It was late afternoon when Marlton Johnson hopped back onto the decrepit bus, DSR in hand. A few zombies limped toward the once-scientist, but they were at an adequate distance, and he saw no reason to worry. A year or so ago, when the Earth was still intact and undead-free, he would have been wary of humans at that distance. Now, if still prevalent, his mysophobia had been shrunk by pure survival instinct.
The vehicle lurched into motion before Marlton had a chance to check who was on board, but the lack of scraping and heavy zombie footsteps behind him was enough to tell him that any passengers were still very alive. He kept his sniper pointed out the front windows as the diner grew distant behind the bus. He was still too far away to see the next stop, but the claustrophobe kept his eyes on the scenery. One could never tell where the next horde would spring up.
