Appearance: She bites the skin fleeing from her lips and pulls with enamel warriors until blood trickles down. The skin under her nails is curling and angered; battles have taken place and not once has the flesh won. Her face is as dewy from products as her hair that bounces in field mouse-colored waves, and at a stature of 5'10", Theodora has always noticeably stood in strapping boots and slacks, an image of a poshness belonging more to boat-laden families than barn-mucking riders. She keeps crispness to her clothes with straighter lines on a face devoid for a year of the gloat and sneer she was known by more than her name.

A limp is well enough gone; bruises have faded into memory leaving behind only a flinch in the mornings and a wistful โ€” if not fearful โ€” glance towards those soaring in the air. Leave well enough alone, and the just-crooked bridge of her nose throbs in another direction.

Theodora breaks her bones if it means doing better; she contorts her figure and scratches at walls in unholy determination to maintain the stature she stepped on clavicles and ligaments to obtain. Arrogance fed hand in hand with pearly whites flashed when her number was scrawled next to first, a wave spared only in a made-up sense of graciousness towards competitors forced into the warm colors of second and third.

A false mimicry of herself now remains, a plastered smile at wins hard-fought for and lacking all the same in their meat. Nerves have replaced the stoney appearance of a champion fallen, a pedestal neatly collected in its rubble. She'll pretend it's all on purpose, that each decision has truly been hers to make. There's no room for failure, a lesson she smashes orange pulp down with, wincing at the acid touching peeled away skin.

The arrogance is still there, damaged and injured. She could still be that girl, if only she allowed herself to think beyond the nervous breaths.

Background: "But I won, didn't I?"

There was never a doubt when blue ribbons hoisted proudly on necks that Theodora would wrap her fingers around them. It was easily to pluck at feathers and point her chin arrogantly high, strutting about with a repugnant contempt for others.

"I'm not even trying; I'm just better than you."

Raised against a background of failure she claws through competition much as she claws through life: with a hunger more befitting an animal than the prim and proper daughter of financial advisors. Born to averagely loving and averagely wealthy parents, Theodora began her journey with horses at a young and privileged age. A demanding, single child, her demands for a pony eventually became too loud for parents to ignore. A portly companion swiftly followed lessons at local barns with shows soon after.

Obsession in the competitive ring carried a young Theodora nearly as far as her feral need to improve, driving both herself and steed towards greatness and the flaws that came with the fight for it. Her attitude as a child too critically saw the mistakes taken with mountains of salt, fits thrown about stalls and trailers until a success could wipe away the disappointment. The words 'sore loser' scratched at attempted interventions and the ultimate relinquish of power from her parents.

Competitive through her career on horses the rotten attitude of the thriving rider only helped to eventually pull out the rug from Theodora's feet. Having risen to a peak she was lauded as a champion, chasing points and ribbons until the court de grace was offered and etched her name somewhere in history.

A drive to start another season out following her victories led the hubris-filled Theo to a stumble that shook her foundation. With a leg broken and her confidence gone it was only a matter of waiting to see how far the injury would fell the narcissistic giant. Now in recovery for over a year she has since switched divisions thrice, rotating away from the endurance courses she once breathed to compete on as schedules flop themselves and Theodora retreats from the world of flying on a horse.


Horse: A dapple-grey, Dutch Warmblood gelding by the informal name of Mr. Peacock. At 9 years old Theodora has owned Peacock for going on several years, having been present near the latter years of his training and through his prime performance in the arena and fields. Particular in behavior the two work in a tandem not unlike a withered husk on a bench feeding seed to the birds that never wait but always come.

Trained in the competitive cycle of eventing, Mr. Peacock has had to take a step back under his owner in the past year and resign into the safety net of dressage.

His full show name is Mr. Peacock in the Dining Room with a Candlestick.


Extra: Patchouli and vanilla; outdoor arena rides in the rain; attempts at baking bread and instead making disasters; knowing the price of most things, irrelevant knowledge drilled deep in her skull; the way she smiles too long in the mirror, practicing for all the girls in her discipline; obsessed with technique and watching the greats on old films and videos, studying them through books; a homebody as much as she seems to fail at being such.

Reputation: Brat; liar; stuck-up; 'too posh'; willing to step on anyone to succeed; damaged; hiding something; night rides when she thinks nobody can see her; everyone watches the way she looks at them, cruel and unusual; a has-been and a never-will-be-again; waiting for the right moment.

- Someone has definitely heard the chattering of her teeth when eventers get pulled into their endurance runs, seen how her eyes avert and look anywhere but the course.
- Some say her parents are wealthier than she lets on and the judges of the previous season were bribed into giving her points.
- Falling back onto dressage was her plan all along; she simply can't let any one discipline be without her dominating and arrogant self.

Fueled with ambition is our lady on a mission. Celestine has the talent of showing herself to the public without actually allowing them to know who she genuinely is. The outside world gazes at her well-crafted outer persona, Celestine the gentle, polite, and graceful. Poised and elegant as Princess Odette from Swan Lake; the friendly face who claps for the triumph of her competitors and bows her head in gratitude on her spot on the second place podium. The red of her palms goes unnoticed from how pained the impact of her applause causes and clenched teeth are hidden as her eyes meet the humiliating platform which she stands on.

Not all parts of her outer layer are untrue, she would argue that what she shows to others still holds some degree of veracity. She is just beyond sugar-sweet pleasantries and welcoming committee smiles. Under the fluorescent lights within the comforts of her dorm room, when the doors are closed and her audience has long left, she is the Black Swan. Envy runs clear through her veins, she is a force of nature fools dare to challenge, and the quality of her claws shows the journey she made to get where she is. They hunger for more till she gets to the very top. The world is unforgiving and Celestine agrees. She has worked too hard to be where she is now, kissed too many asses, snatched handfuls of opportunities from the hands of others, and risked it all. Celestine Clemonte is the girl your mommy warns you about because she won't stop till your life is up in flames.

A cremello Irish draught named Leo. A gentle giant with not a thought behind those dazzling pale blue eyes. His full name is Mothra Leoโ€”named for his resemblance to the little larva Kaiju circa Rebirth of Mothra. However, his show name is Land of Milk and Cookies, a more palatable aesthetic to judges though partially inspired by The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirlโ€”not that she'll admit it.
R E P U T A T I O N
Since the very first day she graced Altneudorf, Celestine was meant to be someone. It is clear to anyone who meets her that she means business; those high on the social food chain can sniff out her desire to be like them and those licking their scraps can't tell her apart from such a crowd. A way with words and a performer at heart, the trusting in nature support her golden girl reputation and play fool to her steady climb to the top. However, ask the right people and you'll find cracks revealing her true colors. Arguably one of the most indefatigable students yet still a champion without the gold to prove so. Some may say her lack of victories and her mountain of silver is starting to get to her. She enters this school year with lingering gossip of alleged volatile outbursts, rumors going around about how she behaved in her performing arts school prior, and stories of her family floating to the surface. It suffices to say she's playing calm on a slowly sinking ship, her show must go on.

H I S T O R Y
โ€” From the poshest corner in Bristol, England, and born to West-end actress turned big screen Academy award winner Maribeth Clemonte and her prior talent manager turned husband Claude Upton, Celestine is the eldest by five minutes. Some might say it was her first and last taste of first place.
โ€” The watching eye of the public has been her lurking shadow since conception. Where some find the divide between the limelight and their personal life, Claude was an opportunist. A founder of a talent management agency was bound to hunger for the taste of money and develop the sniffer to follow its trail.
โ€” Her first core memory was a bland day. She could probably tell you every detail from the top of her memory but she'd rather get to the point. She was a little girl, no less than five when a photographer visited to take photos of her and her family for the month's issue of Good Housekeeping. Where her brother got to run around and get his new shoes dirtied against the mud, she had to sit by a toy tea set and pretend to have morning tea with Mr. Rabbit. She could never forget the lashing she got from her father after she managed to break the little teapot in a tantrum right in between shots.
โ€” Lancelot, her brother, is everything she wants to be from simply his own instinct. A natural under the camera flashes of paparazzi and a true treat to work with for interviews. If she didn't care for him so much, she would have lamented her failure of not absorbing him in the womb. Pretty little Lancelot is played by Oscar Wadsager. They both study at Basel University albeit, he's based on-campus. They're close; he makes the effort to watch her competitions and past ballet recitals.
โ€” Celestine made a name for herself in her pursuit of the performing arts. (Un)intentionally following a similar path to her mother, she had been in the field of ballet since she was seven. She had attended the Royal Ballet School until her (alleged) expulsion at seventeen for (allegedly) punching a fellow dancer. Any references to the incident have been conveniently wiped clean by her father (allegedly) and the school and the girl have been paid off handsomely (allegedly).
โ€” Equestrian had started out as a desperate hobby to find an olive branch between her and her mother. Maribeth competed in Eventing as a young teenager and owned a large property in the countryside that held her beloved horses which she frequented in the summer. After feigning a similar interest in equine sports, Celestine spent all her summers with trainers in the discipline of Eventing. The false interest soon sprouted into a genuine passion. In her mid-teens, she chose to switch from Eventing to Vaulting to mix her two performing arts into oneโ€”she hasn't looked back since.
โ€” Despite Claude Upton's talent for cleaning up his clientele's dirty work, he sure was lazy with where he threw the rags away. One hack and a leak were all it took to launch the Clemonte-Upton family under the judging eye of the public jury that is the media. Dirty laundry has been resurfacing and all they can do now is look the other way to save face.

A grey Lipizzan named Cigarette and is approx. 8 years old. She is a tad darker-coated compared to other Lipizzans of her age, given she has yet to fully grow out of her black coloring and into her gray. Rรฉmy is known for call her Ciggy or Ettie. She is named after Albert Camus's cat, which is ironic and he'll be the first to say it is contrary to Camus's point in naming his cat something so ridiculous. Rรฉmy is, admittedly, just uncreative. Her show name is much less offensive, Gitika, which is a name that originates from Sanskrit and means, roughly, "little song."

heavily inspired by the vintage silhouettes of the early 20th century, Rรฉmy wears his wealth in a manner that a layman might interpret as casual. No labels, nothing recognizably designer unless you know what you're looking for, and an overall preference for discretion in how his family's money plays out across his chest. Those of the same tax bracket will know, just by virtue of looking at him, that he's one of the crowd. More here.

A concave chest that isn't doesn't appear fitting for such physical tolls. His father's words hum in his lungs and seizes him in what he knows is anxiety and perhaps drug-induced psychosis. When the world turns its eyes on him, he freezes and life oozes out from him. He's a puppet, with hypermobile joints that shouldn't roll around with the muscles that bulge and enclose them. Arms hang forward as he trots to his self-imposed thorns. Stand tall, a voice reminds him. But the days for full height are gone. Still, he rises to the full 5 feet, 8 inches. Rimrod, Rรฉmy fixes his cufflinks and hoists his messenger bag across that bird-like chest. A bit of blood leaks out his nostril, he wipes it free, checks the mirror, and picks at another bit of an acne scar. Back to business, and he checks his shirt for nosebleed stains before slamming the dorm room shut.

tends to keep a paperback or his little, black notebook shoved into his back pocket so he can pull it out and pretend to read to avoid talking to people, has one (1) vice and it is his Prada backpack that his father makes fun of but his mother and siblings insist is fitting of his personality, wearing a sailor's cap (not very common now, but those who remember when he was funny will recall it), refuses to eat something if he thinks it has the potential of being spoiled (even if its just made up), fiddling with his simple, gold chain, writing down another "cool vocab word" in his little notebook

meticulous, an over-crowded head, pensive, also no thoughts head empty, quick to offer a grim smile but not a hello, solemn, rage-filled, mind over matter, mild Machiavelli, Napoleon complex, traditional, in denial, paranoid, overly private, self-perseverance, overly confident, rude, ever-thinking (not accurate), all-seeing, all-knowing (no, like he really isn't), quick to bite first, prideful

Loser. The letters are written in cursive script in the steam of the dorm bathroomโ€™s mirror. He grins in this twisted, grim manner that shows only the small gap between his teeth. โ€œLoo-zer,โ€ he tries the syllables out with a ridiculous twirl of his tongue. There are memories of spittle flying from a drunken manโ€™s lips as he spoke the same word. You lost, didnโ€™t you? Remy knows its ridiculous, this desire to win at a sport no one cares about. Of course, people care, but his conviction falls on deaf ears within the Antoine family. It doesnโ€™t key into a greater plan so no one cares.

โ€Loser,โ€ he screeches and tosses his shampoo bottle feebly to the side. His conviction isnโ€™t even conviction โ€” it is a childish need to have eyes on him. His recent competitions havenโ€™t been worthy of note, much less a flight or a train ride down to come see. Remy is ridiculous, isnโ€™t he? But he buttons his white shirt up to the collar and properly rolls back his sleeves. He pleats his pants himself in an attempt to feel more in control and at ease. He swallows another pill, does another injection, and calls Sabine to leave another snide voicemail and then gets Twin on the horn and talks for at least forty five minutes without taking a breath or letting them get a word in edgewise (which, if you knew Twin, is a feat). He reads some Kierkegaard, smokes a cigarette which will mean death tomorrow during practice, and then stumble-visits Ettie and gives her dinner and a pat-down.

The next day, he will be unafraid to raise his hand and correct a peer on something, even though it is university and not secondary school. There is no need to raise your hand, no need to correct others, and his professors hate this late-bloomer tendency. He operates in his own world until the ends of said world come together and shake him back into reality. Loser.

Two years ago, students will be traumatized to remember Rรฉmy as a hellraising thorn in everyone's side who was, admittedly, quite pretentious and bigheaded about his familial prestige. Ironically, if you met either of his siblings, Twin and Sabine, you might know that he is actually the most sane of his family, second maybe to his mother, Ursula. However, the most recent year has shown Rรฉmy to be the same callous young man, but he is far less lively. There is nothing to joke about with Rรฉmy unless it happens to be sarcastic or nihilistic in nature. He only seems to laugh at his own jokes, and his ego is still as sharp as ever. Overall, one might be inclined to ignore or steer clear of Rรฉmy, unsure of what to make of him especially as he is known for his 'roid usage and his addiction to benzedrines

โ€” Born in Sri Lanka but was adopted and brought to France in his infancy by Ursula and Madigan Antoine. He does not know his birth parents, though he has studied for a summer semester in India recently, and during his time there, he visited his home country.
โ€” Is the eldest with two younger siblings, also all adopted. Twin is the youngest at seventeen and the most rebellious of the bunch. Sabine is the middle child at twenty and arguably the most successful and cutthroat. They were both adopted from the U.S. Twin is played by Taylor Russell and Sabine is played by Devyn Garcia, for visual reference.
โ€” The Antoines are an old-moneyed family that primarily deals in biotechnology and medical equipment development and retail. They own a chain of hospitals and an insurance company in the U.S., along with dealing heavily in American politics. Madigan, being from the U.S., is their connection to this part of the world. He lives in the States while Ursula manages the rest of the corporation in France.
โ€” Remy has always had an interest in equine sports, and he made a name for himself in the competitive sphere in his mid-teens. Dressage was initially where he found success, but Steeplechase is where his heart lies. Furthermore, many know that he plateaued in Dressage, especially following the passing of his first horse, Ishara.
โ€” Originally, he was supposed to attend Oxford, where his sister Sabine currently attends. In the plans outlined by Ursula, Remy was originally going to take up as CEO. Due to his latent disinterest in medical technology, he is now going to head up the political end of business and work in the States with his father. Ultimately, the goal would be the presidency, hence why he majors in Philosophy. Now, Sabine studies Biotechnology so she can work for the company and eventually take over as CEO. It is unclear to many, even inside the Antoine family, if Remyโ€™s apathy and drug use stems from this change or not, though there have been minor stories on the issue published in Hello! and other tabloids that had nothing better to post.
โ€” Last year, Remy was placed under academic probation and banned from competing in Dressage due to a staff member finding him using drugs prior to a competition. While it is an open secret at the school that he uses steroids, it was his non-competitive drug use that was discovered and led to his removal from the competition. He still competes in Steeplechase since he was able to โ€œpassโ€ a drug screen.
โ€” Remy has not been the same since his second year at the school. He is now in his third. If he has any friends, they may know why, but otherwise, many rightly suspect that it is due to his continued plateau in terms of competition. He runs in the middle of the pack when he used to be the best of the best. Sabine, meanwhile, is often seen in newspaper headlines, on the cover of Science or with her name accompanied on small script of an academic journal.

putting a tiny summary bc idk when I'll finish. She's kinda mean but more so outspoken, kinda used to being on the outs, very competitive, her father married into a wealthy family but she wasn't from one originally, no full siblings, she's german and jewish, etc.

Most tell Ennis that sheโ€™s better suited for endurance racing (and perhaps he is as well), but he refuses to switch, and would sooner drop out than ride a different horse. Standoffish with fiery tendencies, he is a very strong horse who is easily worked up and not the easiest to handle. When in fire-breathing dragon mode, he is jokingly referred to as "Inferno." Despite the impression this gives, he is very earnest and would jump through fire if Cam asked him to.

It seems that it is a requirement for those in the dressage course to be obsessed with perfection and he is no different. While this will never be spoken out loud by this individual, he will mentally kick himself until he tests in the way he deems to be acceptable. Not the type of person to be very loyal, he will bounce around between partners whenever he feels to suffocating feeling of commitment as he avoids it like the plague. About โ€” This mare was originally retired from show jumping due to severe showing anxiety that resulted in reoccurring ulcers, causing her to be a pasture pet for a couple of years. She was known to be very high-strung and hot compared to the others but most people passed it off as her being a 'typical mare', and often her issues were ignored. Unable to connect with a trainer or rider, Dee kept to herself in her paddock and just seemed to do enough to keep people off her back. Ren had seen her when he was at the farm to try out a different horse and was intrigued by her coloring and the fact she stayed as far out as possible from everyone. There was no magical connection when he tried her out, but he could see her potential, the need to be understood and supported by someone.

So despite not being able to do much more than simply walk her around the arena, he packed her up and hauled her back home. With lots of dedication, hard work, and vet visits, Dee began to turn a corner and settled a lot. Her nerves and attitude seemed to melt away and she was no longer in fight mode in order to keep her safe from uncomfortable situations. Her introduction to dressage was refreshing to the horse as she finally found something that was exciting for her but didn't stress her out. With her petite frame and lightweight movements, the pair made a very attractive team. She thrives in the dressage ring and has actually gotten back into jumping (for fun exclusively) in the form of team chasing that he does with close friends!

Born into a family of fine artists, Renato was no different. With long slender limbs, an air of beauty, unbridled skill, and balance he was a natural dancer before he was even able to properly walk. His mother Maria was all about supporting her only son and introducing him to the world of making art with one's body. The boy very quickly excelled in ballet and found it to be a very fun activity for him to do. He wasn't bothered by anyone saying it was "for girls" or making assumptions about his sexuality as he enjoyed the sport thoroughly. An athlete from the age of 6 years old, he continued to climb the ranks, attending private schools for dancers and performing on the most brilliant stages. The glamour, lights, adoration, and applause were such a high that seemingly it couldn't be beaten.

It wasn't until he spent a few weeks with a close friend during their summer vacation that he was introduced to horses. He felt like his world had opened tremendously and he excitedly called his mother and gushed about his interest in the additional sport. An agreement was struck between parent and child that he would be able to participate in the equestrian world as long as it did not affect his dance career at least until the end of high school. A verbal promise was made and soon Renato dove into a new sort of dance that he had never imagined. Dressage was his main focus and he went to a small dressage barn that helped to train and nurture the boy as he aged and progressed in this additional sport. His knowledge of dance seemed to give life and creativity to his performances, despite the fact that he was doing the same test as other students in the class.

Still, he lived for it. It was a thrill, relying on only body contact to communicate with your dance partner. There were no words ever spoken, no asking for advice, it was something that they could only feel out and communicate with their bodies and souls. By the time he reached high school, he had blue ribbons decorating his walls and he had even convinced his mother to get into the sport casually. Trail rides and relaxed conversations allowed the two to form a closer relationship and gave him room to talk to her about additional schooling. He had agreed to stay at the dance academy until graduation but then he wanted to apply to the equestrian academy as it seemed to be the perfect place for him.

There wasn't an immediate yes from Maria, but after a couple of days, she agreed and gave her blessing to her son. With excitement dancing across his body, he entered the academy upon graduating from high school. It was everything he wanted and he thrived in the environment. Compared to practically every other dressage student he was incredibly laid-back and seemed as if he didn't belong in the class. With his relaxed attitude and smooth words, he seemed to lazily float around the warm-up ring before delivering a beautiful test. Drama dripped from him like teardrops as he left a trail of broken hearts behind after each semester, but it never seemed to phase him. Now in his final year, he's looking to finish without a hitch and maybe pursue a professional career in dressage. Who knows, maybe aim for the Olympics.

While she will not say anything rude and can maintain a civil conversation, she will not hesitate to escalate into a verbal fight if she feels like she is being pressured or bullied by backhanded compliments. A pessimist, she really has a hard time looking on the bright side of things and struggles to find the optimistic viewpoint of her many peers. About โ€” Born and raised on the Shepard breeding farm, Brego has always been a rather lazy and stubborn horse. He never really wanted to do anything he was told to unless he thought of it first. He is very receptive to whoever is riding him and will generally just take care of his rider, despite any nerves or concerns they may have. Now he may not jump a double clear if he has a nervous nelly riding him, but he will do his best not to spook or throw his rider and will simply refuse if he doesn't feel supported enough for a jump. Quite intelligent, he does get into trouble for finding stashes of treats or attempting to bust open a gate if nobody is looking. His sense of humor is a perfect distraction for Theo so she often spends free time with him out in the barn or field as he is entertaining just to watch.

Theo was a planned child but unexpected delivery that has always been talked about within her family. After all, how many mothers go into early labor at the same time as their prized mare? From the beginning, the Shepard family had enough money to sustain a small breeding facility where they focused on producing top breeding lines for their mares and focused on the health and well-being of all the foals. The program itself was formed when Theo mother, Diana, retired her top showjumper and really wanted to have her be a broodmare for a foal or two. It originally was planned to be a side project for Diana to get a foal from her mare, but she found it to be a rather interesting and addicting thing to do and so she expanded her breeding program to five mares.

Her husband Luca was always supportive of his wife's endeavors, even opting to be a primary caretaker of their children so she could focus on her program. By the time Theo was born, she had two older siblings and the breeding program had extended tremendously. Backed by the money that she won showjumping, Diana had created a rather successful breeding program focused solely on Holsteiners. Because this was the environment she was raised in, Theo naturally was in love with the horse world and completely dove into it. From the get-go she was involved in eventing, it was something natural to her that couldn't be taken away.

She did Pony Club like most children her age but as soon as she could she got out of it. She struggled with holding herself back as a child, often resulting in broken fingers or wrists because she was a bit too ambitious for her own good. She rode for a barn that a family friend owned but also had a private trainer in order for her to get as much practice as she possibly could. Theo's addiction to the world of eventing and horses really made it difficult for her to maintain lots of friendships. This led to her having a small group of friends she occasionally competed with, but mostly rode and trained for fun with. She really enjoyed learning about positive reinforcement training and liberty. Both were things she liked to do with the farm's riding horses as it was the easy groundwork for her to do.

With her dedication to the sport and the animals themselves, Diana gifted her youngest child On The Prowl (KitKat), a former schoolmaster that was purchased to carry Theo to even greater heights. Theo was 12 at the time and was thrilled to have such a wonderful horse as her own. KitKat and Theo were a force to be reckoned with in the eventing world. They were a seamless pairing that always seemed to enjoy every competition, regardless if they placed or not. So it was only natural when she was applying to schools and received an acceptance letter from Altneudorf Royal Equestrian Academy that she took KitKat with her. Adjusting to life overseas was easy because of the mare, Theo had a sense of comfort and security as she knew she was able to trust her horse and that they could work through everything.

There was never really a problem with the riding program, other than Theo simply not getting along with some of the female students due to her gruff demeanor, but it all seemingly went downhill at the end of the season of her first year. The pair were making good time on their cross-country round, but due to how a tricky combination was set up, the worst thing to ever happen when jumping ended up coming true. It was a blur for Theo. One moment she was clutching KitKat's mane and the next she was laying at the bottom of a hill with her leg cocked at an unnatural angle. A rotational fall. Theo had miraculously fallen before Kitkat had landed on her fully, the impact only hitting her leg before they separated. Both were rushed to emergency surgery but only one would come out of it alive. Due to complications and the severity of her injuries, KitKat passed in surgery and when Theo woke up from her own, she was given the most devastating news.

Her world had crumbled right before her eyes. Rehabilitation was painful, but her depression and PTSD were even worse. She would wake up sweating and crying, getting sick from the flashes of memories and at the mere thought of going back to the show ring. Her parents offered to pull her from the school, but Theo refused. She didn't know if she wanted to compete again but for some reason, she felt as if she would be wasting the opportunity that her horse had given her. So she stuck to it and began to double major if you will in an Equine Physical Therapy path while she worked to get back into the eventers course. Despite her parents going through a divorce and their daughter rehabbing herself across the world, they shipped her a foal that they had quietly been training while Theo was at school and in rehab. Brego arrived at the Academy shortly before Theo officially rejoined the course.

Appearance: Chu is 5'2" in height with an athletic build. She has been working with horses for almost her entire life so is used to hard work, making her surprisingly stronger than she looks. In her teenage years, she wore a lot of makeup to try and conceal her albinism, using dark mascara and foundation darker than her skin tone to try and fit in. However, she grew more confident in herself as her riding ability improved and, as horses are non-judgemental, she found herself feeling able to leave the house without makeup. She keeps her hair long, though ties it back when riding.

Personality: Chu always tries to be friendly, though grew up experiencing bullying due to her appearance, so is now more anxious about communicating with people. She prefers to spend time with horses, especially her own, and loves days where the yard is quiet and she can work in peace. She does want to make friends but, being in her first year at the school, she is worried about meeting new people. She wants to enjoy the benefits of having close friends without having to actually meet anyone. She is quiet and won't speak up if she thinks something is wrong. If she sees you treating your horse badly or a welfare issue, she will judge you harshly for it but is often too afraid of making enemies to confront you about it. She'd rather grass you up to a staff member, though this isn't something she's had to do yet. She is very patient with horses and believes there is always a reason behind behaviours. If her horse bucks, she's the first person to check him for pain or poor saddle fit. She does a lot of groundwork with her horse, which was often seen as "weird" at her previous yard. She is a huge believer in positive reinforcement training and prefers to reward her horse for good behaviours than punish him for bad.

Background: Chu was born to a Vietnamese family living in England. The two were struggling financially at the time and Chu was not planned, however, they fell in love with her as soon as they found out they were having a baby. They were completely unaware that the two of them both carried a gene for albinism, and were very confused when their child came out pale, with strange, almost pink eyes and snow-white hair. Her father, believing her mother had had an affair, left the family behind. Chu's mother struggled to support herself financially, finding herself in dangerous situations in order to avoid becoming homeless. Chu lived with many strange men growing up, though her mother did her best to keep her baby safe.

During her childhood, Chu found herself living with a cruel man who abused her and her mother. Though her mother was hesitant, afraid of having her child taken away if she became homeless, she fled to a women's shelter. This was when their lives turned around as they were provided with the resources needed to get on their feet. Her mother found a good job and was given government financial aid to help them afford rent. They were given resources for free school uniforms, food banks and further financial aid.

It was around this time that Chu found out about a local riding school nearby. Unable to afford riding lessons, Chu volunteered through the pony club where she was rewarded with free riding lessons after obtaining a certain amount of points. She was a hard worker, highly motivated to learn more about horses and riding, and spent years volunteering with them.

In her early teens, Chu saved some of her own money to complete her British Horse Society Challenge Awards so she could further her education. It was through this that she realized the practices at the riding school weren't focusing on the welfare of the horse. Horses were worked for too long with not enough rest, they weren't turned out enough, and the staff members harshly punished horses for very minor offenses. She decided to leave the riding school, instead volunteering at a local rescue. Here, she fell in love with rescue horses. She was taught about different training methods, how horses were backed, and how to handle nervous or aggressive horses. By her late teens, she was well-trained in horse handling and riding.

Around the time she was offered a job by the rescue, her mother had found a new partner, a kind woman with a passion for animals. The two hit it off instantly and Chu and her mother moved in with her after a year of the two dating. At this point, they were in the best position they had ever been. Unknown to Chu, her mother had been saving money to help her eventually go to college. With this money, Chu was able to purchase her first rescue horse and go to Altneudorf Royal Equestrian Academy.

Horse: Holloway Boy, or Sid, is a 6-year-old Off The Track English Thoroughbred gelding. Though he was fast for a horse, he was slow for a racing thoroughbred, coming last in many of his races. He was therefore retired from the sport. His previous owners were not interested in keeping him as a sire and planned to euthanize him now he had no use for them. The rescue where Chu worked was made aware of this but they were at full capacity. Chu begged her mother to help rescue him though she was hesitant. However, Sid's initial fee was quite small, so she eventually relented and gifted him to her daughter. He was very anxious at first and Chu eventually completely retrained him, rebacking him using positive reinforcement. Though he is still very anxious at times, he has calmed down a lot since he was bought at age 4. The two are highly bonded and Sid often shows signs of high stress levels when being ridden by strangers. Chu is therefore very selective about who can even muck out her horse, let alone ride him. They currently compete at low-level eventing but Chu hopes to take him further. He is 16.1hh with a black coat and a white star and snip. He also has a white sock on his left hind leg.

โ€ข Chu experienced bullying while at school due to her appearance, making her feel ashamed of how she looked. She has been working on this part of herself for a long time and is now more confident, though still struggles with her insecurities.
โ€ข Her albinism has led to her having some vision problems, including astigmatism and short-sightedness. This is corrected with glasses, though as it's dangerous to ride with glasses, she often rides with contacts.
โ€ข Though she is in love with rescue horses, particularly Sid, her dream horse breed would be a Klabruber.

Reputation: Chu is often seen as antisocial or weird as she is rarely seen around friends and doesn't often attend social gatherings or parties. When she does, she stays at the sidelines, avoiding the main action. At events, she is the one to avoid in the warm-up arena, not because of poor riding, but as her horse is a rescue and still getting used to events, he is often spooky and can cause problems.
