Dice Roleplay?

Hello. Me again. My threads are probably going to be merged and Im very sorry for flooding!!!

But what does Dice roleplay means??

A Dice Roleplay is one that introduces a random element into the gameplay based on the roll of a dice of a certain number of sides (which can vary from a simple toss of a coin, essentially a two-sided die, to a percentile system, a 100-sided die). These sorts of games can tend to have an underlying mechanic describing the actions the player's character and how the dice rolls affect those actions. Most, but not all, roleplay games that you can buy employ a dice-based system to determine a character's ability to achieve a certain outcome.

For instance, in the White Wolf system, a character's ability to perform any action is determined by the roll of one or more ten-sided dice (most often referred to as D10s). In Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and other 'D20 System' games, the 20-sided die is the primary dice roll. Other systems use a percentage system (i.e. your character has a 60% chance of succeeding in this task so you need to roll a 60 or less on a 100-sided die).

Some systems use a variety of dice rolls to emulate different probabilities or things like damage rolls for different weapons (i.e. a greatsword would do far more damage than a dagger and thus a dice with more sides or a number of dice are rolled to represent that).

In summary, dice roleplays have a usually hard and fast system in place with a random element represented by the roll of a number of dice, the results of which, positive or negative, the players and the person running the game abide by. This differs from more collaborative RPs where players determine the outcome of an action through discussion ("Eddie is gonna jump across the 10-foot gap between buildings. He's pretty athletic so he should be able to make it easily enough." "But he's been running hard for about fifteen minutes trying to keep up with Alice, he's gonna be aching after the run up to the fifteenth floor, it's gonna be a bit more difficult unless he stops to catch his breath." "Okay, so he can make the jump, but he'll land and have to stop and catch his breath." "Okay, I can get behind that.")
