Appearance:
Rank:
Omnissiah (Imperator - Ministrator mix)
Age:
32
Gender:
Male
Species:
Human
Personality:
When it comes to work, Alaric is always focused and serious. He doesn't like to play around when things are serious. Otherwise, he can be both childish and kind. He enjoys jokes, treats everyone with equal respect, and has high hopes for ambitious kids.
Cybernetics:
Despite Alaric's human appearance, it's hard to say where he ends and the machines start. He's pumped himself full of cybernetics, implants, and various other pieces of technology, he's just always been clean about it.
Background:
Alaric was always a wonderchild. He was born on Taldaris, and his parents were both highly trained soldiers. He never really got to know his parents, however, as they died when he was three during a battle for a resource-heavy meteor passing Taldaris. He was adopted by his uncle, who insisted that he had to start studying to become an engineer so that he could get rich. With the help of his uncle and a teacher from his local academy who found a great interest in Alaric, he managed to skip ahead 7 years, and gain the rank of enginseer by the age of 13, which broke the previous record for youngest highranking engineer.
He continued his studies however, and by the age of 16 reached the incredible rank of Ministrator. Now, unbothered by the lack of physical strength his body had had when he was younger, Alaric joined one of the most famous war academies that existed during that time as a soldier. He didn't only want to invent technology and pilot amazing machinery, he wanted to join the fray himself, so once again he struck the galaxy speechless, by going through the ranks quicker than anyone ever had before. By the time he was 20 he was both an Imperator and a Ministrator, a feat which very few could claim to have achieved in the past. He took the political might this gave him, and declared himself an "Omnissiah". A rank he'd made up himself, to show off his prestige.
Now that he'd reached the amount of power he'd aimed for in life, he felt empty and lost. His uncle had passed away, and in his fight for power, he'd never actually managed to get attached to anyone. He had no friends, but was probably one of the most dangerous men in the universe. He spent a long time depressed when he came to this realization, but he found himself a new goal in life. He wanted to take use of the time he'd spent to attain these ranks, so he decided to start making technology for the benefit of mankind. He spent the next 6 years of his life founding the largest and most successful engineering company that the galaxy had ever seen, CoreTech™.
Eventually, he got tired of this as well, but that's when he found it. His scouting drones had found an enormous planet near the end of the Empire. This planet was absolutely covered in the strangest, most powerful beasts he had ever seen, and there were traces of Archtech on the planet. After some pondering on what he should do with this planet, he used the prototype build of a new kind of satellite CoreTech™ was developing, resigned from his post within the company, and traveled to this planet. After seeing all the riches contained on it, he realized that he personally didn't require anything else in life. He talked to some of the contacts he'd gained during his time with CoreTech™, and eventually ended up on the decision to name the planet Pandora, and refit the entire satellite with training facilities, classrooms, labs, etc, and open Cypress Collegium.
It's been five years now, and he's still happy with his decision.
- War academies are educative facilites created by private people/companies to train soldiers and engineers for profit/their own private armies. There's roughly 70 official ones in the known galaxy, but the unofficial ones expect to rack up in the hundreds. Sometimes fighting competitions are arranged between different ones, and these competitions are referred to as "Grand Duels" and usually include multiple fights between students from different grades, and sometimes displays by staff members.
War academies come in all variants. Most of the high quality ones are situated on space stations, but there are other ones that work like satellites, and there's even a few ones situated on planets. War academies are known to be highly rivalrous between each other, and the ones that win in Grand Duels usually get a lot more respect than those that tend to lose.
- Cybernetics is the collective name for all technological implants, enhancers, computers, weapons, or anything else you can put inside yourself. There's a huge variety of cybernetics in existence, all the way from basic strength enhancing tissue to ChronoTech™ cortex implants, that literally speed up time in your head, making you react faster.
Cybernetics literally tear on your body, and you require extensive training and treatment to be able to hold high quality or multiple ones. Therefore, not even the very richest necessarily have Forbidden Class cybernetics.
Cybernetics get divided into six classes, depending on their quality and power.
Poor Quality
This cybernetic is prone to failing at it's purpose, and always has a very weak effect at what it does. This would be a homemade or heavily damaged cybernetic. It would be apparent to anyone who looks at you that there's a mechanical part on you that shouldn't be there. EXAMPLE: A poor quality calcylatus implant would occasionally give you the wrong numbers, or simply not respond.
Common Quality
Regular, mass-produced cheap cybernetics. They will most likely be large, ugly, visible and clunky, but do what they were made for, however not at a very impressive scale. This would be a bought or well-made homebuild. EXAMPLE: A common quality pyrokinesis implant would most likely only be able to light your own hand on fire, and then stop you from getting burnt by it. Perhaps make small openings in large flames so you can get through with ONLY A FEW third-degree burns.
Good Quality
Professionally produced cybernetics. Despite common quality being more usual, the good quality cybernetics is usually the lowest quality a serious soldier or engineer would stoop down to. Good quality cybernetics can be disguised by clothes, but are usually still visible on the skin. Of course, this largely depends on what kind of implant it is. EXAMPLE: A good quality Ferric Embolsterer would toughen up your skin to the point where you could possibly take a sword cut and not bleed. However, your skin would turn redder by the iron.
High Quality
High quality cybernetics are expensive, take a long time to make, but each one is a masterwork in it's own right. They aren't exactly rare, due to the large population of nobles and soldiers/engineers who purchase them. Usually they are the wielders most powerful and most useful implant. High quality implants can be completely unnoticeable, but it all depends on the type of cybernetic, as well. EXAMPLE: A high quality electrokinesis module would allow the character to absorb almost any levels of volts or ampere shot through them, while allowing them to fire electricity at the power of thunderbolts.
Master Quality
The most modern and advanced technology there is. Anyone who possesses a master quality cybernetic is regarded as a S level threat, if they happen to be criminals. Master quality cybernetics are miniscule, despite having greater effect than 99% of all other cybernetics. Only the richest, and most physically advanced people can wield master quality cybernetics. EXAMPLE: A master quality chronologger could literally stop all time in the universe for a total of 5 seconds. A master quality Nano-Sanguine (Nanobot infested blood) implant would boost a person regeneration to the point where killing them would require a lot of work, even when armed with a battlecruiser. They'd simply be built back together and regenerated within 20 seconds.
Forbidden Quality
Anything regarded too dangerous for the masses to attain. This type of technology is INCREDIBLY rare, and most of the highest level soldiers/engineers haven't even seen one in their life. There's very unusual times where licenses for wielding these weapons of mass destruction are given out to innovative masters who use them for research, or people deemed respectable and reliable enough not to misuse their power. Only about 7 living people in the galaxy have actually attained one of these licenses, and one of those lucky few is Alaric. Forbidden quality gear is mostly ArchTech, which means tech left behind from an ancient (assumed extinct) species, who were incredibly advanced. However, there have been cases where people researching ArchTech have managed to create equally dangerous relics from their knowledge. EXAMPLE: A forbidden quality Force Disperser could literally blow holes in mountains, bring down Grand Cruiser type flagships (Ships that are roughly 25km long, 7km tall, 5km wide), and absorb the impact of 8 nuclear bombs. Forbidden technology is absolutely ridiculous, and the most dangerous piece ever recorded was a telekinetic implant, that could knock planets out of their courses. This implant has since been lost, however.
PsiCoil*
PsiCoils are standard issue for humans who were born within the empire. They are implanted into the child as they are born. Whilst many other species in the galaxy have the ability to conjure their psionic energies to use them in combat, either as electric attacks, or as a boost to their physical powers, humans do not possess this quality. Therefore, PsiCoils were invented as a way for humans to use their psionic powers. PsiCoils gather the psionic energies that float around in humans, and shape them into weapons. PsiCoil users are slightly more powerful than the average human (though not by much) and have a psionic discharge attack, which manifests as a small electric bolt which could possibly incapacitate weaker opponents.
- CoreTech™ was founded by Alaric in 3470, and is currently the largest tech-based company in the galaxy. It's got several branches specializing in different areas, and is the main provider of all technology there is.
PsiTech is a branch dedicated to developing technologies for alien and human species to further utilize their psionic energies.
CryoTech is a branch dedicated to the application of temperature in all situations. They mainly produce coolers for large machinery.
NeoTech is a branch dedicated to producing anything that has to do with light. They produce lasers, concentrated forcefields of light, light to energy/solid matter conversion, anything. Originally it's name was PhotonTech, but it was often confused with PhotoTech, a small camera company, and the trademark fights broke out. It wasn't pretty, but now it's called NeoTech.
NanoTech as you might imagine, is dedicated to making all tech discovered or created by the empire smaller and less clunky.
ArchTech is a branch dedicated to the discovery, research, and collection of all Arch-level technology left behind by ancient alien species. They offer very few and very varied pieces of technology, but everything created by them is immensly powerful and expensive.
MetaTech is a branch dedicated to the research of non-existant materials, that can be summoned into the reality we live in by the use of powerful force fields, amongst other things.
The list of branches is almost endless, and new branches are constantly being founded due to new natural laws being found.
This planet is the main training area of Cypress Collegium, and Alaric has claimed it as his own planet and that it's under his defense. Very few attempts to invade the area have been made, and each one of them shot down violently. Pandora is a dangerous planet, and 99% of the wounds, accidents and deaths happen down here. Vicious creatures, ancient security systems, and hybrids are a thing of the ordinary. Therefore the planet is under a quarantine, and anyone who tries to leave for it without permission will face serious consequences.
(Deployed cloud level version. The picture atop the page is it's satellite form.)
Cypress is one of the most prestigious war academies in the galaxy, and most of the high ranking soldiers and engineers come from here... But then again, it also has the highest mortality rate out of any of them.
Cypress Collegium is the official name of the technologically advanced satellite. The name comes from the original project name of the prototype satellite, Cypress, and then that it's a Collegium. It's roughly 200m in diameter when deployed in cloud level shape, while the version of it used to travel through space or revolve planets is only about 100m in diameter, and more concentrated. This is to offer extra durability for space travel, which unlike the planet floating can cause a lot of damage to a construct.
Cypress Collegium has one of the most famous group of staff and teachers. There's at least a single staff member of every highest possible rank, to ensure that all the students will be satisfied with their education.
Housing
Students will be sharing rooms (more like apartments) with one to two other students of the same gender. The rooms are all luxurious, equipped with anything you could want in a room. There's even balcony areas hidden with stealth fields that are equipped with pools, in case you'd want to go for a swim.
Cypress Collegium is equipped with cutting edge technology, and has multiple facilities for training. There's an outdoor port area for the piloting trainees, there's a group of holophysics rooms, capable of creating anything one would use for training in a small pocket universe.- As war academies became more and more popular, a system of ranks was created to discern the skill of each individual. The ranks are as following:

_________________________________________________________________
Hastati
First Grade Students.
Principes
Second Grade Students.
Triarii
Third Grade Students.
Medicus
Medical specialist unit. Unusual but valuable.
Doctor
Medical specialist unit. Doctors are regarded highly within armies or other private militia, as they are some of the most unusual soldiers you can find.
Archaeum
Medical specialist unit. Archaes are revered like gods where ever they go, as their skill with healing cybernetics and general physiology have been known to have terminally ill patients up and walking after a single day. There have only been 5 Archae throughout the time they've existed.
Legionnaire
Most people who graduate from a war academy go on until they become legionnaires, and then leave for adventures. They're the most usual kind of soldier in the galaxy, but that doesn't mean they're weak.
Templar
Templars are Legionnaires who've decided to keep training their own individual skill, and gone to such lengths with it that they've been promoted to Templars. Templars are often found as very expensive assassins in the galaxy.
Praetorian
The next step up for Templars. Praetorians are usually found as the personal bodyguard for very rich noblemen. Praetorians have a lot of myths around them, some claim that a single Praetorian is worth 500 Legionnaires. Despite this sounding ludicrous, some Praetorians could probably succeed in such a feat.
Imperator
Through time, there have only ever been 7 imperators. These are the most deadly combatants in the universe, and could supposedly wipe out an entire planet on their own. Though this highly depends on the planet, it could definitely be done. Imperators are some of the most feared individuals in the universe.
Centurion
Unlike templars, centurions kept honing their skills in tactics and leadership. Many a important politician have origins in this line of education.
Legatus
Legates are mostly found acting as high ranking officers within armies. Their sharp observation skills and advanced minds are revered. Many private companies and empires look for legates for important positions.
Taellectarii
Only 3 Taellectarii have ever existed, and the only one who is still currently alive is serving as the general of the empire. Their tactical mindset is unmatched, and they are often considered to be the only reason why the empire rose to begin with. Then again, their personal fighting abilites are nothing to frown at either.
Architecti
A newly graduated student who's expressed his interest in becoming a professional engineer. Architecti are quite skilled with all kinds of technology, and are after sought after by armies who require capable engineers.
Academican
An Architecti who's studied and researched the old scriptures and rules for creating Arch technology. They are incredibly skilled with all existing technology.
Titanican
An academican who's learned the secrets to building the holy titans. The empire itself has declared all lore of these war machines holy, and titanicans tend be some of the most proficient repairmen in the galaxy. They are to machines what Archaes are to organisms. The Titans they produce are large to monumental mechs, that tend to be able to switch from their walker mode to a ship-like mode.
Titans come in various sizes (Which are all stolen/repurposed from WH40k)
Dreadnought Class - 5'4m/17'8'' (Yes I know they're not actually titans in WH40k)
Knight Class - 9m/29'6''
Warhound Class - 15m/49'2''
Reaver Class - 24m/78'9''
Warlord Class - 36m/118'1''
Emperor Class - 54m/177'2''
Apocalypse Class - 97m/318'3''
Obliviatus
A genius incarnate. A titanican who's figured out the secrets to building the invincible Obliterator robots. There's only been 5 Obliviatus in the past, and they each created a personal Obliterator. Obliterators are man sized machines, who easily could match an imperator in power and skill.
Machinator
Unlike academicans, machinators are Architecti who've broken off from the regular rules of building, and started experimenting with machinery on their own. They're not quite as good with regular technology as Academicans, but their creativity is unrivaled.
Enginseer
To lots of people, enginseers are like popes. Their touch can create machinery from nothing, according to the crazy legends that exist out there. Enginseers are usually hired by CoreTech to assist in several areas.
Ministrator
There have only ever been 7 ministrators. Ministrators are often fathers to entirely new of technology, such as meta technology, or chrono technology. Minstrators are the front of innovative design, and almost anything personally built by a ministrator is classified as forbidden- or master class technology.
MetaMateria/MetaMatter/Voidstone/Conundrum Crystal
MetaMateria is Materia that doesn't really exist, and is only brought into the physical universe by the use of powerful forcefields. Due to their state of not existing, but still existing in the physical universe, MetaMateria is completely indestructible. The use of MetaMateria is not very widespread, as the amount of energy required to use MetaMateria is enormous, and not a lot of civilizations have ways of building batteries that powerful.
On top of that, there are force fields that remove MetaMateria. As MetaMateria is an anomaly in the universe, keeping it in requires much more power than banishing it back, and these shields basically make MetaMateria completely worthless. There are, however, recorded cases of ArchTech weaponry that is entirely built out of MetaMateria, and has built-in Force Field dampeners, that somehow doesn't interfere with the weapons themselves.
Most of the technology that utilizes MetaMateria is self-charging batteries, really expensive guns, and powerful force fields, capable of blocking basically anything.
The MetaMateria itself is a dark, clear material, that shapes the way your force field is programmed to, and feels like cold glass upon touch. It is odourless, and can not be heated. It's origin is from a dimension parallel to our own, and it was discovered when a planet called "Erixic 9-1A", which had an incredibly high population of highly psionic creatures, started spontaneously opening portals to this parallel universe. The matter that flowed through looked and moved like fire, but it was completely solid and indestructible, leading to it crushing a lot of things on the planet.
It turned out that a high density of Psi-proficient beings can spontaneously cause these portals to appear, and therefore half of Erixic 9-1A's population was moved to Erixic 9-1B, solving the problem.
(tl;dr version)
Cypress Collegium, year 3482, hovering over Pandora. The fifth consecutive year that the school has been open to the public. Founded by Alaric Edwards, former head of CoreTech™. The academy is one of the most prestigous engineer and soldier educative facilities that exists in the galaxy. Creatures and species from all over the systems and expanses apply, but only a few, more or less randomly selected individuals gain entry to this most illustrious satellite. Cypress is a "War academy". "War academies" are academies for professional soldiers and engineers, that started getting popular in the beginning of the 35th century, when a wave of new technology along with the discovery of ancient advanced tech on new planets opened up new possibilities for both imperial and private recon parties to new parts of the galaxy. Most graduates from these academies end up being expensive freelance mercenaries, leader-positions within planetary recon companies, highly respected engineers, or famous inventors.
