Dragon-Blooded War Tree

I was flipping through my DB book again to plot a charm course for one of my characters when I noticed that Terrestrial War Reinforcement is the prereq to Enfolded in the Dragon's Wings.. However, the reinforcement requires War 3, Essence 2- Whereas Enfolded in the Dragon's Wings requires War 1, Essence 2 (Following the tree as well, its about 4 charms in until the requirements hit 3 war). Is this a mistake on White wolf's part and the requisite was meant to be any excellency?

This happened a LOT in the edition migration. Charms switched places on trees a lot, but rarely changed Ability/Essence prerequisites. It made this sort of thing happen all over. Even corebook trees have this issue.

The prerequisite is written as intended. They forgot to change the Ability/Essence requirements.

The only problem with that is that the requisite is a second tier excellency, meaning its requisites are just fine

Checked the errata- All is well. So! Custom war tree time. These are meant to act as training charms for both A) Training of soldiers (Obviously), but more importantly as a "primer" for Tiger Warrior Training

Preparation of Draconic Prowess- War 4, Essence 3

Cost: 10m, 2 wp

Req. Charms:Blazing Courageous Swordsmen Inspiration

Keywords: Obvious, touch, Training

Duration: One week

Each week of training requires 12 hours of training a day for its duration, allowing the Exalt to raise one of the following with each training session to a maximum of three (Drill is the only exception, which is allowed to be raised to 4)

Strength, Dexterity, Stamina, Archery, Dodge, Martial Arts, or Melee

(Cannot raise stats beyond his/her own)

--- Mortals can receive training up to their stamina in consecutive weeks, after which they begin to suffer one unsoakable level of bashing damage that cannot be healed without a week of intermittent rest

(May train up to his (essence / 2, rounded up) magnitude)

Forging of the Draconic Heart- War 5, Essence 4 (Perm. Enhances its requisite)

Cost: N/A

Req. Charms: Preparation of Draconic Prowess

Keywords: Obvious

The Dragon blood may train his soldiers in War, Integrity, Resistance, Survival, Relative craft, Medicine, Athletics, Stealth, Ride, Sail, and awareness now

Willpower: May be trained up to 5

The Dragon Blooded were never meant to be glorious generals or the supreme leaders among men. They were made to exist as Sergeants, field commanders... Masters of group-combat. Any soldier trained together with this charm who serves with someone of the same training gains two "phantom" specialty dice in fighting together (Coordinated attacks), and the Dragon blooded commander lowers the difficulty of any coordinated attack with said soldiers by two.

Im thinking (If the previously posted ones are met with little chagrin) that the next one along this path will allow for the trained soldiers a second chance at terrestrial exaltation, since the blood of the Dragons is spread out through millions of mortal bloodlines, and possibly increase the max on other buff charms so that they may benefit such a trained unit: I.E Blazing Courageous Swordsmen Inspiration can be used on anyone trained by this (To a max of the DB's motes)

The whole point of the Exaltation-process (whether Celestial or Terrestrial) is that it's (more or less) inviolate from outside influence (at least influence as 'simple' as a direct application of a Charm). The only given "manipulations of exaltations" in the setting are the Abyssals and Infernals - and they required Primordial-level intervention.

So right there I'd give the idea of a Charm increasing the chances of Exaltation a big no-no. *Especially* when it comes to Terrestrial exaltation, since it does not actually presuppose excellence. Just good genes.

(one could argue that teaching someone in this way will mark them more likely candidates for Celestial exaltation though, merely through increased merit - still, not in any quantifiable way).

Its effectively mimicking as though the soldiers were reaching essence 3 as Dragon Blooded half castes minus the bonus to recheck their exaltation. The capability of exaltation is within them (The mortals), it simply was not unlocked. Likewise, the chances are very slim at best, since they'll be of no breeding whatsoever. This, in no way, is affecting the exaltation- In fact it acts more like Purity Crucible Strike (Dreams of the First age, Lords of Creation- P. 82).

But really, input on the other charms rather than trying to debunk a hypothetical third would be appreciated

Well there is a canonical method for increasing the chance of DB exaltation. The neoma, demon of the first circle, can craft a child that truly is the genetic offspring of 2 donors of flesh but gets a bonus to there role to exalt.

That said in stories most DBs exalt at plot time, not according to any role. I think the charm could be problematic in play. Especially when I start using it on every house nelans offspring of an embarrassingly diluted line every day until they exalt. This will actually strengthen the lines up to a point (less dependence on relatives of DBs for breeding programs, because all the relatives exalt.

As to the other 2 charms. I like them. There is no inherent reason why terrestrials shouldn’t have training charms they are inferior to the solar training charms in almost every way and superior in none, but at the same time remains a very useful charm.
