DC Elsewhere

Heroes.
Legends.
Gods.

The DC universe, as we know it, is brimming with all three. Stories upon stories of powerful beings fighting against varied injustices - saving those who need saving from the deadliest of foes, those of whom are equally as powerful. But no matter power and no matter might, everyone must start somewhere.
The humblest of beginnings.
And where better to begin than Elsewhere?

The year is 2021 and these heroes … these gods … scarce exist. A green arrow yet to be shot, a canary cry never but heard and a bat sign far from lighting up Gotham’s midnight sky. This is an alternate Earth. One where these characters do not resemble themselves - their counterparts we’ve grown to love and cherish. To root for, and to root against. A new timeline. A new universe. A fresh and creative take on heroes and villains -
Old
And
New.

The concept is simple. You have creative will. Create new characters to rise up within this new DC universe, or take old ones and remake them to your liking. Do the same with their once classic stories. We’re starting from “canon scratch” and putting our own unique spin on things. A DC roleplay unlike any other.

-

The plot is also simple. As stated, the year is 2021 and the world needs heroes - desperately. Fortunate for the world, a young man has recently come out as the mysterious “Super-Man” figure, who has been the front page of every weekly tabloid for the last several months. With his press statement, in which he revealed his true nature ...
The Superman has unknowingly ushered in a new era. He has unlocked a door that will never again be closed. This is the time to stand up. To do something. This fresh world and this universe will never be the same.

From Gotham to Star City, and Metropolis to Bludhaven,

Heroes are waking up.
Ready to reach out from those humble beginnings. Ready to do their part.

But as they awaken,
So do those who seek to do harm.

This is it.
This …
Is
Elsewhere.

Hey guys,
So I’m going through a bit of a crazy DC phase right now. Used to be super into the comics when I was younger, and my love has recently resurfaced and doesn’t seem to be going back down anytime soon. So I thought I’d set up a roleplay to help. This is just the basics of it, but I plan to have things up and running soon ( whether this gets traction or not ). So let me know if you’re interested or if you have any questions. I wanna just have fun and get creative with it, but I may be a lil’ strict on the playing of certain characters. If you wanna end up being someone big like Bats or a Green Lantern, I have to know that you’ve got what it takes. I want this to be casual enough and fun, while also having some meat to it. I want there to be grit and some level of maturity in the writing itself and the actual themes we end up dealing with.

I’m expecting posts to be at least two paragraphs, with a definite recommendation of going over that minimum. I wanna have fun, but I also want a place where we can flex the writing and character/storyline creation skills.

So yeah,
Let me know if you guys are interested!

Can’t wait to get started.

Is this open? Ive been getting really into Justice league (Zack Snyder Cut), and the animated movies and such, and it's making me crave something like this. Though I do have questions. Such as, would this be a point in time where darkseid is truly dead? And same with Doomsday, if not, then depending on the power limits, we could be in some trouble

Also, mature content in this makes sense because Dc is meant to be more gritty

It's a "Year One" kind of setting, so everything is fresh-faced and new. Darkseid/Doomsday aren't even like a thought yet. Humans don't know that all those aliens exist officially, and stuff. So Darkseid and stuff are probably alive, but like ... I don't plan for them to be a part of the role play whatsoever. At least not until we get to a state where I think they could successfully be introduced!

interested !!

Yasss, glad to hear it!

I am interested. First thought is a not-edgy but still hyper-competent bat man with a weird animal motiff. Or something else- you know I'll figure something out

Well, again, even if we did end up adding them in, how would we be able to beat beings so powerful? Unless our characters had a combined strength of a Kryptonian, or hell, were able to level fucking universes, considering powers along is ridiculous in Dc

Also, is magic gonna exist in this universe, like the shit John Constantine and Raven do?

Who knows how we'll beat them. But I guess that's what makes it fun. 🤓

Yeah, we have someone already interested in playing Zatanna! So magic is allowed, as long as we keep it in check!

Well, how strong can our magic get? Like, will the elements be able to destroy continents, or even planets, or will it be more like Avatar the last Airbender, or more like just normal Dc?

I feel the general rule is usually you wanna RP something that’s fair to your character growth as well as other players. OP characters aren’t fun to interact with or to play, and with a rewrite of the DC universe there is a whole avenue of nuance that can be explored

  • Power creep can occur to some extent over the course of the events of the RP. These extreme scenarios are late game, and no hero - not even superman - could do much of anything near the start when compared to prime - be it because of lack of experience, allies or whatnot. What we don't want - and I speak here as someone who has spoken at length with the guy running this - is for someone to come in here and make this about them. And the easiest way to do that is to keep it reasonable. That means there won't be anything remotely associated with 'planet level' or 'continent level' or whatever - because even if a character could do those things at some point, they won't be able to do it at the start and won't be allowed to do it against anyone else in the RP, or even outside of other characters - because that level of effect on the setting as a whole impacts wayy too many people. The narrative is a personal one - which means we are looking for character driven interactions. By throwing around world ending powers - especially at the point where they are not relevant at all - invites the wrong idea immediately. So - yeah - i understand why people are reluctant to tell you how we will beat Darkseid - because - if you are allowed or able to do so now - nothing at the start of this will mean anything to you, and nothing will take place that will seem valuable until we get to the point where those powers are realized. Which is just not what the RP is about. So, if nothing else - assume a massive handicap because of lack of experience, training, whatever. Darkseid would kill us all like nothing most likely.
