(Sorry this took a little...I was really sick yesterday and had no muse for anything but Tablet games xD .)

Marley sighed as she glanced up at the starry sky.Not a cloud covered the sparkling galactic bodies, however the light shining onto the earth wasn't as strong as one might think it would be on a night such as this. The moon was preparing itself for another go around through its phases,so it gave no light.Had there been the moon's spotlight that night, she would not have attempted a search for much needed food. She hadn't dared tried to swipe or scavenge for food in the past couple days.New Peacekeepers had been issued and security was higher than usual. That would have been asking to get caught. However, she figured that, now that they had been given a few days to get settled in,things would be easier.Plus, quite frankly, she could not wait another day.Pickings had been slim the past few weeks and she was running on the bottom of the barrel junk that she had managed to find or steal. She had no luck lately and her body was suffering from it.She had a wicked headache and knew that fatigued would soon set in should she not manage to find something tonight.I have to be careful, she told herself as she exited the abandoned alley she called home and started down the street to hunt for something in the most lovely of things. The garbage. The saying "beggars can't be choosy" definitely applied there and even if whatever she found tasted disgusting,it would be enough to survive and survival was all she wanted.

As Marley made her way down the street, she glanced all around her,not trusting that the walkways and shadowed places were truly uninhabited by nighttime watchers like they tried to give off.Somebody has to be out...or are they all back to their normal routines? she thought warily as she placed her hands into the back pockets of her ragged jeans that were as thin as an old blanket. She couldn't complain, they protected her skin. However, she did wish they gave a little more insulation to her body. The same went for her shirt, which was a bit heavier, but showed the wear and tear it went through. She did not really allow herself to wish since her hopes always turned to let downs and a let down was something that could shatter her struggling heart. With the loss of her family to a "factory accident",she couldn't handle another loss, whether it be a wish,a dream,or something real. So,she went along blandly through life, always on her toes for fear the Peacekeepers would finally catch her.

At the start of the new day, grand old midnight,Marley entered an alleyway that seemed promising. There were a few garbage cans and a dumpster. There had to be something there, right?Nothing.Only a few crumbs not worth scraping up.So,she went on to the next one and found the same thing. This went on for a good hour and she was beginning to feel tired. However, she decided that a search through one more alley wouldn't hurt and she went to one that was between two houses that used to be occupied by Peacekeepers.According to her mental records, they hadn't been occupied for a while and she didn't expect any of the newbies to have taken them for their homes since they could be considered fixer-uppers.However,she was pretty sure that the people who managed the garbage hadn't even thought to empty it and some people were known to dump there wastes into unowned cans to get out of any fees that might come along with having the officials get rid of it.It's my last hope for tonight, she thought as she started over to a garbage can that seemed somewhat shiny, too shiny to have been sitting there for a while. However, her desire to find something to eat came ahead of being cautious to things like that and she eagerly lifted the lid,the spark of hope blocking out her better judgement and desire to keep wishful thinking at bay.A smile came across her face as a bounty of undesired food awaited her there. It hadn't been out there long and some of it was actually worth her time.Without worrying about what noise she was making, she reached in and began to feel around for something to sink her teeth into.
