Victoria awoke to the sound of cannons and gunfire.She immediately bolted up and ran to the window. Her Mammy entered and looked horrified. "Miss Victoria! Get away from that window right now! Running up to the window wearing nothing but your nightgown? It isn't decent!" Mammy scolded. Victoria turned. "I'm sorry, Mammy, I woke up to the gunfire and I wanted to see what it was," said Victoria.

Alfred fired another shot desperately before collapsing due to the bullet wound in his leg. A couple of the other soldiers took his place in firing, assuming he was dead. The battle seemed to be coming to an end as the Union took off in the opposite direction. Alfred stayed on the ground as the Confederacy claimed their victory. They didn't seem to notice the bodies littering the ground. Alfred desperately tried to fake his death to avoid being taken prisoner.

Victoria was now fully dressed. She saw the firing had come to an end, so she want to look for survivors. She carefully snuck away from her home when the soldiers clear away. She scoured the field for survivors.

Alfred tried to minimize his breathing as much as possible until the Confederate soldiers had left the area, but he still had to breathe. He could feel the stinging pain in his leg from the bullet wound and winced a bit at the pain.

Victoria made it to the battlefield. She stayed out of sight until the last of the soldiers left. "Hello?" Victoria called out softly. "Is anyone alive?"
