Esther sighed as she sat outside the wall of the area that protected the school, a line of trees that ran perfectly out in a random forest in the middle of Canada. Funny, she wouldn't think a place like Canada would house monsters and dangers.... Then again, they did breed the world's most messed up criminals. She rolled her eyes at that thought as she shoved her hands in her hoodie pockets, shivering at the cold wind stereotypical to Canada.
She was wearing the school uniform, a black T-shirt (though slightly baggier than what most girls would go for, to be honest), a knee-length black skier, and solid purple leggings, showing her status as a quarter blood, as opposed to the full blood's red, the pink (blue for the boys) of a half, or the black of an eighth or lower. She had donned her red fuzzy hoodie and her black fur boots, which she scuffed against the snow.
Besides her, a tall, middle aged female with a stern face and stiff back posture stood in a Business suit that seemed hardly appropriate considering the weather. Esther, however, guessed that the woman, the Headmistress, was a were animal of some sort, definitely one with fur. The two were waiting for the other one of their group to appear, so they could travel through the door.
Tension filled the air, as not even Esther could deny she was the least bit nervous. Apparently, according to the Headmistress, the school almost never took on new students in the middle of the year. Esther had been accepted considering her circumstances, and her records of her previous attack. She had yet to discover what her companion had been accepted at such a late time for, but the Headmistress said he was dire to the future of the Monster world, something about 'foundations'.
As if on cue, a teenage boy with dark brown hair and green eyes Esther could just drown in stumbled up the hill, wearing nothing but his uniform, a long-sleeved black shirt(Oh, so he was less than an eighth, or exactly that...) and grey pants with black shoes. Esther seriously questioned this dress code, but figured it had something to do with comfort, causality, yet a uniform look... He seemed to make it work, as his slight, lean frame made the clothes seem baggier.
Spade coughed as he fell to his knees, panting for breath. The traveling witch had left him in the middle of the nearest town, so he had to run here. His lungs weren't used to the cold weather, or the exertion he had just pushed himself through. He could feel the two pairs of eyes on his back, and immediately stood back up,"I'm sorry, Headmistress, I had to run here."
The Headmistress frowned, before she shook her head,"My apologies, Mister Spineret, but Charlotte has always been a lazy witch. She may be brilliant, but she's still rude enough to let a Foundation like you run in this weather." Spade rubbed the back of his head sheepishly,`"N-No, it is fine, I needed the exercise to warm up for the rest of the day..."
The Headmistress's stern expression melted as she laughed," Well, we can't 'warm up' in this weather, can we? We shall head off, then!"
With that, Spade and Esther followed the woman as she pulled out a key from her pocket, and stuck it in the hollow of a tree. A portal opened from the hollow, pulling in the three in a flash of light. When the flash cleared away, they stood in a balmy area, where a large stone castle stood, surrounded by students of every age. "Welcome to your new home, kids. This is where you will stay, until you graduate and move into an assigned building in the new monster realm. "
Esther looked around, impressed as she shed her coat. Spade looked wide eyed at the castle, his eyes sparkling. The Headmistress handed them two pamphlets,"As I'm running a tight schedule, which Charlotte ruined, I have to leave you two to it. Your dorm information, as well as your schedules, identification, and so on are in here. I will leave you to it."
As the woman walked off, so did Esther, flipping through her pamphlet. However, Spade just stared at the castle, feeling anxiety prick under his skin.
