Drift [NorthernBard & indefinitelytired]

To say Cartwright has mixed feelings about his job would be the truth. Indeed he loves working on Jaegers; loves getting to work with the massive metal creatures, feeling them through his tools and work gloves and seeing them come back from the dead from behind his goggles or a welding mask. Though there is the twist in his gut that came with being told what needed to fix, knowing that him getting a paycheck results from giant monsters attack and destroying cities.

There was another of said attacks last night, and Cartwright is hanging fifty feet in the air prying off gnarled plates of external armor. He grips one and looks down to make sure the danger zone is still clear before yanking to plate free. He releases it and watches it clatter to the ground at the Jaeger's feet before going to work on another.

"You 'it anyone 'ight?" A voice calls from above. Cartwright sighs and looks up before shouting a reply back at the Scottish voice.

"I'd be daft if I did!" Cartwright calls back curtly before grappling a little lower down the Jaeger's side to the next torn plate.

"No 'eed 'o be so so'r 'ight! J'st 'ause you ain't good at s'oons don't mean you gotta be a babe!" Cartwright grinds his teeth and shouts another response back up.

"I'm not gonna do it Alex! I'm not even certified to drift!"

"In a' Jaeger you ain't. 'ut 'ologrum ar' a nother story!" The Scotsman, Alexander, retorts as he grapples down the Jaeger's side to join Cartwright. "'ust 'o it 'ight." Cartwright frowns and practically growls in displeasure. This is what he gets for attempting to gamble and have a little bit of fun.

"Alright, alright, go back to your bloody work and we'll talk later."

"What a wonderful conference. Don't you think Jen?" Erin says dreamily as he walks through the front hall of the shatterdome. The girl walking beside him groans in disgust and walks more quickly ahead of him. "What?" He laughs.

"Lay off, asshole." The girl snarls back as she rounds the corner.

He snorts, holding back laughter.

He folds his hands behind his head as he ventures deeper into the shatterdome. As he comes within sight of the Jaegers, he whistles. Caesar flutters to his shoulder and nuzzles his cheek. Erin strokes the bird's head and gazes up at his Jaeger. "What a beauty, huh?" Caesar coos his agreement. "Never gets old." He sighs dreamily.

His attention is suddenly taken as he hears a metal plate crash loudly to the ground. He looks up to see a couple of repairmen working on a nearby Jaeger. Caesar squawks. He glances back up at his Jaeger one last time before making his way to his room.
