The Knowledge Keeper Apprentice is chosen at 6 years by the Knowledge Keeper, can be male or female. They can sit in on meetings with the leaders but their opinions aren't really valued much.
Medics:
Responsible for healing the injured and sick members of the pack, mostly sub but sometimes dominants. This rank is often sought by females, rarely males. They work underneath the Knowledge Keeper. Duties include collecting herbs and keeping healing supplies in stock, healing injured and sick members, taking care of orphaned pups. Medics are responsible for healing both physical and mental issues of the pack members. They must be compassionate and yet stern with their patients for the patient might insist they are fine and try to go back to work when they aren't ready. It is the job of the Medics to ensure their patients are able to rest in comfort and safety until they get better. If they think a wolf isn't well enough to work, they must inform one of the leaders.
Pursuer:
They lead hunts and when a large game animal is taken down, howl to alert the rest of the pack to the kill site. They are expert farmers and hunters, able to take down large game and excellent trackers as well as being able to read weather patterns. They are an expert in tracking and killing prey. They lead patrols around the territory, ensure the borders are maintained, and responsible for greeting visitors and showing them around the pack as well as making sure that any wolf who enters the territory doesn't have hostile intentions.
Sentinels:
Hunters and Scouts of the pack. A mixture of sub and dom, male or female.
Responsible for providing food for the pack, patrolling the territory, keeping an eye on the migrating herds, relaying messages and do weekly patrols, marking the borders. They must also be able to grow crops and tend to fields from sowing to harvesting and gathering. Sentinels also look for new hunting grounds and keep track of the migrations of the herds as well as defending any new hunting grounds they see. In times of hardship they may end up hunting several times a week to ensure the pack has food. They must go into other pack territories and the human territories to get information which is then given to one of the leaders. Sentinels must be intelligent and emphatic, agile and cunning as they need these skills to survive. They are feared within the pack for their ability to use the shadows to their advantage.
Condottiere
The war captain of the pack, they train the Guardians. They excel in combat and battle techniques as well as being good strategists. The Condottiere is responsible for planning battle tactics and advising the alpha and beta on the best plans of attack. They take on the most dangerous jobs for the alpha. They are masters of stealth and killing, usually entrusted with killing opposing alphas and betas. The Condottiere is also in charge of assassinating prisoners and wolves who have planned mutiny against the leaders. They are tasked with ensuring the Guardians also make sure that the pack members keep themselves out of trouble, and that no fights break out between visiting wolves (or other pack members), warning them of the rules. After the warning, the Condottiere may penalize continually aggressive or provoking wolves of the pack. If this does happen they are to report to the alpha or beta and tell them what happened. They are the most experienced fighter after the leaders.
Guardians:
Warriors and Guards of the pack. Always dominants, male or female, often large dom males strive for this rank. They are responsible for defending the territory and guarding the pack/pups. They are able to arrest "Interlopers" and allowed to carry weapons on them. They must be keen and discerning as well as cunning and sly. They are chosen for their strength, dominance and commitment. They know where their loyalties lie and aren't afraid to shed blood in order to protect the pack. hey must not be afraid of spilling blood and having their own shed, ready to lay their lives on the line. They are respected and feared for their loyalty, their strength and their sacrifice by all pack members. They may be gone for many moons and are expert trackers, fighters and hunters. They kill who they are told, no matter the age of the victim, with no questions asked and know where their loyalties lie. A few choice members of the Guardians act as the secret police and these few are feared by the lower ranks for it is generally unknown who the secret police are within the pack.
Custodians:
Wolves, male and female, who choose not to pursue a rank but aren't timid enough to be omegas. They're responsible for watching pups and schooling them, responsible for chores and often being given the responsibility of raising orphans. Not having a rank, Custodians end up fulfilling in whatever rank is needed. Thus they have a bit of training in each rank. They are fiercely defensive of pups and will often fight to the death to protect them. However if a pup gets lost or hurt they are hold accountable should the pup have been under their care at that time. This is the next step up for pups when they turn 12-years-old where they serve for four years, they must prove themselves to get a better rank.
Pups:
The youngsters of the pack, they sometimes have their own pecking order. Are male and female, often born into the pack but sometimes brought in. No real duties but to learn and play, ranks are chosen depending on if they are dom or sub. They begin learning hunting and fighting techniques at eight-years-old. Can also be used as a way to punish rule breakers, starting rank for newcomers. Omegas are wolves that have no real skills that qualify them for any other rank. They are fiercely defensive of pups and will often fight to the death to protect them. However if a pup gets lost or hurt they are hold accountable should the pup have been under their care at that time. This is the next step up for pups when they turn 12-years-old where they serve for four years, they must prove themselves to get a better rank.
Pups:
The youngsters of the pack, they sometimes have their own pecking order. Are male and female, often born into the pack but sometimes brought in. No real duties but to learn and play, ranks are chosen depending on if they are dom or sub. They begin learning hunting and fighting techniques at eight-years-old. When a pup turns 12-years-old, they become a Custodian.
Elders:
Retired members of the pack due to injury or old age. They may not be fed during lean times but are more or less respected for their wisdom.
They're taken care of by the omegas. An Elder's opinion is greatly respected throughout the pack, being adviser to the leaders. They are asked to be role models to the pack, adults and pups included, and also to visitors, showing them the way of the pack. They express maturity in their thoughts and actions during serious discussion or conflicts and help out where ever they can. The Elders linger in the background when it comes to pack affairs; they voice their opinions and concerns when they feel it is necessary with the utmost respect to their leaders.
Omegas:
Always subs, male and female, the weaklings of the pack. A position of shame for any pack member, this member or members are socially shunned, though their offense was not large enough to call for banishment or death. Can also be used as a way to punish rule breakers, starting rank for newcomers. Omegas are wolves that have no real skills that qualify them for any other rank. Omegas eat last and may not be fed during lean times. They help watch the pups, responsible for taking care of the elders, cooking, chores, and doing shopping for food. Act as the pack's punching bags and responsible for relieving stress and tension, initiating play and serving as peacekeepers and mediators. They only watch pups until they turn 12-years-old. Omegas have a lot of spare time and usually go hungry if there is a food shortage.
