Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

The world has already ended. In the year 2012, it did not go out with a bang, but a whimper. Contagion of the most lethal kind, undead abominations rose from their half-dug graves, spreading their infection by tearing throats out by the masses. Its origins are still disputed, but one thing is for certain: the world, as it was known, would never be the same again.
Yet, with the unadulterated spirit of survival, man could not be deterred. As society crumbled, and establishment found itself reduced to anarchy in the face of military unification, and totalitarianism in the face of resistance, it sought to renew itself again. Some years after the end of 'everything', things began to look up. While no cure could be found, and many had been tested, reclaiming cities became less and less hard to do. Those who were already lost to the wastes did not return, but to those who were keen to live under the thumb of government and military, where it was safe and resources were bountiful, it was the restart needed.
Life began to normalize. The undead insurgence, Z-Day as many call it, became a blip in the past. Humanity became stronger together, even if pocket groups of rebellions still persisted. A new golden era, though tainted by blood and death, brought forth an increase in intellectual pursuits. Children who grew up fearing what could happen if they left the vigilant eyes of their parents were able to learn again, safely, and jobs were less saturated toward survival and more toward personal interest.
Despite the zombies still scratching to get in, there was a chance to reclaim time lost.
Twenty years have passed since Z-Day. While most would like to move on and forget the horrible things that had occurred, a pocket of researchers out of the CDC, in a joint effort with the California Institute of Technology and their students, stumbled upon a revolutionary discovery. Their research revealed that, in fact, a prehistoric corpse uncovered from Antarctica housed a type of fungus in its system that, when exposed to the tainted zombie blood, completely eradicated the traces of infection. While the sample size was too small for mass production found within the ice mummy, the potential existed-- and thus, they sought to find more of it.
Pairing with the Australian government, a group of ten unfortunates from all walks were granted the privilege to travel to Antarctica to perform a proper excavation and analysis of the nearby area where said ice mummy was found. In hopes of finding something bigger than a single corpse, this quiet research effort is doused under red tape from all angles.
Isolated and tasked with a mission that could define the course of humanity's future, it is up to these scientists to uncover the truth. By any means necessary.
Hi ho! This RP is a mystery/horror based investigation into the unknown of the Antarctic, delving into topics and themes somewhat similar to zombie media as well as The Thing (a favourite movie of mine). Upfront it's gonna be 18+ for membership, and all the characters involved should be at minimum 20 years old. Considering this is a team composed of accomplished, or training, researchers and scientists, standard folks just won't cut it.
The backdrop is a post-apocalyptic return to normalcy, though everyone is keenly aware of zombies still being around. People still get infected, hoards do still form, but most nations have created giant utopias, with a heavy-handed government and military watch, though rebellion/independent societies and groups do remain. The year is 2032, and though it's 'the future', things have only progressed minorly (a sad fact of spending the last decade or so re-establishing humanity). There is a sort of Enlightenment going on, with a lot of investment and interest into creative and scientific arts-- much to the chagrin of oppressive government #200.
The RP will take place primarily on the Antarctica base, in Australian territory somewhere off of one of the major bases there (Davis, primarily). It is isolated but a quick quad ride about twenty minutes north will get you to somewhere 'populated').
I've been itching for something tight-knit, and I'm hoping you'd be interested too! There will be ten roles, as of now, but it may see to change if need be. DISCORD OOC IS MANDATORY.
One. Respect all site TOS, respect each other, things that don't need to be repeated since they should be known! This RP will probably venture into some darker territories, gore and whatnot, so please do not go overboard. When in doubt, spoiler it out.
Two. As mentioned, please only 18+.
Three. Characters, if in surplus, won't be first come first serve. Duplicates are expected and may be welcome, but if that isn't the case try to spread about in terms of roles. They are vague enough to have complete and unique angles, but communication is valued. The OOC will open once some interest is gathered, to talk and chat ideas. Please know that if there will be cuts, when the choices are made you will be booted from the discord. Please don't take it personally.
Four. Posts should be Advanced Lit/Lit, with no less than a paragraph per post, at minimum, at the worst case scenario. Posting frequency should be once a week at minimum, with however many at the fastest. We won't be rushing through much, and this will be slow-paced for everyone's comfort and schedules.
Five. No Anime FCs, please real life actors/actresses. If you're using an instagram model do check if they're okay/not okay with their image being on the internet (some aren't, from what i've seen). No drawings, please.
Six. If you have any questions let me know! I'm consistently forgetful, so if you need any lore things smoothed out prior to making a character just ask! I will probably post a more cohesive lore page at some point, depending on interest!
THE STUDENTS (2): University graduates or degrees in progress, with special interest to the topic being discovered, were hand-picked to assist on this extremely important venture. Whether they are working on their thesis or simply a dedicated student and lab-rat, they're fresh meat nonetheless.
THE SCIENTISTS (2): Hailing from the CDC, they represent the best interests of the initial research venture. Can come from any walk within the CDC, with special interest to the mission at hand.
THE RESEARCHERS (2): Professors or masters of their field, the researchers are the 'brains' of most of this, their interests lying in the potential archaeology discoveries at hand. While the research mission is to find more traces of this antibiotic fungus, the possibility of a frozen society beneath the ground is just as fascinating.
THE SPECIALIST (1): Unique to their field and a sought out recruit of the mission, the specialist is good at what they do. Up to any kind of specialization, still relevant, with a number of contributions to the scientific community.
THE MEDIC (1): The Doctor is in! A medic is most needed, especially someone equipped to deal with potential frostbite.
THE TECH (Taken, BELIAL. ): A whiz with computers, analysis and computation, they are a walking talking computer themselves. A glorified IT as much as the sole reliant for keeping all tech equipment safe from the cold or potential malfunction, they've got quite a bit on their shoulders.
THE LEADER (1): Assigned head of the base, the Leader may have a control over things by jurisdiction, but it is not required that they may be liked by everyone. They may also be completely pleasant and easygoing-- but how likable can you be if you're sent out to the frigid tundra to watch over a bunch of nerds?
