The outbreak
In the past zombies have often been figments of the human imagination, come to life by means of games, books or movies screens. The causes would vary, some unknown, others fungal, viral or the result of warfare. Our outbreak starts seven years ago with the birth of a tiny organism and whereas most animals seem immune, humans proved to be the suitable hosts. Eukaryotes that would nestle itself within the brain of a person where it gained the potential to grow into a parasite over the course of several weeks. The first symptoms include; memory-loss, headaches, blurred vision and tremors. It is believed that the spread of these eukaryotes was caused by consuming infected water or food. By the time officials figured out what was going on, let alone how to stop it, 47% of the worlds population had already been infected. Evolving quickly the parasite overcame most countermeasures humanity threw its way. Today only an estimated 30% of the human population remains, sprawled out across continents. The parasite is no longer transmittable by water, only through bodily fluids and there are ways of removing the parasite if a person is diagnosed in time, by means of medicine or brain surgery.
The Zombies
The parasite nestles itself within the brain of the host, consuming non-essential brain-matter and taking control over the brain-stem and auditory cortex. For this reason most zombies rely on sound and, driven by primal urges, will attempt to feast upon anything that makes itself known. There are reported cases were zombies have even started attacking each other. Killing a zombie is usually done by any kind of serious damage to the back of the skull or by severing the spinal cord.
The spire
Or more commonly referred to as home-base, is a massive tower set at the edge of a semi-large city. It was well on its way to completion right before the outbreak, the centerpiece of what was supposed to be some architectural wonder. Surrounded by work-sites and wastelands it was easily defendable and originally one of the biggest refuge centers, but its population keeps dwindling due to food shortages, lack of medicine and disease outbreaks. Slowly but surely democracy failed and hierarchy took its place.
The first Layer - At the top of the hierarchy you find a select group that call themselves the Noblesse, the rich and former military officials who give orders to their so called 'enforcers' former-soldiers. They are the ones who decide where the food and medicine goes, so that they may live comfortably within their penthouse and decide the fate of those who live in or around the spire.
The Second Layer - Below this you find the visionaries; doctors, scientists, mechanics who have worked their way up the chain to make a comfortable living. The essential people who know how to keep things running. They are responsible for the integrity of the spire, it's electricity, clean water, the refinery, farmlands and the security of the fences and trenches around the property.
The Third Layer - Then we get to the working class; farmers, carpenters, enforcers and so on, the people who do the heavy lifting. This class has access to a decent amount of food and a scarce amount of medicine.
The Fourth Layer - At the bottom we find the stragglers, the new, sick, old, disabled or simply unfortunate people. They mostly live in small huts adjacent to the tower and barely manage to get by. Most live by scavenging beyond the spire's fences, which is not only dangerous, but also not as rewarding as one might think. Most scavenged goods get confiscated by the enforces upon re-entry and smuggling is punished by exile.
Bounties
Scavengers are usually found between the third and fourth layer of the spire, other than the regular goods, which make for a couple rations, they can opt for a bounty. These bounties are issued by the first and second layer and usually make for a high risk high reward situation. A bounty can be anything; the retrieval of an undead, dead or alive person, mechanical parts, weapons, medicine or memorabilia. To do this a crew needs to gain access to or infiltrate warehouses, bunkers, military sites and fend off hordes of zombies or enemy factions. Rewards may include; medicine, vehicles, weapons, ammunition and fuel.
Crews
There are several crews that work independently and would often compete against each other for bounties. During the RP the crew will have to collectively decide which bounties to take. A couple of the most skilled and successful crews are;
- Dead Hunting - Leader: Montana Walker - Relation: Your crew.
- Zombie Hunter Gang - Leader: Jack Murray - Relation: Friendly.
- Underdog Reapers - Leader: Maria Cortez - Relation: unfriendly.
- Anarchy Flock - Leader: Joe Hall - Relation: unfriendly.

The Role Play
The RP will take place on-site, but there will also be a discord server to discuss and encourage character growth, interpersonal relationships and plot development. The RP will/might include: survival, angst, mild gore, death, strong language, zombies and possibly some things I did not think of yet (open to suggestions).
Requirements
This roleplay will be relatively casual, requiring a minimum reaction length of around 2 paragraphs with decent grammar. Also be mindful to pay a certain amount of attention when it comes to reading and writing to prevent confusion, overlooked details and posts in which previous reactions of others are ignored.
Attendance
It tends to be an issue with literate RP's and real-life should always have priority. That being said, please do let us know if you're indisposed for more than a week or if you lose interest. Minimum posting frequency is set around 1 post a week. To keep the RP going I might choose moments to implement time-skips or npc's.
Applications
There are a couple of suggested roles, but you're free to make one up as well. Face-claims are to be realistic and I'll be accepting around five players. You may put a place-holder up, but I will not put roles on reserve. As long as a character is pending, others may still apply for the role. You may use your own css. Once a character is accepted I will send a discord link using a private message.
Suggested Roles
The leader, the one who gets to make sure no-one gets killed.
The mechanic/driver, the one who makes sure they get places.
The medic, the one who pieces people back together.
The muscle, the one that gets to do the dirty work.
Etc...
And not to forget, adhere to rpnation rules!
