hiii! i'm a multimedia artist in university in italy. i've been doing homebrew dnd stuff for about 5 years now (woah) and for the past 6 months ive been working on a custom campaign set in a fictional world where everything is a literal stageplay based off of renaissance/medieval europe and the main gimmick is COIN FLIPS instead of DICE ROLLS. it's kind of roleplay-heavy since it has a focus on social strategy but i try to tailor sessions to meet the strengths of individual players. i'm an art major and i put a LOT of thought and effort into my writing.

i would like the bar for entry to be kind of low and non-commital. inputs/responses can be as short or as long as they need to be. you can play a character as many times as you want and have as many characters as you want, and there aren't many limits on what sort of character you can play as long as they fit within the lore of the game and the worldbuilding. playing a human is definitely the most optimal choice, but there's some other interesting species populating the world alongside humans ⬇️

here's my pitch:

1117 N.E. is, strangely enough, the year of the rinascimento. It is also the year of crusades, revolution, colonization, and enlightenment... Or so says the pen of the Playwright. What IS a person to do when they're aware that their entire existence is as an actor in a play that has recurred over and over one billion times? Characters in a story are bound to a life of conflict. That is what drives the plot, after all. How an individual chooses to handle this knowledge is entirely up to them. Some go mad, but for everyone else...

in fair Picciogna, we lay our scene! In combination with Colombano on the eastern side of the Mare Infinito, it is a continent that encompasses 7 separate culturally-distinct countries, each of which faces their own unique dilemma. Norgraad struggles to fulfill its dream of manifest destiny and tame the wild frontier... Azadi is a region ruled by a distant Caliphate under attack by the church... The Beatific States, under the heel of the Magisterium, flounders in the wake of its ruler's sudden disappearance... Even Mercevilles is dealing with something. (Government currently being overthrown by sentient cats)

There are 7 distinct countries, all with their own unique cultures and languages and governments. Although they're all very complex in their own rights, they could be reasonably simplified as:
MERCEVILLES, a frankish country in the westernmost region of Picciogna. Famous for cats, cakes, and coup d'états.
THE BEATIFIC STATES, an italic country in central Picciogna and western Colombano famous for wine, religion, and crusades.
REGNO DI CITTÁMARE, an italic country at the southernmost point of Picciogna famous for pasta, honour, and carnivals.
NORGRAAD, an anglo-slavic country in northern Picciogna (the largest of them all) famous for weird traditions, tundras, and harsh conditions.
CALPEGNA, a hispanic country in northwestern Picciogna famous for dragons, relics, and dances.
DELMARISE, a germanic country, the smallest on the continent, at the southernmost tip of Colombano. Known for cows, farming crops, and having a collapsed government.
AZADI, an arabic country that is part of a much larger empire located in central Colombano. It's known for its libraries, progressive laws, and lavash.

Picciogna and Colombano are anything BUT normal. There are wizards, sentient plants and animals, unfortunate souls with curses worse than anything your feeble human mind could dream up. But where does that leave YOU?! You are a sentient being with a soul. That's what makes you special. Your soul is split into 5 parts like a pomegranate... (Personality, identity, shadow, form, and heart) Each seed is an aspect of your identity! Something very bad would happen if you were to lose any part of your soul. Try not to.

The nice thing about having a soul is being able to flip coins and affect the world around you with your abilities.

Anything is possible when it comes to your abilities. The sky's the limit! Though, no matter what, every soul has a special ability called an ENVOI that can only be activated when you reach navia aut caput (death saving throws). An envoi is a person's final stand... Their soul's last, desperate attempt to save itself. Though it may very well prevent a person from dying, it I will permanently alter them in a way that is both unique and devastatingly personal. It may only activated once and will push a person their absolute limits. It's usually the worst thing that could possibly happen to that person specifically... They will never be the same again.

OTHER MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION:

- status effects are a very wide category. some of them are temporary (the most common of those being buffs/debuffs gained from passing and failing certain checks; INSPIRED, DISCOURAGED, MOXIE, INTIMIDATED etc.) while others are permanent or conditional like curses, spell/potion effects, and even things like sanguine intoxication or vampirism.

- for reference, 3-5 heart points is the most common build for the average person

- occupations and life experiences may provide bonuses for certain checks. for example, a doctor would have a bonus on perceptio while examining a person, an archivist would have a bonus on herinnering when recalling historical facts/information, so on and so forth

- this game works off a custom system of different schools of magic which encompass different skills and qualities. i won't go into much depth about it here, but the 6 schools are pyromancy, haematurgy, alchemy, artificism, psychokinesis, and gnosis. let me know if you would like to know more about this aspect...

- EVERY PERSON is aware of the playwright's existence and the fact that they are in a play. there is no exception to this... every character's opinion on her is important for some hidden stats that i have to fill out and keep track of

NOTE: i am an adult, and while this campaign will NOT have any nsfw, keep in mind that it would be kind of weird for me to play with minors. 18+ preferably... if you pull any funny business i will remove you from the campaign and block you unfortunately no cap

let me know if you are interested or have any questions! this is the most simplified explanation i could think of - i can go into WAAAAY more detail about the lore and mechanics where needed. this forum was recommended to me and it is my first time posting here so i am a bit nervous

At quick glance this looks quite interesting. When I have more time tonight I'll look over the character creation notes better and see if I can come up with a character for this.
