Difference between a Content Count and a Community Rep.

Your friend has been misinformed. You can enable your status updates in your settings (go to edit profile while you are viewing your profile). A content count is a number of posts which you have made on the site. Your posts will not count towards your total in certain forums, such as the private workshop and the forum games. Community rep is the amount of 'likes' that you receive. You can like a post by clicking the 'like' button on the bottom right.
