Dice and Gun Stuff

I pretty much want to get a dice-oriented way [D20] of determining the effects of getting shot, as well as the accuracy of shooting. Simplified as much as possible, but hopefully realistic. I'm not much of a gun person in real life, but I have done some research on stuff like this, for whatever that's worth.

What I might actually recommend is something similar to Warhammer 40k's system of gun mechanics.

Basically, it works something like this. You make your roll (d100) to hit, and the tens place correlates to a chart, which tells you where the shot hits. Body parts have health, and at certain intervals, things happen to the part. Generally, there's 30 wounds on each body part's table. Cross each threshold, and something new and fun (read: horrifying) happens. Cross one threshold on your arm and you might not be able to aim as well or use it as well as you used to. Cross another and it's crippled. Another and it's going to need to be amputated.

That's overly simplified, but it's the gist of the mechanics behind it. I can dig out my books and give you the specifics if you're interested at all.

Use GURPs if you want super detailed gun and gun injury stuff there's probably a bunch of optional rules to use do that.

Inquisitor and Ixacise both make good points. Wouldn't bother with d20 but there is a d20 modern book out there somewhere that isn't completely awful.
