Childhood Friends

This is a 1x1 between DethbyCoffee and @Saaaaaarah

Childhood friends. Known each other for as long as they could remember. Now it was time for college, and they each went their separate ways to fulfill separate life goals.

He went to California State University Long Beach for a major in journalism.

She went to Yale University for a major in -Insert Major here-.

At first they kept in contact regularly, but as time passed, it became harder and harder in their studies to find time to talk. Eventually, by their third term, they had stopped talking completely. Occasionally, their old friend would come to mind, and they'd consider trying to contact the other, but kept putting it off.

Someone or something would distract them, and they'd never get to it.

It's been six years since they had last seen each other, and somehow, they've ended up in the same city. Detroit. One fateful night, they run into each other at a local club, but neither recognizes the other. Drinks are exchanged, and they dance the night away. All leading up to them getting a hotel room and having a drunken 1 night stand. No names were exchanged.

Over time, they continued to run into each other at the bar. Neither asked a name, but each encounter ended much the same as their first. A drunken night, no strings attached.

A few weeks (or a month) pass, and he's given the task of interviewing a local -professional- who -insert accomplishment-. He recognizes the name and wonders if it could be his old friend, but is skeptical.

She is told of her interview and thinks much the same as he did. Could it be? So he calls her to set up the interview, and she asks if he went to CSA Long beach, and remembered her. He laughs, and tells her he does remember her, and they chat for over an hour on the phone.

What will happen when they meet for the interview and discover they had been meeting for a night together for weeks, showing sides of themselves they would never have shown if they knew they were talking to their childhood friend?

((I figure for character development, we'll start kind of where they've met up a couple times already, but haven't learned they're old friends yet))

Another day, another dollar. Jason thought absently to himself as he walked into his small apartment. He dropped his keys, an ipod, and a newspaper on the counter as he passed by his small kitchen area and down the short hallway. Maybe today I'll get a really good story to impress my boss? He pondered curiously as he walked into his bedroom. Clothes lay abandoned in a pile by the door, another wad of clothing sat unfolded on the corner of his large bed. He glanced at the clock on the wall. It wasn't even late enough to call it afternoon yet. He sighed, and kicked off his running shoes. He yanked off his sweat soaked shirt, and dropped it on the pile beside the door before peeling off his socks to deposit as well. "Get some work done. Maybe clean a little?" he pondered aloud to the silence that filled his apartment. He wiped his sweaty hands on his jeans and moved to the desk in the corner of the room. He hit the power button on his laptop that sat, open, and blank.

While he waited for his laptop to load up, he moved over to the ball of clothes on his bed, and rifled through them. He noted silently that he should really fold all this and put it away, but shrugged it off for later. If there was one thing he procrastinated worse on, it was cleaning. He located a clean, fairly wrinkled shirt, and a new pair of pants. He glanced at his laptop. "I'll take a shower before I get to work." he muttered, and turned from his bedroom, back down the short hall, and into the single apartment bathroom. He tossed his clean clothes over the closed toilet seat, and stripped off his pants, kicking them over to the other pile of dirty laundry. "I really really should do laundry." he muttered, and turned on the shower.

In just a few short hours, he had showered, started some laundry, tidied up a bit, and was now curled on his tiny couch, laptop in hand. A cup of coffee sat on the table beside him. Click. Click. Click. He flipped through his work email. Nothing? He sighed, and closed out his internet browser. "So, no work today. That sucks." he muttered as he shut down his computer and set it on the coffee table. He looked at the clock again. Almost dinner time. He hopped up from his place on the couch, and stretched, groaning from the effort. "I think I'll go to the club tonight. If I don't have to work, then I might as well enjoy myself." he grinned as he moved back toward his bedroom. He grabbed a fresh pair of socks, and donned his black boots. He patted his pockets, checking that he had his wallet, and then headed back toward the main living area of his apartment. He grabbed up his keys, and headed out the door, stopping to make sure it was locked up tight before piling into his car.

It didn't take him long to pass through a local burger joint for a quick dinner, and then pulled into the club. It was early enough that most patrons hadn't crowded the place yet, which meant he'd have prime seating at the bar to listen in to the early arrivals. He tucked away his small note pad and pen, then climbed from his car. He let the door slam closed, and approached the building. "Hey." he said lightly to the bartender as he piled onto a stool, asking for a soda. It was still to early to really start drinking. He'd wait for the real fun to begin before he'd start to drink. He peered around the room and listened to idle chatter, drawing small doodles in his notepad to pass the time.
