So here you are, ready to take on the mean streets of Night City, to carve your name into the concrete and titanium-steel face of the City of Dreams. But legends dont get made out of anonymity, choom.

We gotta know who you are, first.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty, there’s the three four rules of being an Edgerunner.

    #1 Style Over Substance
It doesn't matter how well you do something, as long as you look good doing it. If you're going to blow it, make sure you look like you planned it that way. Normally, clothes and looks don't matter in an adventure—in this world, having a leather armor jacket and mirrorshades is a serious consideration.

    #2 Attitude Is Everything
It's truth. Think dangerous; be dangerous. Think weak; be weak. Remember, everyone in Dark Future carries lots of lethal hardware. Each Character in this world is playing a Role—a face that person projects to the outside world as the real thing. They won't be impressed by your new Militech smartgun unless you swagger into the club looking like you know how to use it...and are just itching for an excuse. Never walk into a room when you can stride in. Never look at someone unless you can make it your best "killer" look. Use your best "I'm bad and you aren't" smile. Don't sit around the flat or cube waiting for the next job. Get on out and hit the clubs and hangouts. Make sure you're where the party starts.

    #3 Live on the Edge
The Edge is that nebulous zone where risk-takers and high rollers go. On the Edge, you'll risk your cash, your rep, even your life on something as vague as a principle or a big score. As a Cyberpunk, you want to be the action, start the rebellion, light the fire. Join great causes and fight for big issues. Never drive slow when you can drive fast. Throw yourself up against danger and take it head on. Never play it too safe. Stay committed to the Edge.

    #4 Break the Rules
If you manage to make it to the big leagues, be a Legend, you can do whatever the fuck you want. You think anyone got there playing fair?

But if we’re being serious, don’t break the RPN rules, the golden rule, and general codes of decent conduct. We’re here to have fun.

APPEARANCE
Diego cuts an imposing figure ill-suited for subtlety. Over six-and-a-half feet and 300 pounds of problem-solving, wetworking muscle. Diego’s eyes retain their natural hazel-green color despite getting the cyber-treatment, pinched by the sun but keen as a hawk’s. A strong jaw sports a close-cut beard while his wild jet-black mane is tied tightly into a ponytail. He's rarely seen without his antique panzerboy deltajack, which proudly sports his Aldecaldo Lobos patch on the back, and the Clan’s wild horse patch on the right bicep. Diego's cyberarm is the blue-black of heat-treated titanium-steel and carbon fiber, matching the big-knux implanted in his organic left hand. Though his left arm is flesh and blood, it bears the banal surgical geometries of his implanted linear frame; standing in stark contrast to the full sleeve of neo-traditional tattoos that run from his chest to his fingers.

2049 Thornton Mackinaw; “Tatanka” > with custom suspension and a performance-tuned engine, this chooh-chugging monster is hell-on-wheels. Outfitted with a combat plow on the grill and a heavy chassis with heavy weapon mounts for the discerning road-warrior. Capable of seating the driver, passenger, and 3 additional passengers in the cab. If the bed isn’t loaded with gear or goods, the truck bed can easily seat another 4.

>//LIFEPATH
Diego grew up on the road, traversing the badlands that sweep from South America to Pacifica and beyond. He was born on the open road, taking his first wailing breath as the clan sped along Route 66 in 2071, delivering a foodstuff shipment from the Texas Free State to Night City. He is an Aldecaldo, born and bred into the Clan. His mother was a veteran Tankgirl and gearhead, while his father was a Cheyenne Dog Soldier; a Solo from a Snake Nation family that married into the Clan. Gunsmoke and engine grease was part of Diego’s genetic makeup - in his blood and bone marrow.

Diego was raised on the stories of Clan heroes like Santiago Aldecaldo, which of course included the tales of misadventures of Silverhand during his tenure with the Clan. With his grandfather as one of the infamous Lobos that rolled with Santiago on that ride-and-die mission in 2023, Diego felt a particular allure to the supersonic lifestyle of an Edgerunner and the CHOOH2-fueled thrill of a Nomad. He was always a big boy, and quickly made himself useful as a trunk monkey on the road - slinging ammo cans for machine guns and grenade launchers, while also manning a belt-fed tailgun. Granted, he was a kid, so for the most part he was dealing suppressing fire and little else, but that is enough to send your average scavs and badlands gogangers packing.

When the Fifth Corporate War kicked off and NightCorp was dishing out Eurobucks to the Seven Nations to join the fight against the NUSA and Militech, Diego fought as a teen through much of the conflict, though was finally old enough – and seasoned enough – to join the fight in earnest in 2089. Taking up the mantle of Dog Soldier and Aldecaldo Lobo in tandem, he earned his handle in the badlands.

It was in the final year of the war that Diego suffered his most serious combat injury, losing his right arm to a missile volley from one of Militech DeathBorgs. Limited as they were at the time, Diego’s replacement was a hideous bit of NeoSov hardware that was a little too short and a little too slow – not to mention hot fuckin’ pink – but it was enough to get the job done.

In the wake of the conflict, with his Abuela too old to return to the open road, and his younger sister still reeling from the horrors of the war, Diego became a Static in the still-developing outer barrios of Night City. Where the old Aldecaldo camps used to set up shop in the 2040s, Diego got the keys to Abuela’s old garage, the famous Woodchippers Garage.

>//Attributes

Reflexes: A
Intelligence: B
Body: C
Tech: D (While trained in maintaining weapons and basic components of vehicles, Shiba leaves anything more complex or electronic to the eggheads she pays with the proceeds from her missions.)
Cool: E (This doesn't mean she's constantly barking like her namesake, but she prefers to let bullets do the talking and doesn't mince words when she speaks, on top of being generally stubborn when working with others.)

>//Cyberware

NEURAL -- Neural Link, Interface Plug. Chipware socket to enable olfactory boost and chemical analyzer.

OPTICAL -- Only right eye is cyber. Has chyron (picture in picture) functionality as well as a targeting scope function that integrates with smartlink systems.

RESPIRATORY -- Nasal filters provide immunity to inhaled toxins and diseases, and connects to an internal air supply that lasts 30 minutes.

NERVOUS -- Cybernetic ear enhancement with accompanying bodysculpting. The actual functions are in her "human" ears, however. Can either amplify hearing or dampen against loud/unwanted sounds.

SKELETAL -- Bone lacing for improved durability.

>//Gear

Weapons:
As a combat specialist and former private security force member, Shiba owns several weapons, which she then selects based on the operation.
  • Militech Police 12-gauge shotgun
  • CCMMC Tuzi-8 submachine gun
  • Stolbovoy St-4 pistol
  • Combat knife with blackened blade and shock baton for close quarters
  • Always carries a flashbang grenade, may also pack an additional smoke grenade and sedative gas grenade when prepared for an operation

Armor:
Like practically everyone in Night City at present, Shiba never goes anywhere without a thin Kevlar weave vest under her clothing. When on an operation, she prepares with a medium armorjack vest as well as elbow and shoulder pads and a helmet.

Gear:
Specialized gear that Shiba uses to prepare for specific operations includes climbing gear and/or breaking and entering gear, including nylon rope, a couple of pitons, flares, a crowbar, and both mechanical and automated lockpicks.

Special:
The unique piece of gear that Shiba currently has is a Towa Manufacturing ACR assault rifle, the weapon she relies on more than the other options. Has an innate smartlink function, and the integrated grenade launcher has been replaced with a shotgun instead for more precision and flexibility. Usually mounted with a red dot sight as a backup.

>//Lifepath

The raging of the Corporate Wars has rarely stifled the struggle between corporations, gangs, and other factions, within or without Night City. Each day is a struggle, and the only difference is whether it lies hidden in the shadows or bursts forth openly like an all-consuming flame. One relatively minor player in the prior decade was Mastiff Solutions, a private security company founded by Johanna Mastiff (not her birth name, but don't pry), a discontent former Danger Gal executive.

Frustrated at Danger Gal's dismissive hiring and enforcement standards towards abhumans, Mdm. Mastiff left in order to establish Mastiff Solutions in 2078, a competing private security and investigation firm that had what was a considerably more open recruitment policy towards abhumans and other marginalized groups, particularly national military veterans or refugees from other regions of the Americas. Quite ironically, Mastiff Solutions also held a policy of requiring field operatives to wear or be canine-themed paraphernalia, on top of being assigned names based on dog breeds. The formation of Mastiff Solutions naturally happened more or less in time for the Fifth Corporate War to break out, and Mastiff to become involved in protecting well-paying clients and their assets, particularly around the periphery of Night City.

One comparatively early recruit was one Ms. Leung, who joined Mastiff in the year 2083, having already seen combat on the side of NUSA. With few questions asked, Mdm. Mastiff took her in, dubbing her Shiba Inu and giving her the chance to fight to protect that which she would otherwise have tried in vain to crush at NUSA's behest (or that's how she phrased it). Things remained rough, but hopeful in the coming years, until Mdm. Mastiff passed away in 2090, leading a guerilla operation for which Mastiff Solutions had been contracted. Those in the know would say that while (Michiko) Arasaka had no hand in those events, both Danger Gal and its parent corporation appreciated the chance elimination of a scrappy barely-competitor that nevertheless had the temerity to bark in their face. After all, they could take any advantage they could get in their present state.

Indeed, even as the war wound down, Mastiff Solutions fractured as a corporation, the surviving operatives scattering and becoming lost in more ways than one. Zi-Kuen was, for her part, free again, with nothing tying her down (even if she was appreciative of it). Free to live her own life, to be her own person. And yet...she found that there wasn't a lot of places in the bright side of Night City for a former child solder and PMC operative with few other skills. But there were many opportunities for someone willing and able to cut throats and shoot faces. Even so, what was a hunter without a pack? While no longer a corporation, the Mastiff remnants formed into a loose alliance, rarely meeting face-to-face ever again but using the Net to share information on jobs, plan different phases of operations, and on rare occassion forming into packs of three or four to tackle bigger, better-paying jobs. Depending on who you ask, the Mastiff Gang are either an effective deterrent of trouble and vigilantes of sorts (an opinion not uncommon in Little China), or a protection racket and close to being outright a boostergang.

Nevertheless, being a veteran and the one who got the band back together so to speak, Zi-Kuen (or to them, Shiba), is something of a big sister of sorts, and the membership grows slowly but steadily. Now she prepares to tackle a job that seems routine, but may prove to be a turning point for her fate...

A somewhat lanky woman, imposing to some by virtue of her height. Slight but conspicuous bodysculpting has given her the ears of a Shiba Inu.

  • Doesn't use harder substances, but a heavy drinker of Smash and NiCola.
  • Listens mainly to splittercore and industrial music.
  • Has a separate social media presence that is cheery, friendly, and not linked to her known identity as Shiba Inu of the Mastiff Gang.
