Love the title post c;

Shall we finally get this thing started (I can't wait any longer, I'm too excited ;3;)?

I'll be using my two characters, Melanite and Citrine.

((I'll start us off. I'll be using Obsidian and Topaz.))

► Pink Obsidian

Obsidian perched herself upon a rocky cliff-side and breathed in the familiar scents of charcoal and burning rubber. Over time, these unpleasant scents had become familiar to her, and this desolate wasteland had become her home. However, that didn't exactly mean she enjoyed living there. It was all she knew, so she appreciated it, but at time she had always imagined life could be better. She dreamed of homeworld, and how one day she may be permitted to go there. She dreamed of being part of something bigger than herself. An army perhaps, although deep down she knew she wasn't fit to be a fighter. She simply desired something to give purpose to her meaningless existence. The kindergarten always had a way of making you feel worthless. Constantly surrounded by cries of misery, and unbearable solitude, it was enough to make any gem go mad. All except her. She had been accustomed to it after all. Born and raised into a land of misery, and as unpleasant as it sounded, it was all she knew.

► Topaz

Topaz took a deep breath and prepared herself for another day of aimless destruction and unending combat. As unfortunate as that sounded, it was the everyday duty of a fighter in homeworld's army. Nobody ever spoke of it that way of course. Others tried to cover it up, claiming that the war was only temporary, and that the adversaries would be crushed in due time. However, it had been years, and the war still had no end in sight. Topaz was beginning to have doubts. In fact, they were more than just doubts, they were full blown regrets. Regrets for ever joining the army, and regrets for ever supporting such a cause. She had no reason to fight for homeworld. Nobody did. What they were doing was awful, and every single gem was aware of it. Yet here she stood. Waiting to be given orders from a general she didn't believe in.

War. Fighting. Conquering. Being a part of the army was all Melanite knew. It's what she grew into ever since being a young gem. Being a soldier was her life, and she was proud of it. The crystal gems were stupid to defy Homeworld, and it was their time to pay. That's what she believed. Or, rather, that's what she was forced to believe. Still, she enjoyed combat. She was ready to face the crystal gems and their supporters. It was her duty and destiny to do so. Her orders were to not hold back and give her life for Homeworld. She had been fighting for several years this way, but her passion didn't run out. She was a soldier, ready to do anything to win the war, even if not righteous. Melanite had learned to not let that stop her on the battlefield, though the thought of doing too much wrong weakened her everyday, even though she denied it. She was a fighter, not a baby. Not everyone could be a saved. With that in mind, she joined her fellow fighters and continued killing for Homeworld.

Citrine;;

Citrine sighed. She was always being manipulated by the higher-ups, but she was too afraid to say anything about it. They took that weakness of hers and constantly used it to get her to monitor the kindergarten. She hated the job, no less. Creating new gems for Homeworld to manipulate with her was a terrible thought. Not to mention the gem shard fusions. Still, no matter how much she longed for home far away from the kindergarten, she was stuck monitoring it along with a few others. At least she wasn't completely alone when it came to how she felt, but she still didn't always like to talk to the other gems. Looking around, Citrine spotted Obsidian. She was feeling nicer today, so she decided to go over to her. "Feeling any better today? It still seems like the war will be going on for a while, and so will this operation, but... we just have to keep hoping, right?"

► Pink Obsidian

Startled, Obsidian jumped to her feet and spun around to face a potential adversary. She wasn't used to visitors, as she often climbed high above the kindergarten to avoid other gems. The thought of someone bothering to reach her led her to believe that her visitor didn't have good intentions. Nonetheless, she supposed it would be best to make conversation.

"Of course I'm not feeling better, and who cares about the war? It's hopeless!" She hadn't meant for it to come out that way, but a life living among rocks and debris had left her with a pretty bad attitude. Plus, any chance to spite home world was a chance she would take.

"I guess you're meant to be another one of home world's disposable pawns, right? They'll throw you out the second the war ends." There it was again. Her unnecessarily harsh tone and brutal honesty. She wanted to get under the other gem's skin. Maybe for a second she could make them feel just as bad as she did. Of course she was aware that such thinking was wrong, but after all home world had done to her and the other artificial gems, she figured her rage was justified.

Breathing out a sigh, she allowed herself to sink down against a rock until she was sitting to face the edge of the cliff. "I guess they're just going to throw me out too, huh?" The words came out without thinking, but she didn't bother to take them back. She was tired of suppressing all the emotions that came along with her miserable life. She figured she might as well vent while another gem was there to listen.

► Topaz

Scanning her surroundings, she noticed that the army was already splitting into legions and preparing to warp onto the battle field. 'Another day another battle,' she thought as she joined her comrades marching onto the warp-pad. Shutting her eyes, she activated her gem and allowed herself to flow through the warp stream onto Earth. Typically, warp travel only lasted for a few moments, so she wasn't surprised when she opened her eyes and immediately found herself standing in the middle of the kindergarten. It certainly wasn't what she expected for a battle field, but she was prepared to adapt. After all, that was what soldiers were good at. Suppressing every emotion to mindlessly charge into battle. Prepared for anything.

"Move out! Seek and destroy every crystal gem in sight! Don't hold back!" The battle cry shook Topaz from her thoughts as she immediately shifted into kill-mode. Her gem glowed briefly before spawning a pair of brass knuckles as her weapon of choice. Clenching her fist, she left behind all feelings of regret and uncertainty and let out a battle cry loud enough to shake the entire earth. And as her fist collided directly with the gem of her first victim, she barely felt an ounce of guilt.

Melanite;;

Taking out her spear, she pierced every enemy she could find. She was very powerful and knew how to take the enemy down. Melanite wasn't very tactical, but when on the battlefield she knew how to win. She always won, after all. Didn't that mean she was doing it right?

The enemy was poor and weak, anyway. The only real opponent was Rose Quartz. All of the other gems were loosely formed and were easy to take out. They didn't have battle strategy and structural formation like Homeworld did. Yet, for some reason, it felt as if Homeworld was losing. How could the better army be losing? Especially with her as one of it's best offenders? However, she didn't have time to think about it. If she didn't have perfect concentration, she'd surely lose. She remembered her early days as a gem 1000 years ago. When she was training to be a soldier, she was constantly distracted and almost always lost. Good thing they taught her how to stay focused and see all options for the opponent to strike. She had perfect stance and balance because of it, and taking her out was almost impossible. But even if she was very strong, her comrades weren't as ready. It made sense since she was higher up in the army. She was a major, after all, and many of the others were far under her in the ranks. However, they way they fought seemed pathetic to her. Almost none of them fought with such determination and force.

"Come on!" She shouted. "Don't hold back, you cowards! Kill the enemy!" She tried her best to light up their spirits, but they all seemed worn down from fighting. There was nothing she could do.

She sighed. "Is anyone of you even trying?" She muttered to herself.

Citrine;;

"Um..." She tried to respond. Obsidian had shocked her. This is why she tended to stay away from other gems. "Ahem." She tried to bring up her courage to reply rationally and strongly. "Just so you know, I know things seem helpless. But we can't give up hope. We got to let the Crystal Gems win. Then this kindergarten will be shut down and we can live how we want to." She looked down, feeling useless and pathetic. She knew she probably wasn't helping. It was hard to defy Homeworld and get away with it. It was even harder to say when the war would end and things would turn back to normal. Honestly, she didn't know much about living how she wanted to. She was fairly young and was born to be used. She didn't even have the confidence to stand up for herself like the Crystal Gems did. However, if Obsidian was trying to hurt her feelings, it wasn't working.

"Look, Obsidian. I'm sorry for bothering you. But if you for a second believe that I didn't know I was being used, you are certainly blind to anyone's feelings. I know Homeworld is making a fool of us and will use anyone for any purpose. I also know what we're doing here is absurd and messed up. But you and I both know it's hard to get away from this madness. If I knew how to slip underneath their radar and spies I would. But you know it's not that easy." She stared straight into her eyes with as much force as she could muster. "If you really want to get away, do it. I won't stop you, but the higher-ups will. Or we can stick together and plot a way to escape little by little in secrecy. We can be enemies, or we can be friends." She moved away her machine she used so she could hold out her hand to Obsidian. "What do you say?"

► Pink Obsidian

Obsidian stared blankly at the hand being held out to her, not knowing how to respond. Then, she found her empty expression turning into a grin as she took the other gem's hand.

"You know, we're totally going to die." She paused briefly, "but I guess that's better than wasting my life here."

She stood up and cracked her knuckles. "Let's show homeworld what we're made of! If we can't win, then let's at least give them a hard time before we go."

► Topaz

As soon as the battle begun, their ranks quickly descended into chaos. In no time at all, Topaz found herself running blindly, separated from her legion, and completely alone. She couldn't seem to even spot her opponents in the distance, although she could hear their battle cries. Somehow, she had gotten lost while running from an explosion. On any other day, she would have immediately charged back into battle to rejoin her comrades, but today was different. She had no motive. Why go back and fight for a cause you didn't even support? There was always the threat of being executed for desertion, but that fate was beginning to sound more and more appealing. It was surely better than her current lifetime of brutal warfare.

Without thinking, Topaz began to walk. She walked past reactors and watched as they implanted more gems in the earth for homeworld's purposes. She walked past broken gem shards, and destroyed shelters built by the artificial gems living there. And lastly, she walked past a few kindergarten gems who hid themselves from the fighting. She could feel their eyes following her wherever she walked. It was unsettling. After what seemed like an eternity of endless wondering, she heard gems talking off in the distance. Could it be her fellow soldiers? If it was then she would have to come up with an excuse for her absence. "I got lost," or "I got caught in the explosion," seemed like pretty good choices. But to her relief, she found that it wasn't homeworld's army. It was a conversation being held above her on a cliffside. She could barely make out either gem's figure, but by the looks of it, they weren't fighters. She figured she had nothing to loose, so she called out to them.

"Hey! Mind if I join you up there?"

((probably going to sit Melanite out next time I post))

Melanite;;

Sounds of war raged on throughout the day. She heard pain and crying, but little of victory. Destruction and desperation was all that was felt during the battle. She couldn't help but start to feel tired and weak from it too, but she tried not to let it show. The Crystal Gems were getting stronger, though, while her team was starting to feel small. Many on both sides had already died, but more on her side had casualties. Same with despair. Her side was giving up much too easily. Eventually, it felt she was the only one left around. However, in her twisted mindset, she felt as if she needed to keep trying. Keep fighting. Keep destroying. She knew of nothing more.

Citrine;;

Citrine couldn't help but smile and chuckle. "That's a risk we're going to have to take. But it'll be worth it in the end, right? Who cares if it costs us. It is so much better than being manipulated all the time." She grabbed her machine and tweaked with the settings. "Okay, let's do this! I have my computer out of monitor mode and I messed with it so they can't spy on us. That's should at least help us plan without them peering over our shoulders all the time. But we still need to be careful. We can still at least try and do what you said, give them a hard time. Shouldn't be too hard." She continued messing with her computer, trying to think of their first plan.

Later, a random gem called up to them. At first it scared her, feeling they sent someone after them. But after looking at her, she seemed to be another worn down soldier from the war. They probably wouldn't have bother sending an army gem to spy on them, right? She figured she'd have to play along at first anyway; give her the benefit of the doubt. "Sure, you can come join us. We're just... monitoring..." She said a little less enthusiastically.

► Pink Obsidian

"You homeworld gems and your weird technology," Obsidian mumbled, watching as Citrine typed a few lines of code into the computer. Admittedly, she had only seen computers a few times in the kindergarten, and they were all either stolen from homeworld or broken. It was surreal to see one actually function.

When she heard the gem call out to her, she was about to give an immediate, "no way," but Citrine beat her to the punch. Sighing, she watched the gem struggle to scale the cliff to reach where they were. "This is going to take a while," she thought to herself.

► Topaz

Topaz frowned at the gem's unenthusiastic tone, but said nothing in response. Instead, she found a foothole in the cliff-side and began to climb. Once she finally reached the top, she briefly analyzed the two gems in front of her. One of them was no doubt from homeworld, the uniform gave it away. And the other was artificial, meaning she had to be native to the kindergarten. A certainly odd pair to see working together.

"Well, I suppose now's an ideal time for introductions," she said, trying to sound enthusiastic, "I'm Topaz, 12th legion officer in homeworld's army. Not a very fun job if you ask me."

Citrine;;

Not paying attention to Obsidian's remark, Citrine continued tinkering with her computer's mechanics. No luck for her yet.

As Topaz climbed the mountain of burnt rocks, Citrine gazed at her carefully. She has an interesting skill to read unspoken language. And something was telling her that Topaz was extremely depressed or weakened by something. Probably the war, she figured. Most soldiers on both sides looked like that these days. Topaz climbed to the top finally, and stared at Citrine. Citrine figured no doubt it was another gem judging her do to her position in Homeworld. She didn't think much of it, though. She had her worse things about herself. The silent treatment and a glare was easy compared to other insults she had gotten from gems angry at her for being used all the time. Luckily, Topaz moved onto other things. When she spoke up and introduced herself, Citrine hesitated, but replied. She had to make sure she didn't seem suspicious to anyone.

"Hello, Topaz... Um, I'm Citrine, I work in securing the Kindergarten. I'm not in the army, but I do a lot of work in the government. I know a lot of the higher-ups, and they said I have the right to report gems that are slacking or are plotting against Homeworld. So I can definitely report you for slacking off while we're in a war. Why aren't you fighting with the other legions?" She asked maybe a little too harshly. She felt it was believable, though. Anything to keep her out of trouble.

► Pink Obsidian

Obsidian turned away from Topaz and mumbled, "It's none of your business," under her breath. She wasn't going to let some beat-up homeworld gem get any information out of her. Luckily, the other gem didn't seem that interested in her, so she was left alone.

She had to admit, Citrine could be intimidating when she wanted to be, and she felt an odd sense of pride watching her "innocent" friend come out of her shell. She figured Citrine needed no help in the argument, so she simply sat back and watched the two gems have at it. It was almost amusing to watch them exchange threats with each other, so she had a small smirk on her face.

► Topaz

Her eyes widened briefly after hearing Citrine's threats, but she was quickly able to recover, and broke into a laugh.

"Bit of an attitude you've got there," she remarked, shaking her head. "If you're working so hard to secure the kindergarten, then tell me why you're lounging around up here? Guess we're both slackers." She laughed again.

"And furthermore," she began to circle the other gem, "my reasons for slacking off are confidential, and I'm certain homeworld would be more hesitant to replace me than they would be to replace you. I am a lieutenant colonel after all."

After she finished speaking, she stopped circling Citrine and sat down with her legs hanging off the edge of the cliff.

"I feel like we got off to a bad start, but just so you know, I don't take threats." She spoke with a slight edge to her voice, almost as if she was issuing a warning, but immediately afterwards her expression softened and she seemed to look a bit more friendly.

Citrine;;

Citrine wasn't sure how to react. She could fake it and report the officer like she normally would have to, or she could play along. Either would be risky. She didn't want an enemy, but she didn't know if she could trust Topaz. She decided to act like as a Homeworld official, she didn't need Topaz as her friend, after all.

"That's no way to talk to me, Topaz. I'm sure the General of the Army would easily get rid of you, since you have that attitude and won't answer me clearly. It's much more easy to replace you disposable soldiers than it is to find gems who know how to work the kindergarten. You see my computer here? It powers most of these machines. Without it--without ME--you can't keep this operation going. And you know these gems are Homeworld's biggest asset. There's nothing you can do to get rid of me that easily. I'm the only one who can keep this going. So obviously, I'm not lounging. How could I even lounge in this gross planet anyway? This kindergarten is disgusting. I'm just here to do a job. And if you want to stay alive, I'd suggest you do yours, too, lieutenant." She stared with conviction, but smiled slyly a bit.

► Topaz

Sighing, Topaz stood and sized up her opponent.

"Do you really think I answer to you?" She asked, summoning her weapon just in case the situation called for it. "I want you to consider our situation. The war is ongoing, and my army? They're dropping like flies. That means homeworld's running out of capable fighters, and I'm one of the best they've got. Do you really think they'd throw me out so easily?" Once again, she found herself circling the other gem. It was a habit when she wanted to be intimidating.

"Now look at you. There are plenty of gems who work machines, and those gems, they aren't being killed off. That makes you replaceable." Satisfied with her argument, Topaz backed off momentarily and stared off the edge of the cliff.

"You're right about this place being a dump, but I don't believe you see it that way." She chuckled to herself and de-spawned her weapon. "You know, I used to be a spy in this army. That means I have excellent hearing. Why do you think I came up here? I heard somebody's planning to leave homeworld, and I'm here to help you."

► Pink Obsidian

Obsidian continued to watch the gems bicker with one another until she realized what Topaz was saying. A homeworld gem had overheard their plans to run away. Immediately, Obsidian stood up and her gem began to glow. However, before she could summon her sword to bury the accusations, Topaz surprised her by offering help.

She didn't know what to say, so she let Citrine do the talking.

Citrine;;

Citrine's confidence was starting to fade. She wasn't the best actress, after all, and she knew Topaz was right. However, she really lost it when she mentioned being a spy. Were they going to be taken away already, without even having any set plans? However, Topaz surprised her. "Help us? Why do you need to do that?" Shortly after, the answer came to Citrine. Topaz was no coward, and she clearly had a resentment of her situation. She must have been tired of fighting this endless war and wanted to do something else, instead. But, she still wanted to make sure they could trust her. "Couldn't you just as easily fake us into being reported? It would be easier for you and would get you promoted too. What can you do to prove that we can trust you with anything?"

► Topaz

"I want to help you because this war is hopeless." There was no longer an edge to her words. She was being genuine, and now she had to focus on gaining the other gem's trust instead of intimidating them. "Like I said, my army is collapsing, and soon enough there's going to be nobody left. I don't want to die fighting for something I don't support."

She momentary avoided the other gem's eyes and stared off the edge of the cliff. Off in the distance, she could spot her ranks retreating back to the same warp pad they originally arrived on. "Why would I abandon my army and let them die just for some spying mission?" She turned to look Citrine in the eye. "Besides, what homeworld is doing here isn't right. You can trust that I'm not going to fight for it."

► Pink Obsidian

Obsidian spoke up. "We've got nothing to loose. We're going to die anyway. Might as well take a chance and see where it takes us. Isn't that right, Citrine?" She slung her arm around Citrine's shoulder and pulled her aside.

"I'll take care of it if things go bad. I've got a sword," she whispered before smiling and pulling away.

(sorry for the late reply)

Citrine;;

Citrine looked at the ground as Topaz explained herself. It made sense what she said, but she used to be a spy. She still could be lying. But after what Obsidian said, she sighed. Unfortunately, she didn't have a way to counteract her depressing comment. It was true too. "Well, I guess it's worth a shot. But that doesn't mean we fully trust you yet, it just means we're giving you a chance to prove that you can help us." She faced Topaz and looked her in the eye. "What do you have in mind? How do you plan to help?"

► Topaz

Topaz breathed a sigh of relief when Citrine finally agreed to be part of her escape plan. The more allies she had, the better, and Citrine was going to be a huge asset to her.

Without allowing a moment for her to change her mind, Topaz eagerly began to explain herself. "Being a part of the military, I have access to every warp pad in homeworld, and I have a group of others who are willing to help us escape. Your friend's right, we're going to be your best bet in getting out of here."

► Pink Obsidian

Obsidian watched the other gem's every move and studied her expressions carefully. She wasn't lying when she said she wanted to help them, Obsidian could tell, but that didn't necessarily make her trustworthy. Nonetheless, Obsidian felt a strange attraction towards this other gem that caused her to believe what she was saying. A curiosity perhaps. She was certainly an interesting persona, and Obsidian was curious to learn about her backstory. "A gem willing to abandon her entire army just to help a few runts escape. How interesting..." Her thoughts began to trail off as she simply stared off the cliff and listened to their conversation. She could think later, now was time to get their plans together and come up with a way to escape.

Citrine;;

"If you say so." She replied, still a little afraid to trust her. "But you don't have access to some of the places I have access to, like deep inside Homeworld government building. There might be some different escape vehicles we both could get our hands on, I'm not sure who could get the better one, to be honest. But that's only if we can convince our bosses to let us use them, and that might make thing suspicious. Our best bet would to find ancient escape pods left at an earlier battle site or something. But something broken and abandoned. That way, we can insure no one will be able to figure out what's going on until it's too late. But even before escape pods, we need an escape location. Probably another old, abandoned place where no one will check to look. Know of anywhere we can stay that will be powerful and relaxing enough to keep our gems in good shape, but still abandoned enough to ensure security?" Citrine pondered where would be a good place. Honestly, she didn't know of any places outside of her home in Homeworld, the government buildings, and the kindergarten. She had never been anywhere else. But she still knew they had to find the perfect place, or they were sure to perish from Homeworld or their gems giving out. They needed a place that felt like home but was still safe, like what the Crystal gems had. Citrine envied the Crystal Gems a lot of times. They had power and love, not to mention sanctuary and a great leader. All she had was her computer and nasty bosses. At least she had made one new friend, if not two.

((long response. I am so sorry.))

► Topaz

"About that," Topaz's voice trailed off, "I can't be seen by anybody in homeworld, or else I'll be killed. I technically deserted the army, and it's a bit late to come up with excuses." She groaned, beginning to pace back and forth. How could she not have realized this before? She was about to groan again, but she figured now was no time to get discouraged.

"Take these," she said, quickly handing Citrine her security cards. "These will give you access to almost any military building in homeworld. If anybody asks, say you were sent to resolve a technical issue or something." It wasn't her ideal plan, but it was better than nothing. Now Citrine could infiltrate any major building in homeworld with ease. Maybe this could work out after all?

"As for our actual plan, I'm going to need you to find someone for me in homeworld. Her name's Emerald, and she's one of the gems planning to escape with us. You can find her in homeworld's main tech office. Just tell her you're part of the plan and she'll go with you. She can explain what to do next." Topaz felt bad dumping all of her plans onto a gem she barely knew, but at the same time, these things had to be done in order for the operation to work. There was no calling things off now, the ball was rolling, and it was too late to stop it. She could feel bad for it later.

"As for a place for us to stay, I already have that covered. There's an abandoned temple my army used as a base during the war, and it's a pretty nice place if you ask me." In reality, the temple she was speaking of was nothing extraordinary, but she figured it would be enough to serve as a temporary base. She could figure out a true home later. She could do everything later.

"And you," she turned her attention to Obsidian, "Neither of us can go back to homeworld as we are now, but I have a plan for that. Trust me." She gave the other gem a wink before reverting back to pacing.

After finishing everything she needed to say, Topaz asked, "Any questions?" But before anyone could reply, she had already leaped off the cliff, dragging Obsidian along with her. Sure, it wasn't the best way to treat others, but she didn't have time for that now. She could apologize once everything was over. Right now, she had to focus on moving forward as quickly as possible.

Citrine;;

Before Citrine could ask details of what and who she was looking for, Topaz left the area and started moving. "Guess I'm on my own now. What does she think I am, anyway? There's no way I can pull this off by myself. Ugh." She took the card and headed for the warp pad. She crossed her fingers hoping things would go better than she was thinking they would.

After finally reaching Homeworld again, she felt slightly more at ease. She knew the ins and outs of her planet, unlike on Earth. Maybe this wouldn't be so hard, after all. She looked around for a military base. She was sure there was one nearby, as they always built them near the warp pads. Luckily, it wasn't too hard to find the base. Citrine nervously approached the entrance. "Here goes." She breathed in and out, trying to relax.

"Hello, I'm a gem from Central Government. I was told to monitor the kindergarten until there was a very large battle there. During the battle, the colonel sent be back to Homeworld, so I wouldn't get in the way and if they win I can still monitor the kindergarten. However, she gave me this security card because I was told to make myself useful and fix up some of the broken machines and send them back."

The guard scanned the card and let Citrine in.

"Phew." She sighed as she went inside to find a few escape pods.

Melanite;;

Things were seeming hopeless. The battle was over and her side had lost. This was the first time it had ended like this, and no doubt she was upset. No matter how much she tried, Melanite's efforts were in vain. She only had a few soldiers left, but they had to retreat back to homeworld for the time being. She was pretty mad at her group, but they were already so weakened, now would not be a good time to yell at them.

She sighed as she brought the soldiers into the base. "We'll need to recover and work twice as hard next time. Don't let me down."

Melanite went over to the infirmary to rest up. On the way, she thought she saw a government gem going into the pod room, but maybe she was seeing things. She laid down on a cot and tried not to think about anything. She soon fell asleep.

((Gahhhh more long responses. I'm sorry. Just so you don't have to read all of it; Obsidian argues with Topaz, Topaz says please, and then they fuse yay.))

►Carnelian

Obsidian didn't have a good feeling about what Topaz was planning, but nonetheless followed her down the hill. She assumed it was important, given how urgent Topaz made the situation out to be, but she could never be sure. Topaz never gave away too much information, which made her a lot harder to trust, but at the same time it also made her more intriguing. Honestly, she had no idea how to feel about the other gem.

"I never got your name," Topaz said once they reached a secluded point next to one of the reactors.

"Obsidian," she replied quickly, but said nothing more.

Topaz nodded and began to reply, "I'm T-"

"Topaz. You already introduced yourself." Obsidian smirked and shook her head. "There's really no need for formalities either. Shouldn't we get to completing your master plan?"

"Right," Topaz said, hiding her embarrassment, "Neither of us can go back to homeworld of course. I'll be wanted by the government soon enough, and you're obviously from kindergarten so-" Obsidian didn't let her finish.

"Gee thanks," she laughed dryly.

"Anyway," Topaz didn't bother arguing, "I was thinking we could fuse so we'd be unrecognizable."

"And nobody's going to notice if we end up with two sets of arms or six eyes? Don't you know how fusion works?"

"If we do it right, then we won't have to worry about that." Topaz growled. She didn't have time for arguments.

"Oh, but how could a garbage gem like me possibly know how to fuse the right way? Forget it." Obsidian snapped. Topaz was too impulsive, and this operation was bound to fail from the beginning. Why should she give them false hope by going along with it?

"It's not like that," Topaz sighed, "Just trust me, okay?"

Seeing the plight in her yes, Obsidian threw up her hands and decided to give in. She figured Topaz would start crying if she said no, and she really didn't need that in her life.

"Fine, fine. I'll do it, but don't come crying to me when we're both arrested." Without another word, Obsidian started them off.

Compared to Topaz, Obsidian was much more elegant, and her dancing wasn't nearly as forced. However, Topaz was soon able to synchronize their movements, and the fusion was successful. In a flash of light, they joined together to become something greater than themselves. An experience like no other. Carnelian.

Citrine;;

Still very nervous, Citrine wandered around the facility until she saw a large door open slightly. The sign above the door had faded away, but looking inside it seemed like a start. Citrine slipped into the room, which was filled with cavalry weapons like tanks. "This must be the right place, if I can find the right thing." She slowly searched around, keeping good eye on the door in case someone was to come in and she'd have to hide. Looking around, she saw a small purple pod able to fit three people. "This'll do. Now how do I get it out of here safely..." She wondered, still watching the door.

Melanite;;

Melanite dreamed she was back on the battlefield, this time facing Rose Quartz.

"What am I doing back here? This doesn't make sense!" She screamed. "All I did was close my eyes... What's going on?"

Rose summoned a staff and pointed it at Melanite.

Melanite tried to summon her spear, but couldn't. "Why is my gem not working? What have you done!"

Rose drew magic from the staff and tried to use it on Melanite. All Melanite could do was try to dodge the attacks. "Stop!!! Please, this isn't fair!"

In a second, the scene faded to black. For a moment, it stayed like that, but soon changed. Suddenly she was facing Citrine in the cavalry room. "Who are you?" Citrine couldn't see her or hear her, but could feel her presence. She panicked and fled the room. "Come back!" Melanite screamed, but it was too late.

Melanite woke in a flash. "A-a gem! In the base! She's not one of us. Definitely not in the army! She could be an enemy! I have to go after her!" Melanite got off the cot and ran out the infirmary. She raced down the halls. "Stop!" She yelled when she saw the gem from before. The gem froze, but didn't turn to face her.

"Who are you?" She asked again.

►Carnelian

Carnelian blinked a few times, uncertain how to react to this new physical form. The relationship between the two gems was still developing, so their fusion was weak, but surprisingly balanced. Topaz controlled Obsidian's rage, and Obsidian prevented Topaz's impulsion. Overall, their fusion was balanced enough for them to pass as a regular gem, which was their goal.

However, the fact remained that they were still a weak fusion. The slightest disturbance would be enough to pull them apart. They needed to stay focused. Steadily, Carnelian began to walk towards the warp pad with one goal in mind. "Find my friends, help Citrine, and then run." While the plan seemed relatively simple, it was nearly impossible given their circumstances. How could he trust Citrine to-

Citrine. The memories of their last conversation quickly flooded his mind and his only thought becaame, "How could I have left Citrine on her own?" but that quickly became, "How could you have left her on her own?" Anger built up inside of him as his two components began to argue. It felt like he was being torn from the inside out as the two separate voices raged against one another. It was both uncontrollable, and excruciating. The effects of said argument left him with a severe migraine, but he managed to stay fused throughout the ordeal. He could keep them at bay, at least for now. He had to stay focused.

Doubts raced through his mind as he forced himself onto the warp pad, but he quickly forced them out of his mind in attempt to stay calm. He couldn't risk another argument. Before teleporting himself to homeworld, he spawned a pair of gloves to hide the dual gems he had on each hand. That feature could easily blow his cover, and put the entire operation on halt. In order for this plan to work, he needed to be stealthy, but not suspicious. A tricky balance to accomplish, but a necessary one if he truly wanted to escape from homeworld's tyranny. With those final thoughts in mind, he took a deep breath and teleported himself back to homeworld.

Citrine;;

Think of something quick. Stay relaxed. Gaah this isn't good. Citrine turned around, slowly to face Melanite. She hoped she could fake her way through this, but by the way Melanite looked, she figured it would be hard to convince her. "Hello, Major. Can you not tell we're in a war, here? There's a shortage of everything and everyone. I was called to help out here with technical maintenance just so our soldiers wouldn't be wasting time trying to fix something broken. Not to mention I'm very experienced in the field of this kind of machinery, so I can fix things very fast, which is much better than most soldiers. In fact, most soldiers haven't been trained to do what I do, so I'm a huge asset to you guys! And I don't have anything to do around in the government, so they sent me here. But you still need me. And that's mainly why I was called. I have a security card and a license to prove it." She handed the gem her two cards. Right afterwards, she knew that was a dumb move. Her name was on her license! Now if they found out she was lying, tracking her down would be easy! Too late now, she figured, waiting for the gem to reply.

Melanite;;

Melanite didn't trust the gem, who's name apparently was "Citrine." She knew there were spies everywhere, and this could've just been one of the few that were great at it. But if she played this right, she wouldn't just guarantee Citrine was on their side, but also get something out of it. She just had to gamble and hope Citrine wouldn't be smart enough to see through Melanite's plan and join her legion.

"I see that you are definitely from the government, but I don't think you're telling the truth," She acknowledged, "I mean, why would you panic and run out of the room you're supposed to be in if you actually weren't supposed to be there? You're trying to steal from the army, aren't you? Well, you won't get away with that. I guess we'll just have to execute you, there's no point in trusting a gem like yourself, Citrine. Let me just find the general around here... In the meantime," She summoned some handcuffs and wrapped them around Citrine's wrists. "You better stay in a cell." Melanite pushed her into the jail and let the guards deal with her.
She backed away out of the jail and started pacing in the hall.

"Okay, I'll go back in there and tell her she's been recruited... and she'll have to join, because she has no choice. But I can tell she's no fighter, she might just way us down even more... Hm... maybe I could get some se out of her? She seems like she could help with strategic battle plans. It could help to have her keep our transportation machines in tact too... All right, I just have to convince her now. Shouldn't be hard."

Melanite went back into the jail and came over to her cell. "Good news! If you join my army, you'll be spared. The general has made note of your skills and decided to let you live if you help me. We'll have you transferred over from your previous job but you won't be fighting, because you clearly aren't fit for that yet. But this is our only option, so I suggest you take it. What do you say?"

►Carnelian

Carnelian spawned in front of a large building which he assumed by the looks of it to be homeworld's military base. While his original plans were to simply gather up his friends and leave, he now had Citrine to worry about, which made things a lot more complicated. He doubted she had much time before the guards realized her true intentions and imprisoned her, so he had to make quick use of his time. However, it wasn't like he could just stroll into the highest security base in homeworld. At least, not without proper identification or a good set of excuses, that is. There was also the option of fighting his way in there and taking out the guards, but it wouldn't be long before he was outnumbered and captured. He needed a plan, a good plan, but nothing he though of seemed to work. He could only hope that Citrine would be fine on her own, at least for the time being.
