All of the subjects were released, but not all made it out of the original facility. Some willfully got recaptured, some were performing tests at the time of the escape and were subdued, and some just plain didn't make it out.

I omitted this part in my post, because it's already quite lengthy (my opening post will be very long, but hopefully there won't be any as long afterwards), but each cage is specially designed so that the subject it contains can't break out of it. Whatever your manipulation is, they designed your cage against it. For example, if you can manipulate heat, your cage is head resistant and has automatic fire extinguishers (for temperature control) designed into it.


 
Just posted the opening paragraph. Unless you specify that you don't want to be in the main cell block on Kai's floor, your cage just opened and you are able to join the escape.

My first post is just big because it's an opener. My only post requirement is that it's at least 3 sentences (hopefully a full paragraph). I'm waiting for two or three people to post for me to go again. Probably one more, maybe two if they're quick.
