darkness descending upon
swarming, stinging
gasping for breath
for life
slipping from lungs
slipping faster and faster
can’t see
can't breathe
it hurts
venom flowing
and nerves pulsing
heart pounding
as the toxin reaches
numb now
grandfather

little janey, such a pleasant child, lived on the end of the culd-e-sac of orchard hills. her happy disposition came from the way her mother pulled a brush through her sunny hair each morning, the way her father read her stories as soon as he came home from work, late into the night, in the quiet of their fenced backyard. it came from the raw love of her parents for her. the bardot’s lived a simple life, but a beautiful life nonetheless. though she was cherished by her parents when they were home, they worked tirelessly for long hours at their fabric store just down the road - bardot's fibers and filaments
the long work hours barely brought in enough money to support their home, but they just didn't have enough to pay a nanny for little janey. thankfully, grandfather stepped in to help his son care for his only daughter. quickly, the old man grew fond of the little girl. edison, his son, was never very interested in the hobbies of his father - gardening, but janey was. she enjoyed all of the little pockets of life grandfather found in the tomato garden, from wriggling worms to slithering snakes. he taught her how to identify the ripeness of a tomato, and wine it is ready to be plucked from the vine. jane's favorite part of the garden were the flowers the grew together in the corner of the yard. she adored the fuzzy honeybees that fluttered and buzzed around the lavender, tucking themselves in the crevices of the foliage to retrieve pollen. grandfather smiled at her fondly as she marveled at the busy workers. he called her his honeybee.
jane was six when she ventured out into the gardens. grandfather waved at her from the porch, digging through a small bin of gardening tools. when she came to the lavender patches, she frowned. the bees were not there. as grandfather busied himself, janey unlatched the fence and wandered into the orchards, attempting to find another patch of lavender that the bees may have decided to pollinate that day. after a while of walking through the rows and rows of apple blossom trees, her shoes cracked open an odd looking yellow rock with small holes. a bee floated up, delighting jane. the honeybee replied with a sting on the tip of her nose that smarted. she gasped and stumbled back. bees rose from the hive, swarming her. stings struck at her skin, injecting their venom into her bloodstream. the girl screamed, aching from pain and for her grandfather to battle the bees away. her heart gave from the overdose of bee venom, resulting in a heart attack at six years old. she fell into a deep sleep as she heard the pounding of her grandfather's footsteps sprinting toward her still body. jane awoke in a hospital bed several months later, alone and confused, sitting upright. a clear vase of daisies were on her bedside table with a small note tucked between the petals. a nursed appeared in the doorway, a surprised noise erupting from her throat. laughter? a gasp? jane sank back into her pillows, too dazed and tired to care. the nurse quickly disappeared, and she returned a few moments later with the doctor. after running numerous labs, tests, and scans, the doctors hadn't come to a conclusion on how she had healed so well. the doctor informed her that after the swarm, she had a heart attack, and was supposed to have passed. jane tried her best to understand, now that she was nearly seven. the heart attack was just one of many reasons she should have died, but she hadn't. when jane was brought to the hospital in an ambulance, her stings had rapidly begun healing before she had even made it into the emergency room. that day, she had completely healed herself within a few hours. she was in perfect health - but was still in a coma. during the months that she had fallen asleep, her mother had coped with her grief through isolation. she became a sadder and sadder woman each day that passed when her girl was still dreaming. she left her husband after months of arguing. grandfather now stayed in a retirement home, due to health concerns and old age. her father had stayed. he hadn't given up hope, even after months where it seemed like he had none; when it seemed like she wouldn't ever wake up - yet she did.

Jung-hee lived with her father, aunt, and several of her close cousins in what was basically a mansion. Her family owned a large farm that had been passed down for generations. Somewhere down the line, this helped kick-start their family business.
When she was a child, she would play in the fields with her older cousins and pet the farm animals. She was always the quiet and nonathletic one among them. She followed them around everywhere they went and always did what they asked. They were her brothers and sisters to her and sometimes they would push her around. But she later realized that that's what siblings do.
On the off chance that they weren't running around playing, Jung-hee and them would watch anime. They would often switch on several anime channels to watch their favorite series. It soon became a hobby for her and she would pick her own series to watch on her own time. As she got older, she became more engrossed in anime. She started drawing her favorite characters and tried her hand at animating.
Like most, teenage girls, she took interest in shoujo anime and the romance genre as a whole. While girls her age saw romance scenes and wanted to be the enchanted girl, Jung-hee wanted to be the enchanting prince. She wanted to be the one to steal people's hearts and sweep them off of their feet. She started imitating certain scenes she saw in the shows and tried it on her friends and family. It wasn't hard for this act to become her personality as she got older. She wasn't as much of a pushover as she used to be and she found it easier to talk to people.
When Jung-hee really got into art, she began posting her art online and she gained quite a bit of popularity from it. She started taking art classes in school and began striving to improve her work. She opened up commissions on her social media and received a handful of patrons. When she started making money from doing what she loved, she decided that it would be her future career.
Jung-hee's aunt took notice of her love for art and she tried to steer her away from it several times. She worried that she wouldn't be able to make a living off of it and suggested that she try something more practical. The two had a falling out because of this conflict and they often didn't get along. Despite her aunt's lack of support, she continued drawing, animating, and painting.
She later gained the support of her father after he noticed how much she wanted to become an artist. He stood by her and supported her dream while giving her advice on how to improve. She submitted several of her works to different art galleries and competitions. This later gave her more recognition as an artist and she received several art scholarships.
