overview.
Over 300 years ago, the Salem Witch Trials took place in colonial Massachusetts between early 1692 and mid-1693. The Trials were started by Governor William Phips, who held a series of hearings and prosecutions in which more than 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraftโ"the devil's magic"โand 20 of those people were executed by hanging. Even though the governor thought he was doing something good and actually believed he was ridding Massachusetts of witchcraft practitioners, he was only half right. See, those accused and executed people were innocent. They had no magic and did not worship the devil. The real witches and warlocks were cunning and careful not to be caught. And they made the choice to leave Massachusetts after witnessing innocents being wrongfully executed for no reason. They got the hell out of Dodge, fled as far south as they could, and that's how New Orleans eventually became the new Salem.
The witches and warlocks of Salem settled in New Orleans and hid their powers and abilities from the public eye to ensure they wouldn't have to flee again. Over the next few years, the Salem Coven procreated and had children of their own that were born with extraordinary powers and abilities. The Salem bloodline continued for many, many generations, and a lot of the witches and warlocks left New Orleans not only to inhabit other states but also other countries such as Mexico, Haiti, and Saudi Arabia.
Miss Robichaux's Academy for Gifted Individuals was built in 1790 as a private school for privileged girls and boys but was turned into a military hospital during the Civil War. In 1868, Helena Dorrance, the reigning Supreme at that time, the most powerful witch of the generation, and a prominent socialite back then, reclaimed the building and reinstated it as a school as a cover-up, but in reality, she turned it into a safe haven for young witches and warlocks to learn and hone their powers.
Fast forward to the 21st century, and there are only a couple hundred witches and warlocks left in the world, as a lot of them died off and many chose not to reproduce. Only a handful of young witches and warlocks attend The Academy, and now those young adults are facing challenges that could possibly wipe out the rest of them. Covens across the world have been attacked by various creatures, such as The Afflicted, humans that carry an ancient blood virus that gives them the supernatural characteristics of a vampire. There are also The Pale and The Feral, who are both flesh-eating, bloodthirsty creatures who have no control over themselves and kill whoever they please. But the greatest threat to the Salem Coven is the recent spike in cases of witches and warlocks being executed by Witch Hunters. As Covens around the world go down one by one, with the Salem Coven being next on the list, will these Salem Descendants have what it takes to defend themselves and their bloodline, or will it all come to an end?

The Academy
INFO
Miss Robichaux's Academy for Gifted Individuals is a boys and girls boarding school for witchcraft; which also acts as a safe haven for young witches and warlocks. Located in New Orleans, Louisiana, Miss Robichaux's Academy for Gifted Individuals is an academy where young descendants of Salem witches are enrolled once their powers have been uncovered. It is here that they are taught the history of their kind, how to practice witchcraft, and how to discover and control their magical abilities.
The Supreme
NPC
The current reigning Supreme is Andromeda Eleanor Dean. She is the queen of all witches and warlocks worldwide who descended from the Salem Witch Trials. While most witches and warlocks possess only a handful of inherent supernatural gifts, the Supreme is said to be the living embodiment of magic itself, identified via their mastery over 7 distinct magical abilities known as The Seven Wonders. In addition, the Supreme possesses immunity to all pre-existing ailments and diseases, and their very presence causes the air around them to vibrate with "sheer power". Despite these talents, a Supreme rarely possesses the ability to perform specific feats of magic inherited by other witches via their own unique family bloodlines, or which these witches have managed to develop on their own, among these gifts such as The Sight, Clairvoyance, or Illusion Manipulation, to name a few.
Unfortunately, the Supremacy does not last solely with one witch, as with time the next generation's Supreme will be born and the former Supreme's powers will begin to pass on to their successor. As a result, while the new Supreme flowers, the life force of the former regnant gradually fades, and their immune system faces a rapid decline in the form of multiple organ failures, disease, diabetes, and cancer until their inevitable death. Each Supreme roughly takes about 30 years to rise to their full potential before a new Supreme inevitably takes their place.
In order for the Salem coven to establish a witch who has inherited Supremacy, a witch chosen by the current Supreme must undergo the Test of the Seven Wonders - a set of tasks conducted by the Witches' Council which revolve around all seven of these aforementioned magical abilities. Whichever witch successfully exhibits them all can then lay claim to the title of Supreme, and only upon the death of their predecessor will they inherit the full extent of their magical powers. Despite this, the risk associated with undertaking the Test of the Seven Wonders can outright kill a witch if they do not possess the magic and mastery necessary to complete one of the Test's specific tasks. โ Meryl Streep
The Headmistress
NPC
Diana Annalee Carter is the current headmistress of Miss Robichaux's Academy for Gifted Individuals. She attended the academy as a young girl and was appointed headmistress by the Witches' Council since Andromeda Dean neglected to take leadership over the academy when she became Supreme and decided to jet-set her life away around the world. โ Anya Taylor-Joy
Vodou Queen
NPC
The Vodou Queen is a title given to heavily famed vodou practitioners and was given for their accomplishments in the Vodou arts and for their power. Marie Laveau is the legendary Vodou Queen of New Orleans. Her status in the Vodou practice is equivalent to that of the Supreme in Witchcraft. โ Angela Bassett
The Students
OPEN
The students who attend Miss Robichaux's Academy for Gifted Individuals fall under three different categories; Witches, Warlocks, and Vodouists.
Witches and Warlocks are humans gifted with the genetic heredity to affect change by supernatural or paranormal means, an innate connection to the elements and forces of nature that allows them to practice witchcraft. Because of their unnatural abilities and supposed connections with dark forces, witches and warlocks have historically been feared, persecuted, and hunted. Many escaped the Salem Witch Trials and sought refuge in New Orleans.
Vodouists are mortals with magical abilities; they typically have fewer abilities than a typical witch, but they are almost always stronger in the ones they do have. Unlike witches and warlocks who are often related to witches who escaped the Salem Witch Trials, Vodouists are related to Marie Laveau. However, some of them can be related to the first witch accused of witchcraft during the Salem Witch Trials, Tituba. Vodouists have access to abilities and spells that other witches do not, ostensibly because the gods they venerate - Loas - have made it so. Vodouists are often more powerful than regular witches, due to their strong attachment to their ancestors and the deceased. Vodou powers are frequently activated through ceremonies, so rising Vodouists typically require a coven.
The Council
INFO
The governing body of the witches, warlocks, and vodouists is made up of two elderly witches and one elderly warlock. Genevieve Baldor, Constance Delonghi, and Albastor Windsor. They are responsible for investigating issues and crimes that revolve around the coven, concealing witchcraft from the uninitiated, and welcoming potential students to Miss Robichaux's Academy. The council only visits the coven on very important cases, such as the death of another witch.
The Seven Wonders
INFO
The Seven Wonders is a category of magical abilities that the Salem witches use to determine who will be the Supreme Witch, a title they use to refer to the most powerful witch among them who will lead their coven. Although witches will typically manifest one to three of the Seven Wonders throughout their lifetime (or more if they are particularly powerful), they will not qualify as the Supreme Witch unless they demonstrate that they possess all seven of the following abilities: Telekinesis, Concilium, Pyrokinesis, Transmutation, Vitalum Vitalis, Descensum, and Divination.
