this one is loosely based on things like sakamoto days and the way of the househusband; basically, a campy story about a group of ex criminals!

essentially, this will be following a cast majority made of employees and customers of the rusted lantern. maybe you're an ex-akasabi member working at the restaurant, maybe you're a current akasabi member trying to get someone to rejoin the ranks, maybe you're an unwitting regular with a normal life who really shouldn't be witness to this mess. there are no pre-made roles, so just let me know if you're interested in playing some big name! (i myself will be taking the current owner of the izakaya!)

while i'll be steering things slightly with scheduled events, this will mostly be a sandbox that's character driven, with less focus on following a hard plot. if you're interested in that, then stick around!

This rp is 18+ for the subject matter that's likely to be touched on. However, there's no intention for this rp to get particularly gory or dark, or to include any graphic and deeply upsetting depictions of these topics. The vibe here is camp and dark comedy, so be mindful of what you're signing up for! Things shouldn't be getting all that serious.

2.

There are no real literacy requirements, but multiple paragraphs are preferred; No one liners. Similarly, there are no real activity requirements, but if you go multiple weeks without posting and don't reply to attempts at communication, you'll be removed. (Basically, if life gets in the way, just let us know!)

3.

Discord will be required for ooc: There will be a tupper groupchat for shenanigans, and it's going to be the hub of plotting. As soon as there's a bit of interest, I'll post a server link! Please be willing to plot there, since the nature of this rp leaves a lot of room for pre existing relationships, and it'll add a lot of fun to things!

4.

Similarly to the discord, I'll be putting up a character sheet page when there's actually a bit of interest. There are very few limits on character creation itself, but all characters should be 21+ and we'll be sticking to art for face claims. Currently I'm keeping a limit of two characters per player, just to keep things manageable.

It takes a special kind of conviction--or stupidity, depending on who you ask--to get an entire yakuza group on your bad side for the sake of running an izakaya. Depending on who you ask, Yuzuto has both traits in spades. Could you call it a silly dream to stake your life on, just running a cheap restaurant and living a semi-normal life? If Yuzuto heard you say that, though, he'd start raising hell. To him, that ambition is as profound as anything could be.

Yuzuto has always been single-minded, putting all of himself into everything he does. That, paired with a tendency toward impulsivity, was what his uncle used to say would be the death of him in the Akasabi group. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen, but Yuzuto doesn't take the time to agonize over it; He's never been particularly concerned about the future, instead focusing entirely on what's right in front of him.

The Akasabi loyalty may be gone for Yuzuto, but in its place is an unwavering loyalty to the employees of The Rusted Lantern. His conviction and stupidity goes into protecting them and the restaurant, and it's the one thing that makes him a passable boss. Working for a business owned by a stubborn, impulsive, uneducated twenty-something isn't the most ideal, but how many other food service employers would lay down their lives for their employees and pay above minimum wage?

The Yuzuki family has been in the service of the Akasabis for generations, and for the most part, it's been a pretty sweet deal--if you're into the whole organized crime thing, anyway. The Yuzukis kept their heads down, kept the business running, gathered information and carried out odd jobs for the Akasabis, with more than enough financial reward.

Well, when Yuzuto became the heir to the Yuzuki name, he decided to change things up. He'd watched a few of his older relatives go through this whole charade when they ended up running the place: Kicking their feet up for a few years, enjoying the rewards, and then getting whacked the moment they started to feel sure things would always be going their way. Yuzuto was born into service to the Akasabis, and he'd spent his teenage years splitting his time between restaurant work and yakuza labor. It didn't take much thinking for him to decide that he preferred the one where he smelled like beer and food instead of blood when he got home after a hard night. And there was no way in hell he was going to sign his own death warrant by rising up in the ranks.

And so, with trademark conviction and stupidity, Yuzuto cut all employment ties with the Akasabis, and dedicated himself to keeping the izakaya afloat instead. The Rusted Lantern has been his pride and joy for the last year, and he'd much rather stake his life on it than on some yakuza boss.
