The original storyline alternates between the present year of 1980 and the future year of 2013. In the future, Sentinels rule a dystopian United States, and mutants are hunted and placed in internment camps. Having conquered North America, the Sentinels are turning their attention to Mutants, Mutates and all kinds of Superpowered lifeforms worldwide. On the eve of a feared nuclear holocaust, the few remaining X-Men send Kitty Pryde's mind backward through time, to possess the body of her younger self and to prevent a pivotal event in mutant–human history: The assassination of Senator Robert Kelly by Mystique's newly reassembled Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
Working with the present-day X-Men, Future Kitty Pryde succeeds in her mission and is pulled back to her own time, while her present-day self is returned with no memory of any interim. The world of 2013 is not shown again in this story arc; the present-day X-Men are left to ponder whether their future dystopia has been averted or simply delayed.
Are story takes place in that world but the senators assassination was in 2014 and the current time is 2047. Senator Kelly way of thinking made a resurgent like the KKK ideology did in the past. With mutants returning after the Avengers attack the X-Men on there island over the Phoenix Force. This sparked the future that is.
It is horrible future that we live in. North America is control by the Sentinels. Other places under tight control are all of South America and Canada. The safe haven is located in Alaska. There are others along the way but thy can never stay safe forever. If the journey takes us beyond the Americas then that means Alaska has been compromised. The other parts of the worlds are safer but are still controlled.
In Ecuador, There is a prison, A prison were they hold Mutants, Mutates and the most skill and dangerous human rebels. This is were they keep those that rebel against there laws and mutants. They treat them all the same there. In the past people fought for civil rights for mutants so humans and mutants can live in harmony. At less they got what they wish for, Living together in a prison camp.
These people want to escape, Some what to make it to a safe haven and other want to bring down this fascist ruling, Join the X-Men. There is a prison break going on, A attempt by the rebels to free the prisoners. These people are the X-Men and there ready to die for you freedom!
Now run...Your collars are disabled and the X-Men are fighting. You must make it to Alaska, This is the goal. It may change as you journey, You may want to become a freedom fighter, A member of a X-Men.
A Sentinel, The machines that took control of the world and chained all superpowered beings. There are many types for different situations.
Neo-Sentinels, Human who signed up to help keep the prisoners in check.
Omega-Sentinals, Humans who hate mutants so much they have turn themselves to cyborgs. They gave up humanity to see mutants oppressed.
