DB with a Solar Wife and Loyalties to the realm

i've had an idea for a DB. he's and Air caste, Ledaal member. his wife became a solar out of the realm while she was being attacked. Arashi (my characters name) is completely devoted to his wife, but also to his family and feels he must serve the realm. but, as we all know, he could be sentenced to death if anyone found out. i would like to know what most DB would do if in a situation of Love or Service. what do any of you think?
 
It all comes down to his level of religious fervor.  Does he truly believe his wife has become a demonic anathema, or can he accept the fact that perhaps the Immaculate Faith is innacurate, and that the Solar Exalted aren't demons?  This is where your Virtues and Nature come into play, dude.
 
Think about how nasty divorce can be in the real world; can you imagine trying to split from a Solar?  Can you say 'Fatal Attraction'?  lol  Seriously, Seiraryu has the right idea about the character.  How fanatical are you to the Empire and the Immaculates?  Does he want to leave everything behind to live on the run with his wife, or take the much more dangerous route and try to preach that the Solars are not the demons everyone has been led to believe?
 
He's more devoted to his wife than anything. but he feels that he owes the Family, at least, some service. he would much rather be with his wife, but he also feels that his loyalties to the realm are near equally important. he wouldn't preach that the "Anathema" are not the uber demons the IO make them out to be. that would be heresy, and the price for that is high. outside of the realm, maybe he would say, "hey this is the truth, i have living breathing proof that solars are not blood thirsty demons." if someone brought it up.he's not the preaching type.

That is a hard question. I find it unbelieveable for any character to be that black or white. But I beilive since he's linked to both he might try to find a "cure" for her "situation". Un-exalt her if you will.


Might be an interesting mini-plot in itself.


Posing this to his family he may be able to follow his wife around, and still be alright with his family side too.


Since he's obviously not that religeously devout this might just the thing to send him over the edge, preying day and night, begging the dragons for an explination or help in the matter.


Or it could send him the other way and make him turn his back on the so-called religeion of the Realm. Not being the type to preach about his beliefs that would only fuel him to follow his wife to the ends of the earth.
 
There is a Wood elemental dragon, described in Savant & Sorceror, whose poison infuses a fragment of wood Essence in the soul of the victim.  If the victim survives, they will become a Wood Elemental God-Blooded, probably Inheritance 3 or 4, depends on the exact Essence of the Dragon, and will lose any Exaltation.  He could have heard of that 'cure' and be trying to figure out of way to get his wife to that dragon, so that she can be bitten.
 
I look at things in turms of black and white I have revised them many times over the years but I have a very highly defined rules of right and wrong my rules include situational modifires, then again I define true evil as definging right and wrong and then dong what you belive is wrong all else is insanity


I considere my question valid dose the char love his wife or not the char choice is determined by that question is it love or family loyalty
 
Why does it necesarily come down to a choice between the wife and House Ledaal?


 First off, what is the wife's reaction to the Exaltation? If she's suddenly convinced that Arashi and all his kin are the direct heirs to those responsible for 'her' death in the First Age, and tries to kill him, then his choice may be just a bit easy to make.


 On the other hand, if she sees her Exaltation simply as another potential asset for House Ledaal--or, more specifically, her immediate family, I don't see why House loyalty has to come into it.
 
SiD gets the pony.  His reaction is going to be dependant on her reaction.  


If she turns into a force that threatens his family, their people, and runs on a rampage to destroy all that is holy...well, that means that you're taking a bit too much from a lot of anime and need to tone that shit down a bit.


If she is awakened to her new responsibilities, but still has her family loyalties intact, perhaps she will try to recruit her husband to her cause, or rather, their situation will lend itself to their paths being so very close, that there isn't too much difference.


If they are Ledaal, they know the politics of the Realm.  They both know what the skinny is.  If played properly, they can use her "condition" to the family's advantage, and their own.  Mind you, they might need to move away from the Realm, to a country estate, or take jobs dealing with trade issues in the Threshold, but good Ledaal's are careful about playing politics anyhoo.  That Ledaal is careful about its repuation about Anathema threats, and DOESN'T play games with such things, means that your boy will want to keep it a secret, but nobody says that he has to abandon his family to keep his wife.


But, they do have to be careful.  Which shouldn't be as hard, if the wife is just another Patrician. Not much is expected of her.  He's already from a bookish pansy House that rarely plays games of throne grabbing politics. Slipping under the radar shouldn't be all that hard.


The question is: does the wife have a tutor who is going to school her in Solar-ness?  Will she join a Circle of her own? Can your boy justify her being away?  


More importantly--can your character deal with being Steve Trevor to her Wonder Woman?  The key is not to focus too much on the wife, as opposed to the character himself. His relationship with his wife is going to be important, but from an ST view, I'd be leary, so that the PC doesn't get overshadowed--which means in my games, the wife would be taking some extended sabatticals and long trips to the country.  Rumors then spread about how the couple isn't getting along. Plausible deniability then creeps in, and if her secret is blown, then he's covered, and if she was a good wife, that would be how she'd want to play it to protect him and the family.


Doesn't mean that they aren't getting along, but perhaps their paths cross infequently, a star crossed love that can drive a lot of plot hooks.  Not a super-secret Dynast uber Solar Ninja that's at his beck and call--but a powerful Ally.

The immaculate order teaches that the original souls and personalitys of those who become anathema are complete consumed.


(Its referred to in both the dawn and twilight caste books)


Thus if his religous fervors strong enough he might want to "Avenge" her, against the "Monster" that wears her shape.


This of course is meant to keep the family and friends from protecting them.


And I'd advice you to remember that the "Cure" in question is exceedingly dangerous, and probaly not worth the risk.


A good possiblety would be for her to fill him in on his rightful place in the world as a terrestial exalt and the scales to fall from his eyes.
 
Of course, the husband might decide to go with the immaculate reasoning on dragonblooded doing some demon summoning and apply THAT to his wife... check out page 77 of Sex & the Sorceress (S&S)...  :wink:
 
when i wrote his history down and what happened, his reaction was that of surprise and definetly terror.  all he was doing was protecting her from enemies and the second he turns around she's this flaming pillar of fire and power. he pretty much is overtaken by fear that his wife has just become an "Anathema", and faints on the spot. they both get picked up by a sidereal and this sideral tells him that this is the last time for a few years that he can see his wife. he talks to her, and realizes that, the IO was not right in displaying the "Anathema" as blood-thirsty power hungry uber killing machine demons. shes just as beautiful as before, and looks almost exactly as she did before, except for the glowing Twilight caste mark shining on her head. the sidereal pulls him aside, just before he mounts up to leave for home, and attempts to explain that the IO is wrong about the solars,and spreading the GF propaganda (if you will). obviously this is alot to take in for one person. his wife just turned into something he was taught to hate, and his whole religion is "wrong", and his choices are difficult. keep the secret and stay loyal, abandon the realm or his wife, sell his wife out. not that he has to do any of those things for sure, but the character is having, obviously, to make a difficult choice, one way or another, it seems. so his reaction is all up there, and he's not sure what hes gonna do. his wife will be protected, shes going off to train with CoTI. so he knows that she will be safe. he simply just doesnt know what hes going to do. thats pretty much his reaction.
 
One question I have, and mainly because I am picky about details is why a Dragon Blooded Ledaal might marry a non-exalted mortal. That might point to his religious beliefs not neccessarily being to the level of "fanatic" like many db exalts. Also it might point to him not being very respected, or high up in his family, perhaps a in the country already. Something to think about, if he wasn't that involved because of his obvious hampering of having a mortal wife, then he might choose to go with her without question. Really though it is your character and it comes down to your choice.
 
I personally find it rather odd how a DB from house Ledaal can not realize there's more to an Anathema than monster-looks and immediate slaying of the opposition..


He must have known the historical texts. If the IO is wrong, it means that all of the DB are wrong, that the empire is wrong to have usurped the SOlars. That the empress was wrong, that -all- of the DB's have been wrong, all along. They should be servants to the first solar empire, not rule. And despite, why trust -another- ANathema when he says the first Anathema is good?


Imagine your own wife turned into what you have always seen and heard abous as a monster, but she doesn't show anything ( Since it would be stupid to show herself as evil Anathema in the middle of the realm ) and then someone comes who want to "steal her away", from her having been the dominant person in the family ( Women > Men in DB society ), she's suddenly this guy's pawn..


But these are just my tiny ideas ;P I have many other opinions about it, but oh well. Not enough time or space

Raised his whole life to know that he is like a god and anathema are worthless demons...I can see how he would freak out and kill one, however being that it is his wife, it might complicate matters. Lots of tears is all I can see  :lol:
