Creating Art

Savagai

The Weirdo
Hello, o/

I was looking at some threads and saw amazing art, mostly anime (i guess)

I was just wondering, how can I make this art also? I'd really like to make pictures of my Characters.

Is there some kind of program who you need to download to create this?

Savagai

Really, you don't need any programs, you need patience, ambition and willingness to learn. I advise drawing from real life reference and studying muscle structures. There's not really a on/off switch when it comes to learning something. You can't snap your fingers one day and decide "I'm gonna paint like DaVinci" or "I'm gonna compose like Beethoven"

The people you talk about have definitely been drawing for a while, at least a year or two me thinks. If you need resources tho, I can point you in some directions

Yeah, some useful links about how to start would be nice @Aldur
You should look up Draw with Jazza and Proko (Stan Prokopenko) on Youtube. They both explain things pretty well and have tutorials on muscle groups and all. There is also Xia Taptara who tries to explain how to do concept art and backgrounds. One more thing is to observe work from your favorite artists and "steal" from them until you develop your own style.

there is also sycra on youtube who is quite good at explaining things and he has quite a lot of "beginner" videos where he explain the use of shapes, how to draw correct proportions and lots more helpful stuff.

and

(2 videos i personally enjoy from him)
Also even tho you probably dont need it right now cause you probably dont have a drawing tablet i want to mention Krita wich is a free drawing software that is very good and it's one of my main drawing programs i use personally.

This "Krita", can you also use it without a drawing tablet?

the short answer is yes, the longer and more dissapointing one is yes, you can use a mouse but a mouse dont register pressure sensitivity. so straight up drawing is difficult without a tablet :T.

but you can still use it to edit photos and images different colors and styles.

i did this in like 10 minutes laying on my stomach with a mouse(so if you really focuse and sit up straight this shouldnt be to hard with a bit of practice)

atm i would recommend just drawing on paper with a pencil, that was what i did when i was your age and trying to figure out how to draw, its a bit frustrating and boring to do it but i promise you that it will help you in the long run.

Of course! How could I forget about Sycra? He also has a few videos on artist's block and a series where he critiques art he is sent by fans.
