Arael

Resident Old Guy
It was a cold November afternoon In Ravenwood, A small town not far from Surprise, Arizona. School had already let out but still I stood there with a basketball under my arm looking up at the cloudy sky letting the cold rain dance on my skin, I looked over only because I heard the sound of shuffling there she was my best friend for as long as I could remember Catalina, as she stood there waiting for me to continue the game her black her which was usually curly or beautifully framing her face but now it was soaked and a bit flattened on her head and I wouldn't hear the end of this during the walk home, I could never figure it out we were both the same age, got the same grades but I always thought that she was somehow more different than I was but I could never figure it out.

Just as I was about to open my mouth to speak the unthinkable happened, two hooded figures appeared in the parking lot not far from us, we all stood in silence until the taller figure spoke up "Chosen.. today is the day you die." He smiled the most crooked smile I've ever seen, his teeth were the most horrid color ever and things just got worse and a lot more weird when the short, chubby figure spoke in a language that sounded a bit familiar to me "Portae hellm prodire me ad bestiam, et evocant infernum canibus." His words tugged at something inside of me, almost as if I knew how to stop what he was doing but I couldn't I was paralyzed at what happened next. A dark green portal opened followed by the familiar sound of a large gate opening and in front of the men and two hellish looking dogs stepped forward, growling, the saliva from their fangs melting the pavement as they stepped forward closing in on the both of us.

I had zero time to react so I grabbed Catalina's wrist and took off towards the school. I made the mistake of looking back catching only a glipse of the beast jumping at me, and that's when everything seemed to stop around me, I caught a glimpse of the other beast, hoping I wouldn't but the sight was worse than I'd imagined. I saw between it's large jaws Catalna, she was bleeding from her sidesand had lifeless eyes. The horrible smell from acid like saliva and blood tainted the air around me but there was nothing I could do as I watched the hound close in on me.

But something in me kicked in something I'd never felt before it was like someone had just shocked me with 5Miliamp, either I'd gone crazy or life was just making less sense I held out my hand with my palm facing the hound in mid air and whispered the words "ventilabis" and to my surprise the beast was forced back a good few feet before hitting the wet, dark pavement hard .

I took this chance to quickly regain myself and duck off behind the dull tan school building, trying to recollect myself and figure out what the hell just happened.

(Alrighty here it is, just a warning a majority of spells will be in Latin just because it's an awesome language and makes things more interesting, New spells will be written in Blue so please do check the notes for extra info on them. and new monsters will be in Red so watch the neutral thread. And one last thing you can post in any way I was just using first person for the beginning.)

Umi had just rounded the corner shuffling a stack of books in her hands as she tried to adjust the purple scarf around her lithe neck. Kaida squawked noisily as she circled the girl's head before landing on her shoulder. Looking at her Raven the girl gave a look of confusion then looked forward to see a boy hiding behind a wall, panting. Taking a deep breath she furrowed her brow and pursed her lips due to her nervous nature. Her shoes echoes on the sidewalk interrupting the silence around them. As she approached the boy she noticed how he was panting and saw a bead of sweat glide from his brow down his cheek.

She cleared her throat, "Ahhemm." Umi stared at the boy with worried eyes, "Are you alright?" Her white Raven cawed and flapped it's wings at him. The girl raised a graceful hand to sooth her companion, who responded by leaning it's beak into her palm and rubbed it affectionately.

Quinn was never on time, and usually never showed up at all. It felt weird to her that people could spend their time rushing around just to fit other peoples schedules. She made her own time, and spent it how she wanted. School always seemed like such nonsense to her. She understood the concept, understood the ideas, but could never understand the people who enjoyed it. She had decided to escape up to the field just outside of the school. At the time it had seemed like a better idea then snoozing off in her history class. There wasn't much there, just a small old laboratory that no one came out to anymore. It was nice on sunny days but as soon as the rain started to fall the old roof couldn't help but collapse in on itself. She was quickly sketching a few things in her notebook, finding relief in the drawings. She had been sitting in a small opening, surrounded by old bottles, and pungent chemicals when she first felt the rain pouring down on her face. Closing up her spiral, and grabbing her stuff, she began to walk back towards the school.

For some reason she loved the rain, and the somber atmosphere it created. It gave her a sense of belonging, and she enjoyed every moment of it. Listening to the raindrops she heard something break the silence. Looking behind her she could have sworn she saw something roaming behind the school grounds. It seemed almost demonic in its movements. She couldn't place it but it almost reminded her of something she had been drawing moments before. Walking up the hill she heard the bell ring, signaling her back to reality. Ignoring the encounter she took the longest route to her locker, located near the back of the school. Not very many people were out, and those who were seemed frantic to get where they needed to go. Quinn took her time, beginning to aimlessly wander around. She noticed a boy and a girl which wasn't unusual at all. What was unusual was that the boy seemed so rushed, and so scared that he practically looked like he was about to fall over. "This should be interesting," Quinn mumbled to herself, watching the series of events unfold from behind a pillar.

I was breathing heavily as I slid down the cold wall, hitting the wet pavement as I held my head in my hands trying to make sense of what just happened "Get it together, Ethan." I kept trying to convince myself it wasn't real and that this was just some horrible nightmare but the sad reality was that it was all real. Tears burned in my eyes but I just couldn't allow myself to cry not right now while those things were still after me.

I was shaken from my thoughts by the sound of squawking and footsteps on the pavement, my first thought being that one if the men had found me but the sound of a females voice calmed me down slightly. I looked up noticing a girl with a white raven perched on her shoulderI quickly rose to my feet not trying to look like a complete baby in front of her "N..no I'm not alright, in fact I think I'm going crazy." I couldn't even finish the rest of my sentence before the familiar foul odor filled the air, followed by both of the large hounds sharply turning the corner.

Fear struck me as I made slight eye contact with one of them. The black pavement seemed to almost burn underneath them as they closed in on us snarling savagely, much like before I held my hand out trying to mimic my actions from before but the only problem was I'd forgotten the word I used before. Slowly backing away trying to keep a good distance as they continued to creep forward.

Umi smelt them before she saw them, someone had unleashed hell hounds. Two of them rounded the corner, Umi's eyes widened at the sight of them, Kaida hissed at them puffing out it's feathers and expanding it's wings to appear larger. The boy stumbled away from the wall, his face gone pale.

The large beasts crouched down and stalked the boy preparing to pounce. Ethan shakily raised his hand out in front of him and froze as the creatures starred him down taking one taunting step at a time leaving a trail of ember paw prints in it's wake. Umi's blue-green eyes glowered to an ominous black and her Raven propelled itself from her shoulder cawing madly at the large black monsters. She dropped her books and stomped her way to stand in front of the boy, her dress and shall flowing behind her. She extended her own arm, exposing the many different beaded crystals she wore around her wrists that rattled as she moved and a small tribal tattoo on the inside of her forearm. Taking a deep breath, she drew on the power of her dark bloodline and snarled back at the beasts, holding her hand out like a claw. Her voice echoing as if many voices escaped her lips

"Dimittite! Quod hic meus sit!" The creatures hesitated and became confused. The white raven flew above them and cawed angrily at them as a rumbling filled the air, "Autem!" She commanded flinging her clawed hand at them again, lightning striking by the one to her left.

The dogs yipped and howled as they turned tail and ran in the opposite direction. Umi watched keeping her arm extended till they had disappeared at a safe distance.

Quickly she turned on Ethan, her eyes changing back from black to her normal eye color and grabbed his wrist transferring one of her crystal bracelets to his, "Don't lose this," she instructed, her voice back to normal, but she was shaking. Kaida had flown back to it's human flapping it's wings as it perched back on her shoulder. "Follow me." she said as she bent down to pick up her now damp books, "Awe man," she pouted quietly to herself.

SHIRO

"Kuro please!" Shiro shouted into the phone heads tured to the young Asian girl. She looked around the hotel lobby her face turning a bright shade of pink. She turned away from the stares an whispered "please Kuro don't do this to our family. Don't do this to us. Please I love you." There was a long pause, the sound of white noise cracked through the phones. After a long period the other line spoke " ......Goodbye." The line cut off and a beep signified the call had ended. Shiro stood there for a moment holding the phone to her ear. Then it fell to the ground and cracked. Shiro slumped down to the floor in shock. That was it. That was the last I will ever hear from my sister. No it can't be! Shiro picked up th cracked phone and frantically redialed the number. She placed the phone to her ear and hears the empty electronic woman's voice. "We're sorry but the number you have dialed is not in service it yo-" Shiro didn't need to listen to anymore, it was done her sister was gone, forever.

Three years later

Shiro walked out of her apartment in the city. "And make sure this time you don’t eat all of the pickled plums!" A distant "yeah, yeah" could be heard as Shiro closed and locked the door. "Seriously of all the roommates why do I get the one who had no boundaries when it comes to food?" She huffed and made her way downstairs to the parking lot. She made her way to her adorable rose pink bug and got in. She pulled out of the parking lot and made her way down the streets. Her phone began to buzz. She fumbled around for a moment before picking it up. "Hello? Shiro speaking." A effeminate male voice came from th other end "Shiro darling!" She smiled as she turned the corner "Simon! Hey! What's wrong? Today is my day off, I can't come into the magazine today." She honked her horn at the slow driver in front of her. Simoney chuckled "oh it's nothing like that dear, I just wanted to see how you were doing."

"Uh huh" She said wondering what his true intentions were.

"No really! I just wanted to know about you. I mean it's not every day that I get to work with the heiress of a multi billion company." Shiro rolled her eyes so that is what this is about. I swear daddy had the worst timing in showing his face to the public. I know it was to find Kuro, but she's been gone for 3 years. She's not coming back on her own. Shiro turned off at the intersection. and onto the highway towoards Ravenwood. At least not willingly. "Simon I'm getting on th highway so I'll call you later."

"Oh okay don't forg-" She hung up and tossed her phone into the passengers seat. "Jesus I swear money drives everyone crazy." She had been, trying to live a normal life in the city and with this news about her father being a billionair her normal life was thrown out the window. But she didn't have time to think about herself she was off to visit an old friend for a cup of tea and more importantly news about her sister. Shiro made her way to the Ravenwood exit and jeered to a stop. " No not an accident!" Traffic was at a standstill. Shiro groaned and slammed her head against the steering wheel "ugh I'm going to be late...." She leaned back in her seat and looked out to the window into the cloudy sky "happy birthday to me."

KURO

"In further news Tadashi announced himself to the public. Some ask wonder why now? It is speculated that this was an attempt to bring out his missing daughter Ku-" The sound cut off as the radio was turned off. A white haired girl slowly got up and yawned. She got up and walked past the chained and gagged man in her room. Not speaking a word she made her way to the bathroom and got ready. The man began to wriggle and move trying to break free from the chains. He froze as the water stopped running. His heart beat a mile a minute as he waited for her to come out. After a long pause the sounds of the sink could be heard from the bathroom door. The man sighed and began to pull at his chains hoping to break the wood at the base. When he was almost there he heard a creak. He went pale, the sound of the sink water rushing couldn't be heard. He turned hid head to see the girl in a towel and a toothbrush in her mouth. She looked down at him her eyes glowing with playful facination.

The girl smiled at him and began to walk over to him. The man frantically pulled at the base. He tugged until the wood broke with a loud crack. The man didn't hesitate he charged the girl. The raised her hand and touched his forehead. "Ventilabis" The man went flying towards the wall. His head connected with the hard concrete and he slid to the floor unconscious. The girl smiled and pulled out some clothes out of the dresser. She turned to the unconscious man ans smiled "no peaking" then got dressed.

When she was ready her cellphone rang. "Yeah?"

"Is he captured?" A deep voice asked. "Yeah, I have him. He's not going to be going anywhere I bound him to the room. Even if he broke the chains." The girl glared down at the unconscious man and kicked his foot.

"Alright I'm sending a pickup crew to your location. I need you to head to Ravenwood, you have a job there."

Her lips curled into a dark girn, "a new job? How fun. Hopefully they will put up a better fight than the last one."

"Oh they will."

"They? I like it even more now."

"Kuro.."

The girl perked up as he called her by name. This was important " what is it?"

"Try to keep the damage to a minimum these are undeclared targets. We need them to trust us."

Kuro rolled her eyes "yeah, yeah, just get me my copter."

"Already on the roof."

She smiled and hung up and left the apartment and up the stairs to the roof acess. She looked out at the illuminated city of Tokyo and smiled "happy birthday to me."

(So about us meeting up..?)

I sat outside the door to my Father's house. The old oak door was falling apart and the paint was peeling. It seemed that a piece of the broken wood was blocking the way in. I could easily kick it in, but that would mean they would need a new door. Ugggh... I sighed to myself and pouted. Can dad please just get here?? I'm freezing! I wrapped my pale yellow sweatshirt around me, hugging myself. I slid the sleeves down to my palms, beginning to notice my hands turning red. It was cold and rainy and the house of hers was more rot then it was house. The roof over the deck was leaking and not only was I cold, I was now wet.

The house I've lived in since I was 9 was a run down place that used to be somewhat of a mansion. My father bought it in the hopes of fixing it up and either keeping it or selling it for more. As you know, this didn't happen...

"Damnit, dad! Pick up!" I yelled into my phone, trying to sound angry, but in a begging way.

My lip trembled as I felt an icy rush sinking into my bones. I was steadily growing more and more soaked. I grouped and decided that I needed to move and get some blood flowing. Taking a few breaths in, I ran from the porch, out in the rain, and down the street into town.

***

I painted and had to stop, my body almost on fire. Well, that certainly did the trick. But I was only warm on the inside. On the outside I was soaked and growing steadily more miserable. Sure, I liked looking at the rain, but I didn't like being wet. I took this time to look around and notice I had no idea where I was. Uh-oh. The rain started getting stronger and I was getting wetter. I looked down the street and made sure there weren't any cars befire I ran to a patch of trees on the other side of the street. They served as adequate shelter, ish.

I could feel my jaw literally drop as the girl stepped in front of me. Her raven cawing angrily at the hounds as she said something in a language much like the one I spoke, whatever it was it caused the hounds to back up a little but she topped it all off by causing lightning to strike near one of them. Right now I had so many questions but only one came out of my mouth "W..what are you?" Even hearing it myself made it sound very harsh to begin with but who was I to even judge hell what was I?.

I felt and unfamiliar object on my right wrist, looking down I saw that one of her crystal charms had made it's way onto me somehow. Another question was about to slip out of my mouth but I got that feeling again I could sense the overwhelming energy behind me, it was closer than before and as dumb as it was I turned my head slowly only to find myself looking up at the shorter hooded figure from before. His crooked smile striking a mixture of fear and rage into my heart but it was his voice that made rage overcome the fear. "Leaving so soon?, the party's just getting started. "

Party? Was this guy crazy or something nothing about this was even remotely close to fun, I could feel the anger building up inside of me as the images of Catalina's lifeless body flashed through my mind. I'd finally been pushed to the limit, launching myself back I quickly rose to my feet and without a second thought I raised my hand out towards the still smiling figure whispering the words once again "Ventilabis." And once like before the invisible force flew towards the figure but only to be stopped dead in its tracks "He stopped it like it was nothing."

Now two figures stood only a few feet away from us. The short one cackling a very nasally laugh "This is the legendary power of the Pentagram? oay close attention child this is how masters cast..Ventilabis." Only holding out a single stuby finger the force of his spell knocked me back a good distance and into one of the light poles which gave a weak groan before falling over completely. My whole body ached especially my head and I only made it worse by attempting to move I caught one last glimpse of the scene the girl and her raven facing those two men and someone not far from me who seemed to be watching it all unfold, I started to yell for help but my body wouldn't respond it just gave up on me as everything went black.

(Not dead! Just temporarily unconscious okay not dead.)
