Vices:
stuck up | coming from a wealthy family that doesn't have any room for imperfection, it's easy for her to have a stuck up attitude towards things that are 'beneath' her. she doesn't like doing many muggle things as they feel cheap and rather depressing in her eyes. if someone doesn't meet her expectations as a witch or wizard, you can see her expression change to one of annoyance and borderline disgust. she is trying to fix this but she cannont lower her standards at all.

perfectionist | failure isn't an option in her family so naturally, she doesn't enjoy it when she doesn't succeed perfectly. if she finishes something and it's less than perfect, she will be in a terrible mood and look ready to curse someone. it's embarrassing to her and has transferred to other parts of her life, including her appearance. she is very strict with how she conducts herself and even what she eats, scared of looking less than perfect.

lustful | this is a trait that seemed to develop when she blossomed into a rather popular student for her good looks. she discovered that it was fun to mess around with those she had no interest in dating and it gave her relief. now she doesn't really pay attention to the relationship status of her partners which can cause a lot of trouble for everyone involved.

judgemental | quick to judge those who don't fit the mold of the ideal person, she tends to make her opinions of others known. she tries not to be too rude when going about it, but occasionally comments slip out while she's talking to her friends. not much of a gossip, but her thoughts on a person tend to swiftly spread around the school until they become rather harsh rumors. the worst ones are often about how a student dresses or eats as she was raised with such strict expectations and therefore places them on those around her.

Virtues:
brave | every Gryffindor is brave, that's what makes them so stupid. this was the mindset of the girl until she was put into a situation that required her to stand up when nobody else would and bravely stare the 'enemy' in the eye without a sliver of fear. while she isn't rash or impulsive with her bravery, there's no denying that she will stand up when nobody else will and she will, in the end, do what she thinks is right.

intelligent | much like her uncle, maura holds a very bright mind and is constantly needing to nurture it with new information. she seems to know everything about anything you can think of, even something as complicated as ancient magic or runes. while she doesn't show off her intelligence or even uses it as much as she should, it is something that has saved her on more than one occasion and even caused her house to receive points.

Thoughts on the upcoming War: "this is something i was taught to expect when i was a little girl. it was always whispered about in my family and everyone seemed to know exactly when he would come back and when his war would begin. rather than being scared or shocked by it, i'm more worried about the countless lives that are going to be lost and the fact i will have to choose between my family and my friends."

Thoughts on the Chosen One: "it must be rather difficult knowing you're the only thing standing between you-know-who and the rest of the world. plus they are quite annoying don't you think?"

right from the moment she was born, arlo knew that he would love his daughter unconditionally. she was so bright and pretty to look at, her blue eyes practically sparkling. as the girl grew older, arlo made sure to teach her all about the family values and rules which naturally led to her learning dark magic. he was determined for his daughter to follow in the footsteps of her older siblings. however, since she was sorted into Gryffindor there has been a strain on their relationship, mainly because he blames himself for her failures.

maura's mother is one of the only ones in the family that openly fought against the decision to mark her daughter as a traitor. she had a soft spot for the young maura as she knew that somehow the girl was different from every other child of hers. she was kind and thought of what would make corliss happy, not what would make her happy. the pair are very close and corliss will do whatever it takes to protect her children and maura is no exception.

Aggressive | While fighting isn't something he enjoys doing, he has a very aggressive attitude. He is quick to get in your face if he's set off and doesn't cool off quickly. His words rival those of the Blacks and he is often left alone because of this.

Jean wasn't old enough to remember the time spent with his mother which is something that depresses him greatly. Despite this, he is well aware of the fact that he was loved unconditionally by her and she protected him with her life. He wishes that he was able to remember her or at least was able to be with her long enough to form lasting memories. Through her various journals and stories spread around the school, he is very familiar with what Marlene was like and is bothered by the fact he may be disappointing her with the way he acts.

A very cold dark witch, Jean never enjoyed her company but also hated to disappoint her. She was extremely powerful and while she wasn't a Rosier by blood, she certainly is the reason the family itself is still so reputable in Britain. She was always strict when it came to Jean and was the one who locked the boy up inside the house and stated he was far too sickly to do anything other than reading books and learn all he could about all manner of magic. She views him as a son in some way, so the pressure is always there when he is at home.

The cousin of Marlene and one of the reasons that Jean is still alive. He is warmer than his wife and far less cutthroat but he doesn't often share those sides of himself with Jean. Since the boy resembles his parents so much, Julien often keeps his distance, knowing very well that Jean's personality is similar to Sirius' but more twisted due to the influence of Iris. They have a tense relationship that Jean doesn't care to fix.

His childhood bully, Aimee never liked Jean and made that very apparent from the beginning. While she's an extraordinary witch herself, being head girl of ravenclaw and winning basically every award known to wizardkind, she found jean to be something like a bug and constantly would ruin whatever he was working on. if she saw him working in books she would hide them all immediately or she would cause his potions to blow up. she doesn't know why she dislikes him so much, but he simply makes her skin crawl.

noel is the closest to jean in age, being two years older than him. he didn't dislike him as much as aimee but he was jealous of the time he spent with iris, feeling like she favored him over her own son which angered him. he never did take this out on his cousin, but rather on his mother. noel helped him learn non-verbal magic and how to do it in school without getting caught. ultimately he led to jean's troublemaking ways.

Marlene McKinnon was a witch beyond her years in terms of magic. An auror of incredible abilities, she was one of the brightest stars that came from Hogwarts. Sorted into Gryffindor, she was best friends with James Potter and made it known that she would be one of the more outspoken students. Her reputation spread like wildfire, the dirty blonde getting into trouble and doing things that nobody else would do, such as be a seeker in her first year of school. She was popular, beloved by everyone that befriended her, and feared by those who hurt her friends. She was the face of gyrffindor and showed the true colors of the house and the morals. despite her very flighty romantic history, she was someone who had a lot of love to give to those around her. except when it came to sirius black.

sirius black, a wild troublemaker and part of the marauders, he knew how to make marlene's skin crawl and get her worked up over seemingly nothing. he was the first of all the blacks to be sorted into Gryffindor and he wore the crest with pride. he landed himself in detention more times than he could count and was often getting into fights just to stick up for james or remus. however, he found that it was easier to be himself around marlene and eventually he opened up to her, after he ran away from home that is. she had been staying at the potter's when sirius knocked on the door, drenched from the rain. when she saw him, her icy exterior that was always there when he was around, melted instantly and she found herself hugging the boy, not even bothering to ask what had happened.

from that moment on, marlene and sirius became close and soon enough they were sneaking around and dating. they skipped classes, lied to their friends, did whatever they could to spend time together. neither family approved of their relationship, even regulus would make snide comments about it despite being friends with marlene himself. even the girl's parents hated the fact they were together, yelling at marlene for getting involved with a black and that it would only lead to her own destruction. however, the pair stayed together, despite the fair share of breakups they had. they had something that was unknown to both of them and they were desperate to keep it alive. their world changed towards the end of their seventh year when marlene told sirius that she was pregnant. it was terrifying for the couple as they knew such news could mean marlene would be disowned as well.

immediately upon graduating, sirius went to work, as did marlene, hiding her pregnancy for as long as possible. the two of them made enough money to rent a flat. it was then that marlene grew tired of living paycheck to paycheck and confided in her mother, explaining the situation. a deal was struck between the mckinnon household and sirius black that very night. they agreed that the pair would get married and they would live somewhere protected, far from the war so they could raise their child in peace. this was when her mother presented the young couple with a house in the highlands, high up on a cliff, the ocean raging below. it was secluded but nothing had felt more like home to the pair. they settled there nicely and had their first and only child, jean arcturus black.

while his childhood with marlene and sirius was short, it was filled with every ounce of love that was in the universe. his parents were both working for the order, marlene having established herself as a prominent auror with a very promising career. they lived each day as if it was their last, keeping the flames of their love alive and their son protected from those who would harm him. eventually, their time together came to an end when marlene publically announced her alliance with the order of the phoenix. two weeks passed since her announcement and she knew that her life was in danger but she still decided to take a risk. her youngest brother had been murdered and the family was holding a funeral at the mckinnon estate, so naturally, she went, taking her two-year-old son with her.

while there, death eaters and Voldemort himself showed up and attacked, killing every mckinnon before they could leave. it was terrifying and with her child bundled up in her arms, marlene did everything in her power to fight back and eventually she was struck as she disapparated from the house to her own home. the curse worked its way slowly through her body, filling her with unimaginable pain, but still, she managed to tuck her son into bed, whispering a soft spell to help him sleep. the life was slowly drained out of her and she attempted to write a letter to her husband, apologizing for everything and telling him she loved him. however, the blood-stained paper was only half-finished by the time she drew her final breath.

sirius was the first to arrive at the scene, having left the mckinnon's when he saw it was up in flames. he found his wife's body slumped on the ground, a pool of blood surrounding her delicate frame, their son sleeping soundly despite the soft wheezing coming from him. sirius crumbled and screamed loudly, violent sobs ripping out of his chest as he clung to her body, calling out her name repeatedly, brushing back her darkened hair, trying to find any sign of life inside of her. it had taken both james and remus to pry him off of marlene's body so that they could give her a proper burial. she was buried at her favorite spot near the ocean underneath a large singular tree, reminding sirius of the precious time they spent together.

days after her funeral, sirius disappeared with jean in his arms and tracked down the only living relatives of marlene. the rosiers. when sirius located julien rosier, he explained to the man that marlene had been murdered and that jean would be next. it took some convincing before julien agreed to take in jean, but not before sirius made the man make the unbreakable vow, ensuring his son's safety. leaving behind only a kiss on the forehead and marlene's necklace, sirius black disappeared. it was months later when the potters were murdered, that sirius was finally found and tried for betraying the order and for murdering peter Pettigrew. he was sentenced to azkaban where he lived in pain and insanity.

Iris and Julien became surrogate parents to the boy but quickly changed his surname to mckinnon, not wanting there to be any link between him and sirius black. he was raised in a cold household that was based off rules and tough love. while abuse and punishments were uncommon in the rosier home, there was a lot of pressure and expectations placed upon jean's shoulders at a young age. from the beginning, it was clear he was sickly due to the events that occurred during the massacre. because of this, he was locked indoors and forced to study constantly, only admiring the outside world through the tinted windows. as he began to develop magical abilities, iris took it upon herself to teach the boy how to use dark magic as well, wanting him to follow in the family's footsteps as his parents were 'far too good for no reason'.

when he hit the age of 11 and went to get his first wand, jean was rather sad as he felt like he was going to be different from everyone in the school because his own 'family' was so odd. upon entering the wand shop, it was clear that his wand was the only one that could match the intelligence and scope of his magical abilities. when the dark-colored wand was grasped in his pale hand, he felt a jolt that spread like wildfire, making the hair on the back of his neck stand up. it was exhilarating. from that moment on, jean felt far more connected to the wizarding world and suddenly, the school didn't seem so intimidating. well, at least until he had the sorting hat placed upon his head.

the old hat had settled on top of the then blonde hair, it couldn't help but stall, unable to decide what to do with the boy. The words Gryffindor passed it's wrinkled fabric and Jean couldn't help but grow pale. from the rosiers he heard that nothing good came out of Gryffindors, especially since both of his parents were from that house and one died while the was imprisoned for murder. jean and the hat seemed to fight for a sheer ten minutes, the boy practically begging to be placed in ravenclaw out of fear of what would happen to him if he was indeed placed in Gryffindor. the hat seemed to sense the fear in the boy and loudly announced that he belonged in ravenclaw. it was something small but it helped him fit in better with the family. this was also what caused the boy to try and change his entire personality and make it so he wouldn't be compared to those in Gryffindor ever again.

jean quickly became known as the curser of ravenclaw, messing around the dark or inside the shrieking shack, trying to pass the time. however, Dumbledore soon caught on and decided that the boy would become a prefect in order to avoid further interest in dark magic. while it was shocking, it did allow jean to learn all sorts of gossip that was circulating around the school and helped him find the hidden passageways throughout the old school and where they would ultimately lead. now in his sixth year he has a reputation for troublemaking and plans to keep it that way.

Description: Despite the fact he stands at a very average height, his thin and willowy frame causes him to appear quite tall and imposing. He now has chestnut-colored hair that is quite curly and reaches his shoulders. Surprisingly he has gentle features, hazel colored downturned eyes, and soft lips. Jean wasn't old enough to remember the time spent with his mother which is something that depresses him greatly. Despite this, he is well aware of the fact that he was loved unconditionally by her and she protected him with her life. He wishes that he was able to remember her or at least was able to be with her long enough to form lasting memories. Through her various journals and stories spread around the school, he is very familiar with what Marlene was like and is bothered by the fact he may be disappointing her with the way he acts.

The Rosier family disapproved of Sirius and said that he was the reason for Marlene's death and for essentially orphaning Jean. A very cold dark witch, Jean never enjoyed her company but also hated to disappoint her. She was extremely powerful and while she wasn't a Rosier by blood, she certainly is the reason the family itself is still so reputable in Britain. She was always strict when it came to Jean and was the one who locked the boy up inside the house and stated he was far too sickly to do anything other than reading books and learn all he could about all manner of magic. She views him as a son in some way, so the pressure is always there when he is at home.

The cousin of Marlene and one of the reasons that Jean is still alive. He is warmer than his wife and far less cutthroat but he doesn't often share those sides of himself with Jean. Since the boy resembles his parents so much, Julien often keeps his distance, knowing very well that Jean's personality is similar to Sirius' but more twisted due to the influence of Iris. They have a tense relationship that Jean doesn't care to fix.

His childhood bully, Aimee never liked Jean and made that very apparent from the beginning. While she's an extraordinary witch herself, being head girl of ravenclaw and winning basically every award known to wizardkind, she found jean to be something like a bug and constantly would ruin whatever he was working on. if she saw him working in books she would hide them all immediately or she would cause his potions to blow up. she doesn't know why she dislikes him so much, but he simply makes her skin crawl.

noel is the closest to jean in age, being two years older than him. he didn't dislike him as much as aimee but he was jealous of the time he spent with iris, feeling like she favored him over her own son which angered him. he never did take this out on his cousin, but rather on his mother. noel helped him learn non-verbal magic and how to do it in school without getting caught. ultimately he led to jean's troublemaking ways.

while there, death eaters and Voldemort himself showed up and attacked, killing every mckinnon before they could leave. it was terrifying and with her child bundled up in her arms, marlene did everything in her power to fight back and eventually she was struck as she disapparated from the house to her own home. the curse worked its way slowly through her body, filling her with unimaginable pain, but still, she managed to tuck her son into bed, whispering a soft spell to help him sleep. the life was slowly drained out of her and she attempted to write a letter to her husband, apologizing for everything and telling him she loved him. however, the blood-stained paper was only half-finished by the time she drew her final breath.

sirius was the first to arrive at the scene, having left the mckinnon's when he saw it was up in flames. he found his wife's body slumped on the ground, a pool of blood surrounding her delicate frame, their son sleeping soundly despite the soft wheezing coming from him. sirius crumbled and screamed loudly, violent sobs ripping out of his chest as he clung to her body, calling out her name repeatedly, brushing back her darkened hair, trying to find any sign of life inside of her. it had taken both james and remus to pry him off of marlene's body so that they could give her a proper burial. she was buried at her favorite spot near the ocean underneath a large singular tree, reminding sirius of the precious time they spent together.

days after her funeral, sirius disappeared with jean in his arms and tracked down the only living relatives of marlene. the rosiers. when sirius located julien rosier, he explained to the man that marlene had been murdered and that jean would be next. it took some convincing before julien agreed to take in jean, but not before sirius made the man make the unbreakable vow, ensuring his son's safety. leaving behind only a kiss on the forehead and marlene's necklace, sirius black disappeared. it was months later when the potters were murdered, that sirius was finally found and tried for betraying the order and for murdering peter Pettigrew. he was sentenced to azkaban where he lived in pain and insanity.

Iris and Julien became surrogate parents to the boy but quickly changed his surname to mckinnon, not wanting there to be any link between him and sirius black. he was raised in a cold household that was based off rules and tough love. while abuse and punishments were uncommon in the rosier home, there was a lot of pressure and expectations placed upon jean's shoulders at a young age. from the beginning, it was clear he was sickly due to the events that occurred during the massacre. because of this, he was locked indoors and forced to study constantly, only admiring the outside world through the tinted windows. as he began to develop magical abilities, iris took it upon herself to teach the boy how to use dark magic as well, wanting him to follow in the family's footsteps as his parents were 'far too good for no reason'.

when he hit the age of 11 and went to get his first wand, jean was rather sad as he felt like he was going to be different from everyone in the school because his own 'family' was so odd. upon entering the wand shop, it was clear that his wand was the only one that could match the intelligence and scope of his magical abilities. when the dark-colored wand was grasped in his pale hand, he felt a jolt that spread like wildfire, making the hair on the back of his neck stand up. it was exhilarating. from that moment on, jean felt far more connected to the wizarding world and suddenly, the school didn't seem so intimidating. well, at least until he had the sorting hat placed upon his head.

the old hat had settled on top of the then blonde hair, it couldn't help but stall, unable to decide what to do with the boy. The words Gryffindor passed it's wrinkled fabric and Jean couldn't help but grow pale. from the rosiers he heard that nothing good came out of Gryffindors, especially since both of his parents were from that house and one died while the was imprisoned for murder. jean and the hat seemed to fight for a sheer ten minutes, the boy practically begging to be placed in ravenclaw out of fear of what would happen to him if he was indeed placed in Gryffindor. the hat seemed to sense the fear in the boy and loudly announced that he belonged in ravenclaw. it was something small but it helped him fit in better with the family. this was also what caused the boy to try and change his entire personality and make it so he wouldn't be compared to those in Gryffindor ever again.

jean quickly became known as the curser of ravenclaw, messing around the dark or inside the shrieking shack, trying to pass the time. however, Dumbledore soon caught on and decided that the boy would become a prefect in order to avoid further interest in dark magic. while it was shocking, it did allow jean to learn all sorts of gossip that was circulating around the school and helped him find the hidden passageways throughout the old school and where they would ultimately lead. now in his sixth year he has a reputation for troublemaking and plans to keep it that way.
