In the modern era, also known as the Alteration era, is where the world resides. Technology has conquered the earth, changing it. Some say it's innovation, but others find themselves bored with the updated world. They prefer to enter an entirely different world---a universe that defies the impossible itself. It goes by many names, but is known the best as the Dream World. The Dream World was created by children. Only children can dream, and an even smaller few can enter the Dream World. These few are known and revered as the Envisage. What makes you an Envisage is imagination, a trait deemed futile in the Alteration Era. Even so, what happens when you, an Envisage among others, can't get out? The Dream Realm is distorted into a nightmare, and your lives are at stake as you face your worst fears. If you die, you die in real life. If you win, congratulations. You and all the others will awake, knowing they had conquered their fears.
When you enter, you are given a choice. There are lists of elements/powers that you can obtain. You choose one, and the element becomes a part of you. Based on your element, you get a companion that helps you along the way. Your appearance tends to change slightly to suit your element. They all have their strengths and weaknesses though, which is why you band together.
The Dream Realm slowly began filling with fear, changing it into the Nightmare Realm. The fear is measured by a scale: Annoyance being the easiest to beat, while Phobias are the most powerful. Phobias reside in the form of bosses. For example, if you are claustrophobic, the boss can find a way to seemingly close the walls in on the one who has the phobia. Sometimes it takes more than brute strength to defeat fear.
