City of Dying DandelionsIn the center of a ruined New York-inspired city overtaken by animals and flowers, 2,500 25 year olds flourish in a small, makeshift community named 'Dandelion', living in the buildings that used to belong to a former civilization.
At some point, from last year to five years ago, you awakened from your coma with the smell of peaches filling your senses. You found yourself in a repurposed community greenhouse on a skyscraper rooftop, surrounded by flowers and fellow comatose patients. You may find that some parts of your body feel new and unusual--your legs are bionic, your eyes are differently colored, other body parts might have been replaced, but you are still you. You may not remember anything before the coma, but the personality and skills from your previous life are intact. On top of that, you are sterilized, and you do not have any memory of what children are, and if you were ever smaller or saw anyone older.
In this wholesome town, you are the last community humankind has, living the remainder of your fulfilling, happy lives over the graveyard of your dying species.
And you are all oblivious to it.
IntroductionHello everyone! Due to finding heavy success in a roleplay I've been having with my friend
Rusty of Shackleford
over a past few months, we both wanted to try the format we made together in a group roleplay context.
As the title implies, this roleplay is mostly experimental and will be run entirely on Discord with the exception of the recruitment process and character sheets. The system will require the use of discord bots but will be easy to learn and we're ready to teach. We hope to make some new friends with this roleplay!
In the north, there are an abundance of intact skyscrapers filled with vines that bear fruit that's also a popular spot for scavenging. Grappling hooks are essential here.
In the east, there is only rubble. Miners dig here for material so carpenters can use.
An hour in the west, there is a 100 ft. tall dam with saltwater on the other end. There are stairs and grapple hook points for fishermen live here with ease, though even with these handicaps, it takes about an hour to get into town. The water is clear enough to see all the fish swimming through the long gone remains of a city. Each spring, there is a whale festival that's held in the wide space on top of the dam where all participants decorate and move their shops.
If you need help, yell the name 'Pan'. The place is watched over by hundreds of helpful, robotic doves made with silver who feed advice and offer listening ears. These birds have always been around and warn people of dangers, such as bad weather, nearby predators and more. They all have the same, interconnected AI that goes by the name Pan. The city's name came from when the first person who woke up picked up a dandelion and asked what it was. That person's name is Nova, and she used to be the mayor.
Local Wildlife- Animals we associate with different places have moved here and animals from nearby states have bloomed in population. This town is a haven for monkeys, exotic birds, and shade dwelling insects especially. At nights, fireflies in huge quantities surround Dandelion completely, like they're attracted to something here.
Currency- Takes the form of a fruit called Eden. It's got a clear, smooth shell that requires being broken into like a watermelon and on the inside is a glowing, red honey-like liquid that causes the entire fruit to glow at night. It tastes like sangria with seeds that have antidepressant properties. After usage, the shell can be used as fuel and intensifies the aroma of whatever it is tossed in with. It cannot be grown domestically and is grown off of rare, odd locations in the east and north. The fruit always tends to be surrounded by shadows, and no matter how much light you shine on it, the shadows never leave. It seems like our bionic eyes like censoring things we shouldn't see by making them shadows.
PlotWhen we say that there's 2,500 people, that means awake people. Over these five years, 2,500 people woke up while another 2,500 still rest. It normally wouldn't be a problem, but this last year, it stopped exactly there. There were 2,501 people, and one day on the job mayor Nova slipped back into her coma, nobody else ever woke up since. These were both firsts, as nobody had fallen back into a coma before and everyone was waking up regularly. Since then, her assistant Raiden has been leading the town of Dandelion and has a good reputation for all the changes he's made from even before he became the mayor.
Still, nobody has woken up, but we still hold onto hope that this year they just might.
When the first leaf turns orange, we get ready for winter by celebrating the accomplishments we've made during the year's warmth. Together for three days, we bring everything we're proud of to the town square, a beautiful park that has a wide open lake. Some people use this as an opportunity to sell, show off, or just to have fun. We've dubbed this the First Leaf Festival.
And today is day one of the First Leaf Festival. A day we're supposed to enjoy, yet..
A week before the festival, a select group of venders received a warning letter from a notorious group of masked thieves called the Magpies.
This letter said:
"Hide your shinies, the Magpies are coming!"
Rational ones backed down from selling at the festival, and those people aren't part of our story. For some reason or the other, you were determined to sell at this festival, and so the Mayor assigned you along with many other venders a tiny square near the lake so you could keep an eye on one another's backs.
Today you meet your fellow, scared venders at the entrance of the festival. You've all decided it was best to set up your stands in the afternoon and enjoy the festival first to get to know each other.
If someone else has a role you want, that role is still up for grabs. This RP isn't first come first serve and duplicates are fine, as long as there isn't 5 doctors.
Mayor- Runs the town. He doesn't have a home and tends to go back and forth between sleeping in the repurposed graveyard that has since become a flourishing garden and the greenhouse in which all the comatose patients are kept. Charles Cheese
Bird Watcher- This is the term for mayor's assistant. This person is trusted by Pan to be told current events and help the mayor make informed decisions. The Bird Watcher has to keep all information she learns confidential and lives a life of a hermit due to how much she knows. Charles Cheese
Vine keeper- These people are farmers. Their farms are located on rooftops and they may travel farm through farm through bridges or grappling hooks. You may either be a florist or a crop farmer. screaming armadillo
Miner- This person digs out rubble from the east and collects material for carpenters to build with. Usually roomed with one.
Water Rancher- This is the term the people of Dandelion have given fishermen. These people live by the dams, which are an hour away. This makes the community of water ranchers very tightly knit.
Librarian- Their jobs are to travel the north in search of knowledge amongst the rubble. They usually accompany the Vultures. They repurpose old churches for their book hordes Rusty of Shackleford
Librarian Assistant- This person usually has interest in science. While the Librarian goes out on journeys, this person stays to make sure no thieves rob the goods at the church. They have plenty of material to consume and all the right equipment they need to do experiments. Hexblood Bandit
Cooker- Chef. It stuck on when the first people who woke up weren't certain what to name what they were doing. This person is also usually neighbors with a rancher. Meryl_ya
Dabblers- People who craft or smith. They tend to live in warehouses. Tattletale
Carpenters- They build. They live in their own houses that they made.
AfΓ© owner- These people own old coffee shops. The only lasting sign of one of these shops had the letter 'c' scratched out. Their drinks are called handshakes due to a miscommunication with Pan and the only eligible letters on the coffee menu being 'shake'. unstablepuddle
Maid/Butler- When someone or a group of people is rich enough, they will tend to hire someone to clean up after them. These people can work for any of the above categories.
RulesTo increase longevity and intrigue of the roleplay, I'm going to implement a few rules I haven't seen before on RPnation. These rules have been tested over the course of a few months and we've had a lot of success over it. Please stand by to read the explanations of each rule!
Please let me know what roles you are interested in!

Rules
Rule 1
Basic RPN rules. No marysues, be nice, listen to others, accept that your character might fail at something.
Rule 2
Everyone be 18+. Due to bad experiences when I was a minor roleplaying with an adult, I am personally uncomfortable with roleplaying with minors. Please understand.
Rule 3
First come is not first serve. We prioritize writing chemistry over writing ability and we are going to take in multiple factors during the selection process. That said, no matter your skill level, please be free to submit a character sheet! Before we begin the roleplay we will have a week long one-shot that will dictate who leaves and who stays. Please do not take it personally if you aren't picked, we are achieving for a small scale roleplay.
Rule 4
To improve the flow and speed, there is no minimum post requirement and we encourage your posts to be shorter, with exceptions such as: scene starting posts, dramatic posts, etc.
HOWEVER, your character needs to be active to the plot and they can't sit around all day. We also will need descriptions to work with and we will ask if you could include some where it is missing, but please be mindful to describe what other players can use. Examples: What your character may be wearing, what the food they make might taste like, the color and material of the blanket they have
Rule 5
As shown by the past few rules, this is will be a very casual roleplay, but we still expect readable grammar.
Rule 6
Have a regular posting schedule, the specifics of this will be defined by everyone's time zones once the recruitment process is over. This goes hand to hand with the no posting requirement.
Rule 7
Do not discuss character details or your plans that have not yet been revealed in character with the participants of the roleplay. This is to keep intrigue and longevity we may have for your characters. The exception to this is if you're planning something such as a character of someone else getting permanently injured or your character kissing theirs. Otherwise, you do not need to ask them if your character can hold hands or slap their character.
Rule 8
Your posts do not have overly revealing internal monologue except for rare instances. You are free to have an unreliable narrator in your posts, as long as it makes sense.
Rule 9
This is an LGBTQ+ accepting environment. If you do not agree with this, please do not join. Have a nice day.
