Badum, badum, badum. The barking noises of rubble road pelted sturdy iron. A compact jeep, military grade, puttered forth along dense country highway. A series of several other research vehicles trailed slowly behind. Plumes of thick, shadowed smoke belched forth from stained exhausts; filling the air and piercing the otherwise clear sky. In the distance, a thin column steadily took its shape. A once thin needle on the horizon gradually grew wider and taller as the vehicles neared. Such a mystical sight it was, yet something ominous seemed to peer beneath the surface of its lanky silhouette. Hendrick let out and abrupt sigh, his tired eyes surveying the lush vegetation through muddied windows. His head firmly perched in his palm; his elbow flush against the armrest on the door. “I feel like we have been in this damn tin can for hours now…” A wordy whisper just loud enough for anyone else to hear. “I gotta piss at some point. Hey rook, stop the car will ya?” The stress of his voice echoed throughout the car. The driver furrowed his brow, glancing back through the rear-view mirror. “I can’t do that brotha! Not without causing the whole convoy to tumble. These roads are treacherous.” A glimpse of defeat waved of Hendrick’s pale visage; disappointment setting in as he re-positioned himself near the window. “Fine, we should be there soon anyways.”
Things sure were looking up. It’s not everyday one gets to delve into the unknown. Various stories about this location appeared in scripture, some dating back centuries. The small detail missing from the various pages, however, was the tower. Nothing mentioned the building or the fact that it towered higher than any modern construction in existence. The only way to know for certain would be to explore the realm first hand. A couple of handpicked scientists were meant to set forth into the mystery, Hendrick being one of them. A former S.W.A.T, he was designated to providing protection as well as first aid. After all one could never be too cautious, especially when the unknown is involved.
“ETA in 15 minutes!” The driver voice belted out as the radio relayed the information prior. The sheer size of the skyscraper made the once full structure disappear from immediate view. One had to crook their neck backwards at an alarming degree to even see the top. Hendrick peered with excitement, fastening utility belt securely to his waist. “Well, here goes nothing.”
