Due to over population and constant war Earth was dying. Knowing it couldn't be sustained for long what population could be spared were put onto life boats. These life boats would put humans into cyrosleep for many hundreds if not thousands of years.
They were piloted by Cypher units. Humans who's bodies were killed but their brains survived turning them into AI.
Now these Cyphers are tasked with finding habitable planets for the human race. All the while dealing with the horrors of space and not so friendly machines.
