Bookmarks were also gone. So if it does pop up in default but not in nightlyfe just PM an admin to report the problem, because then it's a site code thing.

I am not sure how theme related it is.  I am able to edit roleplay posts over 2 years old.

Hmm, fair enough. Then I'm not sure what might cause it, because clearly you're the owner and it can't be old enough to be archived if you edited it wednesday...

I'll look up my old threads and see if I might encounter the same problem.

Alright in the old content I started my rights to edit posts belonging to someone else have also been revoked. I can't edit things I didn't explicitly post, that might have something to do with it.

As far as the broken code goes, I might be able to help with that. Is it BBCode? Or just HTML? Because my idea is that you perhaps put it through a BBCode or HTML previewer. This might get rid of most of the code.

I'll test with my old posts, brb with results.

I am curios as to whether users in the same roleplay are also experiencing the same thing.  It could very well be a permissions issue as Wizard has predicted.

I talked to one of them and they said their editing button was still there. I'll run it past the GM, though

I'm on my PC right now, as opposed to the laptop I usually use when I'm on RPN. If that matters.

Thats a hosted project. The creator could have either accidentally or intentionally removed the ability to edit posts within their roleplay. I recommend you to reach out to the creator and if they need help they can reach out to myself or any of the other staff members.

Hmm, looking through my old RPs, it seems that the BBCode that can be unscrambled actually has been. The only thing that is missing is the imagefloats and certain off the radar types of code. I don't think there is anything you can do about besides edit these things out when your permissions have been restored.

I would like to note however that my permissions in old school threats are also reduced to just my own posts.

If it is a hosted project problem with permissions I can guide @AngelicSavant through the options if he is the actual owner, or if said owner doesn't know how to do it and did it on accident.

The permissions can get really tricky to find.

Angel is not the owner of the hosted project, which is part of the problem.  They said they'll be reaching out to them. ^^

Are permissions different for members/supporters? That's the only thing that's changed on my account in the last 24 hours, and the GM says they haven't changed any permissions.

Permissions should not be different for regular members and supporters for a hosted project (I'm a supporter myself and can edit posts normally).
