Darker Fandoms - Berserk, Dark Tower, Dark Souls.
"Every sword belongs in it's sheath. Go back to the sheath your master holds."
This is probably an odd selection of things, so let me break down the themes:
- A world on the verge of destruction, or worlds that have already died.
- A rag-tag group brought together to save the world(s).
- Darkness and desolation. Character death and trauma.
- Morally ambiguous choices.
- Hope
- Betrayal
I’m new to Berserk, and I’ve only played Dark Souls 3 (working on the others), but Dark Tower I am familiar with, as with a lot of Stephen King’s works, and I love the themes in all of these of a world on the edge of ending, and the many ways it could be saved, the many goals characters have in it – like in Dark Souls, how you can choose to link the flame, or put it out forever…and the implied hope of both of those options is just…beautiful to me. There are no bad choices. There is a benefit to letting things go.
Berserk’s villain Griffith is also a major interest to me, he was pursuing his dream…and Randall Flagg is just such a great villain of Stephen King.
So what I’d be looking for with this, is that it be set in a Medieval-Ish time, with serious class issues. I’d like to play with a group like Berserk’s or early Dark Tower (Roland and his crew of gunslingers, or Guts and Griffith), and build our villain, as well as at least one of our heroes, up. Then, we create a cataclysmic event that sets them at odds…destroy the world…and create some new characters on either side to try and save the world we’ve destroyed.
If this appeals, seriously hit me up. I’m a bit rusty on world building, but I can go far with spit-balling. I've listed some ideas, but they're not limited to what's here, at all!
So please, take a look at what I have to offer! Please take a look at my rules, there is a code there!
1. Don't God-Mod. In other words, don't make my character speak, don't make my character, don't make my character take damage, and don't control my character. If you want something to go a certain way for plot purposes, just PM me and ask. Usually, I accept "god-modding" during travel and the like. It is usually acceptable to assume movement if a character is already committed to the journey.
2. Please be able to play both genders, and play multiple roles. Your main character(s) may be just male or just female, but I expect all the side characters and NPCs to have life and flavor, too.
3. On the note of characters: I will always play one female character. So, be aware of that. With that said, I usually also always play one male character, and I do MxM, MxF, and FxF pairings, though I prefer MxF.
4. I only RP on threads, (or GDocs in rare cases), so no PM, kik, discord, e-mail, or other rps with me. So that I know you’ve read the rules this far, please tell me about your favorite food!
5. Please be able to write more than a couple of sentences as responses to me. I have tried to do “simple” RPs, but I end up not feeling motivated to respond or continue the RP. I will need you to be able to write a paragraph or two, each post, at least.
6. PM if you are interested. The only reason for you not to PM me is if you cannot do so due to the fact you haven't reached 24 hours/10 posts.
Guidelines:
1. I do not like to be hassled for posts. Especially if I have already posted that day or the day before. Do not bother me for posts until at least two days have passed. Otherwise, I will start to resent our RP and lose interest in it.
2. I enjoy OOC talk, however I will not respond to "hi" or "-poke-" or equivalents. Have substance to the chatter, even if it just asking "How are you?".
3. Do not bump our thread if I have not posted. I will not post out of spite. I have a problem with this, I acknowledge it, I'm not fixing it.
4. On that matter, please keep OOC to PMs and not on our IC thread. IC is for posting. If you have a question, concern, or comment, just shoot me a PM.
5. In general, I do not enjoy immediate romances or "slice-of-life" RPs, so do not come to me expecting I'll do either. I may make rare exceptions.
Inspired by The Dark Tower, Dark Souls, and Vampire Hunter D, I would like to do a story involving a group that sets out to save the worlds...or what remains of it. This can involve dimension hopping, alternate timelines, and other worlds, or none of that. I imagine it starting out in a ruined world at least, where the terrain and people within it are often just as threatening as the actual villains.
Thematically, I imagine that what holds the world together is being threatened, and what holds it together could be the actual life-source (like Yggdrasil, the Lifestream, the Tower, or the "First Flame"), or it could be something like the source of all knowledge, which could allow someone to literally reconstruct reality based on it (Akashic Records comes to mind for that). This would then shape the reasons and the world(s) around, and help to give a sense of urgency.
We would play both heroes and villains in this, and craft a beautiful wasteland, as well as any other worlds, and build on the fantasy and apocalyptic feel of the world, as well as the bonds in the groups. I would want us to take time to tell both the Heroes and the Villains stories, not necessarily in every post, but I don't want us to lose track of either side. It also wouldn't be required for all of the "heroes" to start together, but they could be encountered as the journey goes on.
That is another aspect of the theme I would like for this - the journey itself, and creating interesting twists and turns. The journey has one goal - but that goal is a while away, and there is much to overcome to make our heroes, heroes, and much for the villains to prepare in order to reach their goal, as well.
Themes heavily borrowed from Star Wars, Berserk, Vampire Hunter D, and Dark Souls.
The idea is that there is a Chosen One, and ideally, we'd play with this before the Chosen One rises to their "position", only the choice they make, what they are "Chosen" for, does not appear to be good (it may be - or it may not be, but whatever the case, it has devestating consequences). I'm imagining a band of heroes in fantasy-ish times, who venture out to put an end to some great evil - I imagine death spreading from a nexus, corrupting and poisoning the world as it advances, and they go to end it, or perhaps we do not do something so straightforward.
No matter, one of them is presented with a truth, or a choice, and based on this, they make a decision that costs them life as they know it - and many literal lives of once-friends. Think Griffith or Anakin Skywalker, or the Ashen One in some endings. A new age is brought to the world - and I do like the theme of the "Age of Darkness", where monsters and creatures thought not to be, or that should not be, are able to roam freely.
The survivors, the ones betrayed, must band together and take on new people as well, to combat this evil, and destroy their friend....
