Death is no excuse for disobedience
Crystal Cove
Setting: today is the day of the March of the mermaids, a parade is set to start at noon and the fireworks will be as soon as it gets dark. Maybe people are getting ready and are already in costume. Store owners are deciding outside their shops and preparing carts to sell food and drinks to tourists. Some people have come from out of town to join in the festivities so the towns a bit more crowded than usual. A man went missing last night but due to the tourists the news isn’t reporting about the man who disappeared the night before, he was only mentioned briefly in the local newspaper that most people don’t read.

Octi
The night before
Mentions: Victim
Octi has been enjoying her nightly swim when she saw the small rowboat out on the ocean. It was her third time in this clans territory but she hadn’t met any scouts or warriors yet Small clans are always the easiest to infiltrate...but for now I need a snack I doubt they’ll mind if I take one.
Using her tentacles Octi slowly crept up the side of the boat before sitting at the far end away from the lone fisherman. He was an older gentleman hunched over his pole grey hair. She preferred either the incredibly young or the older humans anyways they were much more tender. Besides what old lonely fisherman could resist a younger temptress? Her tentacles changed into that of human legs, her transformation was a lot easier and faster than most.
”Catch anything?” she asked causing the man to jump he turned to look at the nude woman before quickly looking away. He made a few grumbled to himself as he fussed about her nudity before removing his jacket and throwing it to her. Octi groaned and flung it off.
”Look ma’am I’m not sure how you got on my boat but please cover yourself your indecent.” Octi stared in silent disbelief What the hell is wrong with this guy?!
”I was just looking for some fun, I do prefer the company of older gentlemen” she crawled to his side of the boat and began rubbing his arm when the old man suddenly shoved her off.
”Ma’am! I have been happily married for 42 years! I’m not about to let some random hussy ruin that. I don’t know how you got on my boat but I will gladly take you back to shore it’s dangerous to try to swim back.” he tried to deescalate the situation when Octi rose to her feet.
”You stupid human! How dare you reject me!” she growled as her legs began morphing back into their tentacle forms ”you disgusting old man! I would’ve made your last night on earth a fun one, a man like you would’ve been lucky to be with a woman like me!” the old man stared in shock before jumping overboard to try to escape the mermaid. Octi jumped after him and it was the last time he felt the embrace of the ocean alive.
After Octi had finished devouring the old man she swam back home eager to return the next night for another snack. A new human finger bone dangled from her necklace, all that was left of the old fisherman was his skeleton at the bottom of the ocean.
Erik
Mentions: Eleni, Claud
As much as Erik wanted to participate in crystal coves festivities there was a man who went missing last night and he had to go search for him. The man was named Elias Greene, he’d been married for 42 years and his wife said he went fishing out in his row boat every Friday. Erik walked out the front door and stared at the ocean scanning it for any sign of a boat. Sure enough there in the distance was a small brown dot. I need to take Claud out with me for this to be official police work. He walked back in checking the clock 7:30 AM time to go pick up his partner. He pulled out his phone to make a quick group text Everyone have fun at the festival today and stay safe! Call me or Eleni if you need anything. Most mornings he’d be stuck at work and it would just be Eleni with everyone. He hated leaving them but it was nice to spend time with Claud.
Heading your way, we’re taking the patrol boat out today. He texted Claud as he headed out the door and into his Jeep. He gave the bungalow a small wave as he drove off, Claud lived maybe 15 minutes away so he made it there by 7:45, turning off the engine he sat outside the humans home and waited for him to hop in the Jeep late as usual. He sat for a second before texting Eleni A human went missing last night, he most likely fell out of his rowboat and drowned but I’m going to investigate with Claud, I’ll let you know if anything seems suspicious. Erik sighed as he sent the text he hated to be the bearer of bad news and it was most likely nothing but he figured it’d be best if she knew.
Vivian
Mentions: Finley, Dennis
Vivian has woken up early that morning to go for a brief swim. She hadn’t gone out very far only to the areas that were about 3 ft deep, she’d hoped to collect some more sea shells for her costume but she didn’t find any more particularly nice ones. After a while she swam back to the beach and dried off growing back to her normal size she’d left a towel to cover up with not too far away and she quickly covered herself and headed inside quickly heading to her room. Unlike humans her skin didn’t feel super dry after being in the ocean and her hair didn’t matte up or dry crunchy.
She pulled out her mermaid bralette and grabbed her crown. Unlike Erik who didn’t approve of the mermaid festivals and costumes Vivian loved how they viewed mermaids. She also felt that by participating enthusiastically they just seemed more human.
Hey, are we hanging out today or do you two have plans? I want to show off my sick costume. she texted Finley and Dennis as she threw a jacket over her costume, and hid her crown in her purse. She didn’t really want the others to catch her getting all dressed up. At least not until the festival started. She walked into the kitchen and poured herself a bowl of cereal as she waited on her friends responses.
