The world of Aldain is governed by crystals.
Aldain is known as the world of crystals, and for good reason. From their emergence, humanity had been in harmony with the monument that call The Great Cryst. Humans began to bond and "resonate" with the nature of the crystals, and became dependent upon their power. Over time they began to use them, and the crysts began to influence them as well. The crysts began to grant certain humans magical abilities, and the ability to master the worlds natural flow of magic. Some individuals were further blessed with the ability to bend the will of crysts themselves. They are known as crystalborn. Crystalborn individuals have the ability to bond further with crysts, and urge them to grow into their full potential. Normal humans along with crystalborn began to build a civilization around The Great Cryst and crysts in general, leading them into a golden age of magically inclined technologies. Millennia later, they devised a near perfect utopian society. Soon after the formation of their utopia, disarray began to settle in. Radical shifts in power within humanity's society began to tear their civilization apart. The resulting war caused humanity to advance and become 3 different civilizations. The wealthy and more magically and technically inclined members of humanity began to create a new utopia, but not from the ground up; rather the sky. They built a floating utopia only open to the respected and even legendary members of humanity. The less inclined members of humanity were left to fend for themselves on the surface. Many crystalborn individuals were not accepted into the utopia due to their power, and man's fear of it. They stayed behind an rebuilt the world in an image of commerce and equality. Others were not so fortunate. Some crystalborn thought it was best to start humanity again from the remnants of war. They constructed a civilization of bronze, industry and mechanics. These three "provinces" are considered separate and are respectively called Skyward, The Surface and The Fringe. These three branches of humanity may have been separated by material interests, but were kept together by one thing....
