Mitheral
"Growf!"
Just replace with intense blue eyes.

Professional author (under the pen name James Braxton)
Singing

Not a professional in any musical skills. He’s good, but lacks creativity. He’s a bit envious of those with real talent, though not in a negative way.
Strengths:
Likes helping people
Athletic (despite his injuries)
Generous
Weakness:
Hermit. He hates having friends. They are such a royal pain, always needing attention. (And then he sighs and accepts the inevitability of having friends.)
OCD (not extremely so. He’s not Sheldon from TBBT. But his books are arranged on his shelves by subject, alphabetized. When he buys groceries he organizes everything in neat rows and in set numbers - like 4 of everything. If bored he’ll start organizing everyone else’s stuff.) Likes to keep a routine and hates changes in his plans.
Likes:
Science and Technology
Science Fiction
Food (international, new, etc)
Teaching, tutoring, etc. Few things give him more pleasure than seeing the light come on in someone’s eyes when they finally understand a new concept.
Dislikes:
Bullies
Gangs, drugs, alcohol
Fears:
Demophobia (fear of crowds. He can speak to an audience. He can teach. He can play for a band. But for him to get to the middle of a dance floor and he will be on the verge of a panic attack. He will hover on the edge of the room.)
Arachnophobia (yes, if a tarantula dropped on his arm he will scream like a little girl)
He is otherwise fearless.
Quirks:
Workaholic
He doesn’t DO social media. No Facebook. No Twitter. No … what are some others?
Hates texting. My god. You have a phone in your hand. Use it maybe?
He sucks at all things computer. Oh he can use office software, CAD, math programs. But build a website? BBCodes? Download an App?
Hates being told he can’t do something (that noone could - permission is another thing altogether). It just makes him want to try. You may as well have dared him.
Bluntly honest. His friends know better than to ask him anything if they don’t want honesty. (He does try to be constructive. He can manage tact.)
Movies? He’s seen a few. But he’s missed out on a lot when he was younger.
Grew up with a very rough childhood - abuse and an older stepbrother in a gang. He just calls that time his “rough stretch.” It ended when he turned 16 and he has never looked back.
He had a talent for writing, in addition to his science and math skills. It was this talent that ended up paying for his college. He holds doctorates in Physics and Chemistry, plus a number of other lesser degrees and a teaching certificate. He has never taken a course in biology though. That doesn’t mean he lacks a love of oceanography.
His money has stemmed from several sources. Rental properties bought with some of the money from his books and a few patents. Royalties from patents. And a lottery ticket. It was the lottery ticket that has allowed him to “retire”. Well, he’s TRYING to retire anyways. He just keeps finding things to do and is always working on some new invention or theory.
He actually picked the location for its fanciful rumors about mermaids. But don’t expect him to believe they actually exist. Yes, he will be studying local marine life with underwater drones hoping to find the rational explanation for what people claim are mermaids… And yes, he is already reading all sorts of books on biology - and mythology. He’ll order most textbooks, but also hit the local library and newspapers.

Amphibious ATV’s (2 - red and blue like the pic)
Note: This is a scaled down version of the yacht in the specs - about ⅔ of the length. It needs no crew. (Max legal size that can be operated without a permanent crew is 30 meters, such as a Ferretti 960.) It still has the farms, but one is an aquaponic farm that is a constant state of failure… He does NOT have a green thumb. He has crew space for 2, not 8. Guest space for 2, not 10. He has two dolphin subs, favorite toys. One is always being tinkered with as he tries to upgrade them.
He will actually live on the yacht.

Athena Natsios
Age: 29 (Appears to be in her early 20’s)
Birthday: Mar 4
Gender: female
Orientation: Hetero
Relationship Status: Single
Species: Human (half mermaid)
Character alignment: Neutral (Evil)
Job: Oceanographer, writer, journalist
Height: 5’9”
Hair: very, very long to just below her waist. See Abilities.
Eyes: Sea green
Breathholding - typically about 4-5 minutes. But she can manage about 10 minutes.
Longevity - She isn’t certain about this one yet. She has yet to need to make a new name for herself.
Swimming - She can swim at speeds somewhere between those of a professional swimmer and a dolphin 5 mph cruising, 15 mph swimming hard. By contrast a strong swimmer can outswim a large shark at 6 mph. But a White shark can swim much faster at about 25 mph. Fastest fish would be a sailfish, which can manage an amazing 70 mph!!) Dolphins swim about 3-7 mph just cruising, about 20 mph swimming hard, and a little faster porpoising using the wake of a boat.
Living Hair - It actually moves a little even when she is still and curls close to her neck if there is danger nearby. It responds to her moods and even changes in weather - such as approaching storms. Cutting or pulling her hair causes her intense agony. There are nerves running through it. Cutting it is painful and usually involves getting very drunk. No, it can't grab things with any strength.
Can see clearly underwater - without a mask.
PhD in Oceanography
Fluent in Greek and English, modest fluency in Latin, some Italian and Turkish, a bit of ancient Greek and other dead languages of the Meditteranean.
Athena suffers from abandonment issues. She never knew her parents. But she has always been drawn to the sea.
She is very, very patient. But also temperamental, highly opinionated.
Likes:
Sea
Storms
Swimming
Sushi
Dislikes:
Mermaids
Water pollution
Pitch black darkness
Fears:
Being discovered for what she is - which makes her a bit of a hypocrite.
Deep dives - absolutely will not go on them.
Quirks:
Prefers sushi over cooked fish.
Never comfortable for long on dry land.
She was left at an orphanage as an infant with nothing more than a bracelet made from seashells with the name Athena on it. She was raised by the Greek orthodox church and eventually adopted by an archaeologist and his wife when she was 9. Their boat was sunk during a storm out at sea when she was 14. She believes she saw something she still can’t explain. (Mermaids?)
She travelled to America to go to college at the University of Miami. Ironically she received a full ride scholarship through the Vanguard Foundation (founded by James Braxton).
