Shadowborn Omen
A White Wolf
The name of all of the locations in the opener are the names of real mythological places from different religions. The locations in the role play are not these places, I just used the names. They aren't supposed to be anything like the places, so if you're a religion fanatic, don't get mad at me for the way I explain the places. They're not the same place. AND! I might add that nothing in this is an actual reference to any religion, this is all original. I use names like Angels, Demons, Archangels, and so on because it just makes it sound more badass.
Another note, this role play is set in medieval times (like Ranger's Apprentice if you've read those books, they're the closest to the time frame this role play is in), and the "legend" down below is even further before that. The players aren't going to be the Angels or the Demons, they're going to be the Wardens and the Marauders. Thank you.
You walk into the old wooden structure, the odor of ale flooding your nose, your ears buzz with excitement as the jongleur plays his lute. You sit down at a table across from an older looking man. You order yourself a good meal, and some ale, and begin to relax from your long day's journey. After a while, you and the older man managed to get into a conversation. You were talking about recent events known throughout the kingdom, a large group of people running around with the name "The Marauders" pillaging villages and burning them, and their inhabitants, to the ground. The Marauders had been striking fear in villagers hearts for many months, and not a single Marauder had been yet to be caught. That is, until very recently. A group calling themselves the Wardens ambushed the Marauders and slaughtered a large group of them. The Wardens were wearing perfectly shined silver armor and carried weapons with ancient symbols on them, also made of silver. The Wardens said nothing to anyone who asked them, other than that they've come to restore balance. Then, they just disappeared as quickly as they appeared. It was around this time that the man stopped talking, and smiled. After a couple of seconds, he looked up at you from the table and said "Let me tell you a story.."
That was supposed to be the end of the war, but the Marauders have claimed on many occasions to be of Demonic descent, and many people compare the Warden's use of silver and sudden appearance and disappearance to Angels. In fact, some people believe that the Angels and Demons have been, in secret, passed down into less-pure beings, eventually becoming the Wardens and Marauders.
OOC
TLR: Giant war between Angels and Demons, neither side won. New groups called the Wardens and Marauders are supposedly decedents of them.
The character sheet isn't out yet, I'll post it in the interest check at a later date for anyone who's interested and wants to fill it out before I get the role play up.
I'm glad this came out, it let me put a name to this role play that I've been thinking about for a long time.

Legends goes, hundreds of years ago there was a colossal war between Angels and Demons. The Demons, who were the offspring of evil gods with corrupted hearts, were set out to terrorize the inhabitants of the world with evil greater than imagination. The Angels, the offspring of the pure gods, were summoned to protect said inhabitants. Eventually, fight over the inhabitants of the world escalated. The escalation, and the start of the war, are associated with the Demons' attack on Agartha, a legendary city where Angels gathered to replenish themselves.
The Demons appeared out of nowhere, slaughtering tens of hundreds unsuspecting Angels before they could arm themselves, then many hundred times that amount died on both sides once the fight was fair. The attack brought the Angelic army to their knees, their capacity was diminished by over a third of itself. A legendary group of Angels, later known as the Martyrs of Agartha, banded together and crusaded against the Demonic equivalent of Agartha, Niflheim. This crusade evened the playing field for the Angels.
Upon the realization that they were now in an even fight with the Angels, the Demons sought out to cripple their adversaries once and for all. They planned an ambush on the last remaining Archangels and their troops, they planned to kill the Archangels and get out before the rest of the Angelic army had time to react. If this were done, the Angels would not have the strength needed to hold back the Demons any longer. They attempted to mount the sneak attack on the Angelic army, however, the Angels were ready for them when they arrived. As the Demons were crawling out of their portals from the nether regions, the Angels barraged them with everything that the Angels had at their disposal. From the start of the battle, the Angels held the advantage. However, a small group of elite Demons managed to open a portal in the middle of all of the Angels, and began wreaking havoc from the inside, smashing the Angels' defenses between them and the surrounding Demons like a hammer and anvil.
The Angels were staring defeat, but they never stopped fighting. They knew the moment they lost was the moment the Angelic army would have been defeated. The Angels charged together, ripping a hole in the Demonic wall. On the retreat, they still never stopped fighting back at the Demons. The Angels' numbers were diminishing quickly, the Demons already outnumbering the Angels by hundreds, that number rising.
The Angels' numbers were reduced to less than a hundred, the Demons' closer to four. This ambush had quickly become a self-contained war, reducing the numbers of both sides to near non-existent. The Archangel Mikael, the final Archangel in existence, realizing that he was finally defeated, readied a Soul Arrow, an arrow containing the soul of an Archangel. Once an Archangel fires his Soul Arrow, he is destroyed. As a final blow, to assure that his defeat wasn't in vain, he fired his Soul Arrow straight into a Demonic portal, destroying both Mikael and the Demonic city of Niflheim. All Demons in Niflheim were obliterated in the Holy explosion of the Soul Arrow, and any Demons and Angels still fighting quickly extinguished each other. Old Bard |
