The Dearborn Bucks
Founded by Anthony Dearborn in 1872, this pleasant little town lies tucked away in the evergreen forests of the Pacific Northwest. It’s the kind of town you stop in for a cup of coffee on a road trip and remember fondly because of the barista’s friendly, down-home charm; the kind of town where everyone turns out for home football games, farmer’s markets, and annual events like the Founder’s Festival and Baby Animal Fair; the kind of town every grandfather wants to be buried in – and every grandson wants to escape.

Our characters will be people from all walks of life living in Dearborn. Some of us were born here, some of us thought we had managed to start new lives in Seattle or Portland but now find ourselves back where we started, and some of us are just getting to know this quirky little town for the first time. Students, teachers, parents, business owners, local press, I encourage you to play whatever kind of character inspires you most! I did cite Pretty Little Liars and Alice Is Missing as major inspirations, so absolutely feel free to play mostly high school and college students if your art heart compels you to do so.
The only kind of character I would discourage you from playing are government officials and police – the larger plot involves some themes of corruption so I would prefer all player characters to be on the outside of that. However, if you have a concept that you really want to try, PM me and we’ll chat about it. :-)
Without further adieu: the character sheet! Feel free to use sheets that are different from this, but please make sure they contain the same basic information as this one.
Name:
Age:
Important Identities:
Occupation:
Outer self:
Inner self:
Brief History:
**Note: I know this looks a little different from other character sheets, so let me break down some of the categories. “Important Identities” is any personal identity your character holds that you want to be disclosed up front, like ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability, religion, etc. You don’t have to share any of those things if you prefer to just have them appear in your writing, or you can share the ones that you think help give the rest of us important information about your character, or you can list every single one if you have all those details on hand! All up to you.
“Inner/Outer Self” is all about how others perceive your character and how your character perceives themselves. There may be misunderstandings or straight up disparities between these two aspects of your character – maybe they seem shy or antisocial on the outside but they just struggle to know what to say on the inside, or maybe they seem like a totally extroverted social butterfly but they’re actually quite lonely. It’s also great for the outer and inner self to align: maybe on the outside they seem rude and blunt and that’s because on the inside they’re jaded and no-nonsense. In summary, just have fun with it! And pay special attention to the “Outer Self” portion of your fellow players’ sheets to figure out how your own character perceives others.
