AND THE STARS DID WANDER
A million stars should have stretched across the night sky, but when she lifted her head to gaze upon it, there was nothing more than a cold, dark abyss where the horizon met a hungering void that threatened to swallow it whole.

welcome to my pit. my pit of disorganized rambling, random ideas, and an unhealthy amount of projectile word vomit. you've got a lot of reading ahead of you, so let me cut to the chase.
I'm looking for one (1) RP partner tohold hostagesubject to my cyberpunk, apocalyptic, or otherwise dystopian RP setting GMing. Yes, you read that right. I want you to let me GM an RP for you. What does that entail? Well, for you, not a whole lot. You just have to write a single character that's at least mildly interesting, and unless you actually enjoy worldbuilding or plotting, I'll take care of the rest for you.
That probably sounds very unhinged considering that most other people are desperately searching for GMs, but for the most part, I simply want to write in a setting that most people are too scared to because they're not familiar enough with it. Consider it my way of giving beginners to these types of genres a no-stakes entry point. You don't have to be a beginner, of course. Anyone willing to put effort in is welcome.
sound interesting? well shoot keep on clicking to those other tabs, then
First and most importantly: I am a very busy person. On top of a 20 credit hour semester for an intense program, I also juggle commissions, editing, coding, and working on solo projects. I will not be able to respond you to constantly, and sometimes not even consistently. I will always do my best to keep you updated, of course, but if you expect daily replies, I am not your person. In the best case scenario, I will post once a week. I will, however, be available for OOC talk most of the time.
Other than that, I've been RPing for 8-9 years, most of which was spent in a GM role. Outside of RP, I also work on my own novels and IFS series. I typically write at a college level, and you can expect most of my posts to range from 800-4000+ words.no, that wasn't a typo. I focus heavily on building the world through exposition, the thoughts and feelings of my characters, and atmosphere in general. To me, RP is more than bonking two characters together—I like to develop not just the characters, but the plot, setting, and story as a whole.
There's really not much else to know about me. Cyberpunk, dystopian, and retrofuturistic settings as a whole are sort of my 'special interest' (for my NTs, iykyk). I like learning, especially when it comes to technical knowledge. I enjoy teaching, too. We don't gatekeep knowledge around here.
To get it out of the way early: I do have ASD and AVPD. I'm a pretty straightforward/direct person, and sometimes I may word things in a way that other people interpret as being rude, condescending, or otherwise unacceptable. If I say something that offends you, please politely tell me and I will correct myself. I never intentionally try to be mean—tone is difficult for me to get a good hold of. If I switch to smallcaps/typing like a lil chimp, this is why. It helps me be a little more approachable.
WRITING SAMPLES AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST
I really don't expect a whole lot from you. For the most part, all I ask is that you're patient, open to trying new things, and willing to communicate with me on what you want. You also need to be 17+, as I'm 21 and uncomfortable with interacting with anyone younger.
If I ask you, 'what would you like to see in this RP? how do you feel about taking the plot in this direction?', I will be happy with any answer that isn't 'idk' or 'whatever u prefer'. I like to operate on the rule of 'yes, and (elaborate)' or 'no, but (elaborate)'. You will never offend me or hurt my feelings by telling me how you feel. In fact, I encourage it. I struggle to read between the lines and interpret whether you're enjoying it or not otherwise.
...and that's about it. You don't need any prior knowledge, any fancy character sheets, or a PhD in 'what makes a robot arm work'.
I guess it would also be nice to have a way to get in touch with you OOC that isn't RPN because I don't check here every day, but that's not required if you're not comfortable.
Let's make this quick. To recap:
- Posts on a once-per-week basis, sometimes more frequently, often longer
- Romance very unlikely; no explicit 18+ content (you know what I mean)
- I write big posts; you need to be comfortable with that. Post length matching NOT required, but writers who can at least partially match are more likely to be compatible long-term
- I have no limitations/boundaries on content, but ideally you should tell me yours in your introduction
- My characters are almost always premade, and can and will be reused in other RPs
- OOC communication not required but a plus
- Ghosting is completely fine. I don't care. You can come back at any time, no questions asked. I'm too old to give a damn.
- To tell me you've read and understood these rules, tell me about your favorite book, movie, or game. :]
General Dystopian/Light Cyberpunk
- A family in Louisiana struggles to maintain their claim over the highly sought after land that's been in their name for generations. As more and more corporations move in, they find themselves surrounded by the vultures swooping in and industrializing the swamps around them. When the family matriarch passes away under suspicious circumstances, the deed goes missing and all hell breaks loose.
YC could be a detective, family friend, or even a corporate agent that gets tangled up in this mess. Inspired by NORCO and the Chemical Valley of the real world. Set in the 1970s with light cyberpunk themes, but overall a relatively lower tech setting. Small possibility for romance if your character is NB/F.
Typical Cyberpunk Settings
When a serial killer that murders by hijacking the neural networks of their victims strikes the city of Nexylon, investigators must rush to uncover the culprit before more lives can be taken. With no clear pattern and no evidence trail to follow, it seems as though all hope is lost—until the killer gets sloppy and leaves behind the first clues. They may be even deeper over their heads than they ever thought.
YC is, preferably, either a detective, law enforcement officer, witness, or otherwise involved in the case. Inspired by Shadows of Doubt and Technobabylon. Set in the 1990s with the typical cyberpunk themes and focus on a dystopian vibe, but not quite at the tech level where androids, space travel, or other high-level sci-fi concepts are present. Cyborgs are rare and cybernetics are unrefined or otherwise 'crude'/'primitive'.
- I don't have a developed plot for this one since it's more of a dynamic. YC is a young, aspiring netrunner, hacker, or other type of computer nerd that wants to be like the legendary cyberspace stars they've read about in all of their books. MC is a grumpy old shithead that's been doing this for decades and is determined to convince YC out of it. MC is one of those legends, and unfortunately for YC, they're not as exciting as YC might have thought.
Potential ideas for this include: YC screws up and tries to hack MC, YC runs into some big trouble by accident and tries to find MC to get them out of it, or for a very simple plot, YC just wants some help and tries to convince the big, angry cyborg to show them the ropes.
Tech level and setting is completely adaptable.
Don't see anything that interests you? Ask. I will be more than happy to work something out with/for you. The worst I can do is say I'm not interested.- A family in Louisiana struggles to maintain their claim over the highly sought after land that's been in their name for generations. As more and more corporations move in, they find themselves surrounded by the vultures swooping in and industrializing the swamps around them. Congratulations. You've either made it through the marathon and deserve a round of applause, or you've simply clicked on this tab hoping to get a TL; DR.
If you've read through all of this and are somehow still interested, please DM me, don't comment. I will ignore any comments made in the thread. Please introduce yourself, tell me what plot (if any) you're interested in, and tell me anything else you think I should know.
