Peppermint Patty

Patty of Peppermint
The night is very old by now... A celebration had been held hours before in the Gamma base as a yearly tradition- the anniversary of the squad's creation. But now, it is late... 12:56, to be exact. Everyone by now has fallen into a peaceful slumber... Well, aside from a few night-owls having some time to themselves. The lower-ranks are sleeping on the higher floors, while the higher-ranking ones have their rooms deeper down underground. Someone can be heard making themselves a glass of water in the kitchen, but other than that, the whole base is relatively quiet...

The night was still, and the only sound could be heard was the occasional, faint sound of leaves overhead. A Murkrow flew from branch to branch, cooing it's wonderful song. However, though silently, the Murkrow was not the only thing moving.

A small Espeon padded softly through the darkness of Cherryblossom Forest, her bright purple/ blue eyes glowing dimly. This Espeon was no normal Pokemon however, this Espeon's paws looked like they were covering in ice blue frost, and the split tail hosted the home of a bright orange and pink Sun Ribbon, that dazzled as brilliantly as the sun when hit with even the faintest ray of moonlight.

Ina, the Espeon's name, smiled as she found her desitination- the Gamma Squad Headquarters. She thought she had heard of good Pokemon there, and possibly they could lend her some items for her newest adventure. As she reached the entrance, the Espeon sat down and levitated a stick up to the door, and knocked. She set the stick down and looked up at they clear sky. Ina shifted the bag on her shoulder and flicked her tail back and forth as she gazed upwards. "Wow...the sky is so pretty. I wonder... is this the place I've been looking for?" The Espeon murmured as she waited for a response from the other side of the door.

Riliac slithered through the forest as fast as his snakelike body could take him- yet still taking care not to make any noise, lest he be spotted. He wasn't acting in his usual, cool-headed demeanor- he was worried out of his mind, sweating all over. Finally stopping to take a break once he was sure nobody would find him, he slithered up a tree, coiling around a branch. Sighing, he wiped the sweat from his forehead, then flicked a leaf that had gotten caught in his fashionable pendant. Slowly beginning to rest his eyes, he suddenly heard a loud knocking noise- immediately, he got down from the tree and began trying to escape... Whatever it was. Once he felt a bit safer, he looked around the tree, only to see the source of the noise. What met his eyes was the back of a pink... Cat... Thing. It seems as if it didn't know anyone was around... Then, suddenly, a thought crossed his mind.

All adult Pokemon in the area that weren't criminals received a gate key. This meant that she might be his only way out of this predicament... Slowly, begrudgingly, he made a decision- and began to slither quietly in her direction. Once not too far around her, he shot out two of his vines and began to wrap the pink cat up- one vine covering her mouth. Ready for her to begin struggling, he tightened as much as he could- yet making sure not to hurt her in any way. He began to make his way through the forest, holding her in the air slightly, making sure not to drag her. Finally, after twenty, struggling minutes, he arrived at it- the gate. Looking at the large, translucent, almost liquid-like barrier, he loosened his grip on her, and removed the vine off her mouth, gently placing her on the ground. Then, opening his mouth, a hisslike voice, tinged with exasperation and worry met her ear.

"D-do you have a gate key? Please? I really need it... Please..."

Ina felt comfortable in the warm, late night air for quite a bit of time. She was very content with her thoughts and position, she just needed someone to opened the gosh darn door. Though, Ina was not one of impatience, so the Espeon sat there in serene silence, quietly breathing in the warm night air, and exhaling it out. Her ice blue tipped tail flicked back and forth in habit, showing her relaxation and patient outlook.

The Espeon's ears twitched and her tail stopped flicking abruptly as she sensed a change in the air currents. 'Something's not right here...' Ina thought, allowing her purple gaze to sweep around the landscape in an attempt to pinpoint the lurking threat she felt hovering in the air. A bright red glow emanated from her forehead as she fixed her bag on her shoulder and tried once again to spot the threat she felt. When there wasn't anything in sight, at least that she could see, the Espeon tentatively turned back around, facing the door. Her face was furrowed in worry, but somehow she knew that she would be able to face any threat head on- she had, after all, won the fight to save her dream.

It happened so quickly that Ina couldn't even comprehend anything in her mind but panic when it happened. Two, thin, fast moving objects swirled its way around her mouth and lifted her up above the ground, muffling her panicked cries of fear. The Espeon felt the grip tighten, but they almost seemed to be holding back somehow, as if their user was being quite cautious in the way of making sure she didn't get hurt. A million thoughts raced through her head. How would she get out of this? Suddenly a brilliant idea formed, to calm herself down and simply remove the tendrils with her levitation. However, some tiny, ludicrous voice in the back of her mind told her to do otherwise, and that she did. The Espeon went limp, quit her violent struggles, and allowed her weight to be carried away. Maybe... Maybe it was the right idea. She had no idea as to where she was being dragged off to, nor did she have the calmness to identify her kidnapper, but Ina just kind of... Uncharacteristically...gave up.

It must have been many minutes, but it felt like over an hour to the small, pink, psychic cat. The very tips of her tail brushed against the ground slightly in her suspended state, but she was being set down. Ina took a deep breath as both tendrils undone their grip, preparing herself to launch an attack if necessary. The Espeon put a displeased look on her face as she opened her eyes from the serene moment, but no ferocious dark type had stolen her away in the night. Instead a Serperior was in front of her, somewhat intimidating, but overall, not overly frightening. She opened her mouth to demand where she was and why he had done what he did, but the Serperior beat her to the right to speak.

"
D-do you have a gate key? Please? I really need it... Please..."

Ina was moderate taken aback by the pure... Need in the voice she heard. "I...umm. Well, I do... But what for?" She asked in confusion, her eyes glowing bright blue. The Espeon had forced her bag shut, and was keeping it shut with her psychic abilities. Ina wanted to trust this Pokemon, but then again, she had also ran into a 'needy' Pokemon before and he betrayed her... Immensely.

"I... I... Wait- you're really letting me?.."

He was taken aback by how she had actually said yes to this query- perhaps she wasn't from around here?.. A voice in the back of his head told him just how much of an idiot he was for going through with a plan he had almost guaranteed would not work- but out of dumb, sheer luck, it seemed she was going to help, after all. Oh well, if she was really being this kind, he might as well give her an explanation- to repay her for being so rude.

"W-well... Y'see... Heh... Erhm..." He twiddled the fingers on his short arms together nervously, still in a bit of shock. "I'm... I'm tryin' to escape the police... You see... When I was little, I hatched alone... But someone eventually took me in... And that just so happened to be a member of a local notorious thief gang... So, I kinda... Grew up with them... But that isn't important. They betrayed me- they heard that the police were scheduling to raid our hideout, seeing as the location had been leaked from a rat within our group... They didn't tell me, though. They were gonna leave me to be found. They reckoned that if they caught one member, the police would lax up, making it easier for the rest of 'em. But the one member of the group that truly loved me- the one that took me in as a kid- told me the plan in private- I only just escaped... The police are still looking for me! I need to leave!"

The Espeon listened to the Serperior's story before narrowing her eyes in confusion. "So you're asking me to help you escape from law enforcement?" Ina asked, repeating what she understood. "I know it technically isn't your fault, but considering that I was once part of a law enforcement group', she paused. "Of sorts, I'm not sure that I can live with myself after helping you in a stunt like that." Ina finished, her still bright, glowing eyes completely focused. Slow she let out the breath she unconsciously was holding, and relaxed, and when she opened her eyes again, they were a deep purple, as she released her psychic grip on her bag. "I've decided that I'll help you, but I'm biased. Don't ask why. But, don't each Key have an identity attached to them? I could understand that if I were a Servine that possibly you could pass through, claiming that you hadn't evolved when getting your key, but I'm certain you couldn't dream of passing as an Espeon."

Ina sat down, flicking her tail back and forth. The bright, pink and orange Sun ribbon tied around her tail flashing in the dim light. Most would think to remove such a flashy item in such a secretive setting, but she refused to take it off, it held too many memories, too much sentimental value behind that ribbon. The Espeon shrugged as she thought over her decision, finally agreeing with herself that she never planned to go within the city, so loosing the key wouldn't be a catastrophe. Once upon a time, Ina had wished to go within the city walls, but looking back, she realized that other than a place to stay and to restock, the city wasn't very important to her. Ina looked forward, but her eyes began to glow light blue again, and the buckle to her bag opened up, and her gate key levitated towards the Serperior.

"Well... Er... I guess... I'm kinda panicked at the moment... But I don't even know how the gate works... I've never left, myself... But, I mean, it's worth a shot, right? You can have the key right back after I leave, and I swear, I'll never step foot... Er... Well, you won't see nor hear from me again!"

And with this, he took the key upon himself. Holding it up, he stuck it right in the wall- slowly, it began to change into a bright pink color. He turned around to the... Cat... And handed the key back, nodding to her.

"A million thanks to you, ma'am. I'll never forget this!.."

He slowly made his way right in front of the gate. Looking it up and down, at the sides, and whatnot, he couldn't see any sign of it not working... Surely it wasn't that sophisticated. He closed his eyes and made his way through-

For a few moments, he was all the way through it. He opened his eyes again, smiled brightly, and shivered in the snow from the valley. But just when he made to be on his way... The gooey substance of the gate morphed into what seemed to be an arm. A booming, emotionless voice announced "Access denied. Card key used is not correct." Then, with a flash, it grabbed his body, holding it with particular ease, then threw his body back into the forest. His limp body flew past the cat and he hit a large boulder a ways back headfirst- a sickening cracking sound was made upon impact.

There he lay, unconscious, on the ground. His head was bleeding profusely all over the ground. Suddenly, a voice was heard coming from the forest- getting closer to the cat. Then, finally, the voice's possessor came into view- it was a relatively tall, yellow figure- an Ampharos. On his torso, a red sash was lazily wrapped around him, with a golden "Gamma Squad" badge attached, gleaming in the light of the full moon. He skidded to a halt in front of the cat and caught his breath, leaning on a tree. He seemed not to see the large snake's body, as it was father away in a different direction. Then, finally, he looked up at her. He had rectangular spectacles on- and behind them were eyes with looks of pure confusion.

"Were... Were you the one knocking at the... Huff... Door?.. And what... What was that racket?! First, the gate was speaking- trust me, I recognize the voice- and then, there was that loud 'boom'! What were you thinking, going about doing all that?!"

Ina smiled a little bit as the Serperior accepted her key, profusely explaining that he didn't know how it works, only that he's thankful. The Espeon stood up, shook her fur out and stood up. She noses her way through her bag, sighing as she found the item she was looking for. A small, yellow and navy egg, surrounded by Ina's light blue aura, floated out of the bag- barely reflected in Ina's bright blue eyes. With a good glance at the tiny life form, she gently placed her treasure back into her bag. I the Espeon glanced back to see the Serperior attempting to enter the city, and she sighed in relief; at least he wouldn't think that she's a mother- which she's not. Ina saved the egg from a rabid group of Heatmor back in Turmoil Cave- a place in the region she hails from. Her client was a Chingling looking for her mother, and Ina did eventually complete the request without any major difficulties, but the egg's mother was nowhere to be found. That being said, Ina housed the egg and had carried it with her on every adventure- most at least. The ones that were overly dangerous; she would leave the egg in either her Clients care or hide the egg in her makeshift home.

Suddenly she heard something.

Acess Denied. Card Key Used is not Correct.

Followed by the shooting figure of a Serperior and a sickening crack. Wide eyed, Ina spun around- her stomach flipping over as she viewed the scene. "Oh my goodness! Are you ok?" She asked the question, despite knowing the answer. In a previous life, the Espeon must have been a Chansey, because instantly she knew that he was unconscious and the bleeding wouldn't stop. A large yellow figure stepped into view, and as Ina identified him, an Ampharos. He seeming out of breath, spurting things about how much noise she was making, yet he seemed not to large Serperior only a few meters away. "Shhh, I don't think you understand. I apologize for making the racket, but you need to help me." In a flash of pink, Ina bounded over to the Serperior, immediately beginning to clean the wound and place herbs on it.

@FelixWrightwind (should we wait for Umbreon? It may be considered a one on one of we continue to go on. Just an idea.)

The dazed, frazzled Ampharos' gaze followed the Espeon until she reached the bleeding body. He yelped after seeing what everything was, then ran to help her.

"Jeez, what happened?! He's a bloody mess!.. This is crazy, everything goes down while I'm gone and- wait... Wait, wait, wait..."

He suddenly stopped treating the large snake- now, he was holding the golden locket around the snake's neck in his hand...

"... I... I know who this snake is... He's been giving us hell for years... Espeon, ma'am? Please, come with me. Back to headquarters, of course... And this body... We'll need to bring him back, too. Can't let him die... Before getting the bounty on him, alright?"

@Pipfrost (Nah, he doesn't seem interested.)

The Ampharos's voice downed into the background as Ina swiftly treated the Serperior. The Espeon was so concentrated that it took her many moments after the electric type stopped helping her to notice his hesitation. Ina hesitated to continue to heal him, but did so in telekinesis, splitting her attention momentarily between healing and listening. He suddenly began to speak of how he knows the Serperior, and something about the Regal Pokemon causing them lots of trouble. "Excuse me?" She said, startled. "This, kind, merciful, needy Serperior has ever caused someone harm?" Ina stared at the Ampharos, reliving the past few minutes. However, her words fell upon deaf ears, as the Espeon realized that she had whispered the phrase, and the electric type had continued talking. Somewhat guiltily, Ina hung her head. She was so biased about the Snivy line.

Espeon, ma'am? Please, come with me. Back to headquarters, of course... And this body... We'll need to bring him back, too. Can't let him die... Before getting the bounty on him, alright?"

"Bounty?" She repeated, suddenly vary wary and alert. The Espeon glanced down at her work. By this point the wound looked at least somewhat better, but she couldn't tell if it would get worse or if it would stop. It was all in someone else's hands. Ina slathered one last batch of medicated leaves- the substance she had used to wrap the head wound. "W-what has he done? I tried to help him get into the city, but he mentioned be framed of sorts..." Ina protested, shooting a pitiful and somewhat betrayed look at the Serperior, unsure of what to feel. "I'll follow you." She decided finally, thinking that her egg needs to be taken care of for the night, and she could help the Serperior later need be. Unfourtunatly, Ina prioritized her tiny life form in this situation.

@FelixWrightwind

"Thank you very much... And yes, it may come as a surprise to you, but I did say bounty. You see, he's one of the members of the city's best thieves. You won't believe how much he and the crew he's a part of has stolen. And he hasn't been framed or anything like that- trust me, we have more than plenty of evidence... But, anywho, he's got a whooooole lotta money on his capture. Maybe not as much of that of the rest of the crew he works with, but... It's enough to get you through a couple of weeks without a job, alright. When we get him back to headquarters, we're gonna treat him, and then lock him up. Unless, of course, he has a lot of great information for us... But that'd be a miracle."

"I digress. I will check the place that he will be locked up before anyone is within those walls." Ina insisted, her voice full of a new authority. "If you do not trust my judgement... Well... Please do note that I'm fairly popular in other places." She warned, unconsciously tensing up as if the Ampharos would attack her. The Espeon looked up at the electric the with her demanding purple eyes, unwilling to let the Serperior go anywhere without her say-so.

The Espeon quickly thought of reasons why she should be respected. 'I've saved so many Pokemon, and caught so many criminals, but does that make me a Pokemon to be respected? Anyone could help out a friend, I just happen to do it as a job.' Ina sat down, her eyes bright blue again as she levitated a pile of leaves below the Sererior's head, hoping to make him more comfortable. He may be a criminal, yes, but he's an injured Pokemon, and Ina believed that nobody deserved to suffer.

@FelixWrightwind (sorry for the shorter post, it's late and I drew a blank about what to elaborate on. xD )

The Ampharos was caught off-guard a bit by this new approach from the newcomer- why'd Pokemon have to be like this when he had stuff to do elsewhere?.. Like sleep in bed? Deciding that this was doing nothing but wasting time, he decided to try and mimic her approach- then, maybe, she'd step down a bit. He puffed out his chest a bit, gleaming his badge once again, before speaking.

"Ma'am, please, as long as he cooperates, nobody's going to get hurt. Besides, if he stays here, he'll die most likely- we have a proper medical ward in our headquarters. So, once again... If you could help me with him, that'd be great."
