Plot:
You were living your usual life, possibly as a farmer or adventurer until you suddenly awaken as if your life so far was the dream. You seem to be in a pod or capsule of some sort. After a couple of minutes, a man in grey overalls comes by and says something about your "station being defective". He introduces himself simply as "Janitor" and tells you to go see "Big Sister" for further instruction so you can get a temporary place to live in while you are waiting to go back to your pod.
Still very confused about the whole situation, you follow the janitor's instructions and end up in a big lobby area with a woman standing at a lone desk along the wall. The rest of the lobby is in a dimly illuminated blue hue and there are multiple potted plants and couches to sit down at. You confusedly ask when big sister will arrive. The woman smiles at you and asks you to have a seat, big sister will be with you shortly. While waiting, you notice that something is implanted behind one of your ears.
Suddenly, the woman appears next to you with a cup of tea in hand. "I made you your favorite tea, Number ********. Or would you rather be called [your name before you woke up]?" The woman says. She introduces herself as big sister. While her expressions seem to be warm and earnest, she feels kind of robotic at times. You wonder if she is actually human or some realistic golem or machination.
You are briefed about your temporary time at the facility. You get a spacious apartment, access to various entertainment rooms and a shopping center that seems to have a handful of oddballs running shops and oddly Big Sister encorporates various roles at the facility. Sometimes she is a secretary, sometimes she is a café owner, sometimes she is an alternative girl at the cashier of a music store, sometimes she is even a security guard. It is a little odd, maybe even a bit unsettling.
You wonder if this is some kind of prison or something. The fact your were referred to by a number, makes things more suspicious. You happen to come across the janitor who explains that it is in fact a prison to which you are unsure why you are even here. Janitor explains that while it may be nice to go back, life on the "outside" is decent "as long as you don't grow too close to Big Sister as she isn't all what she seems" and that her job is to make you feel comfortable, ensure your safety and prevent you from leaving. People who are comfortable, don't want to leave.
From then on begins your adventure in this massive facility.
Additional info:
1. Yes, magic works in the facility. Though big sister asks you to refrain from using it outside of your apartment and the entertainment rooms. Acceptable outside of them would only be illumination magic for dark spaces.
2. Entertainment rooms can feature entire alternative worlds such as a medieval fantasy world were you are a hero to fight demons or a "modern" arcanepunk city where you can be anything. When you die you reawaken at a safe point (such as an inn or at the entrance of the entertainment room.
3. The facility seems awfully empty, yet there are still a handful of people who work at places in the facility. They all don't use actual names but use names referring to their job or something about them such as "Alchemist" or "Dark elf girl". Rarely do they ever use family roles as names. Only "Big Sister" officially uses a family role as a name. Janitor is however sometimes nicknamed "uncle" due to his older, gruff yet benevolent appearance and personality.
4. Multiple races/species exist, but are mostly limited to humans, elves (wood, high and dark), dwarves, goblins, hobbits and beastfolk (mainly wolf/dog, fox, lizard and cat).
Setting:
Much about the outside world isn't known. There seem to be a city outside beyond the walls when you look outside. But you aren't supposed to leave. The people who work normal jobs in the facility don't recommend it and big sister seems to get a miniature panic attack everytime you wander to close to the wall outside and vehemently insists that you are safer and have it better within the facility.
The facility itself, despite being a prison of sorts, doesn't look like a prison. It seems more like a modern city in a building kind of thing with hundreds if not thousands of apartments along it's halls, most of which are vacant. There is a shopping mall type of area where you might be able to meet most of the people you may be able to trust. Though big sister seems to be in disguise everywhere trying to interact with you and keep you comfortable. There is a wing of the building with "entertainment rooms" ranging from rooms with sports fields, rooms with arcades to rooms that feature an entire world you could basically live in while your pod is being fixed. You just don't know with what complex spacial magic who or what made these places. There is a wing that is full of stasis pods with "prisoners" in them. And the last known wing is pretty vacant, but there are panicked messages scribbled all over the walls such as "Don't trust big sister.", "No escape." and "The demon king is alive." Though you assume the last one is from someone who spent too much time in an entertainment room. In the vacant wing, you may come across a broken soul who rambles gibberish or pleads with you to not go back.
Entertainment rooms:
-Room 1: A tiny movie theater with a popcorn machine, a counter where Big Sister magically appears in movie theater staff clothing. Popcorn and drinking water are free. You can buy extras with money you either earned in the world in the pod or in one of the entertainment room worlds.
-Room 2: An arcade with various games. Food and drinks are provided by vending machines. Big Sister rarely comes here. However freebies are tiny sandwiches on a platter that magically refill and a water fountain.
-Room 3: A sports complex with various sports fields and stuff, complete with artificial sky. Food and drinks are rather on the healthy side here. The salad bar and sports drinks are for free. Big Sister can offer to be a referee or be an opponent. If you play against Big Sister, you just need to let how know the difficulty you need her to play at.
-Room 4: The medieval fantasy world of Aeveron, complete with nine kingdoms and life-like NPCs. This place is so baffling, you wonder if a god or a great sage created the facility. Though it is interesting that Big Sister appears dressed like a goddess or saint during character creation for this world and give you a tutorial. Despite Aeveron being more of a simulation, at least you think it may be. The food and drinks here are real. Pain is real too, though Big Sister says the pain levels in Aeveron are lower than in the real world. In Room 4, if you die, you are instantly revived at an inn or at the entrance to the room.
-Room 5: A modern action world. Not knowing the world beyond the walls, you expect the outside world to be similar to this or at least somewhat. What you do in this world is your choice. You can live a quiet life as a salaryman with a boring apartment or live as a police officer or a psychotic crimelord. But don't forget, actions have consequences. Here, while you are revived after death, if you die too many times within a specific amount of time, you have to start over. Big Sister will occasionally pop in to see how you are doing.
-Room 6: "The camping room". Room 6 is a smaller world where the main feature is a summer camp surrounded by a forest with lakes and rivers going through it. This is one of Big Sister's most favorite spots as she can play the counselor. Also an odd feature is that during the "school's out" summer camp event, all participants except for Big Sister revert to teenagers. Big Sister also looks younger, but she still look like 18 or 19.
-Room 7: A variety room. You ask Big Sister for a program or theme and she will make the room so. Though when the room is supposed to be vacant, you sometimes hear Big Sister's voice from inside, yet the door won't open. Pushing on it too hard will attract Big Sister's attention.
Technology:
While it is possible that you have been in the pod for decades or even a hundred years or more, unless you have been in the pod for a very long time or have forgotten who you really are, you should be aware of the technology.
The technology of this work is fantasy futuristic. People can have manatech mods on their body ranging from eye implants to hidden weapons. There are also androids but they are referred to as [species]-like golems. Wireless communication or even long distance communication between people who have communication implants exist. However in the facility any inbound and outbound connections are jammed and anyone who may have had a hidden weapon, has had them removed when they came to the facility. The facility allows implants as long as they arent for combat purposes or hacking.
Outside in the city, it is unknown how much technology advancement there is. But anyone who can get a glimpse over the wall can see manacrystal powered motor vehicles and big building-side screens.
The people outside of the pods assume big sister may be enhanced in many ways or may be a golem altogther. Though she seems to self-aware for a golem. You assume that if she is a golem, she must be some rogue AI or something.
Magic types:
-Elemental [Water/Ice, Air, Fire, Earth/Plant]
-Healing/Light Magic
-Dark magic
-Summoning
-Illusion
-Combat enhancement magic
-Abyssal magic
-Necromancy
-Druid magic (transform into animals)
