Name: James “Zach” Kaysen

Gender: Male

Age: 31

Appearance:

63a0f265e209a9f181649d0d9f891053.jpg

Element: Fire

Affinity: Apprentice

Personality: A man who approaches his work with an infectious twitchy energy and enthusiasm, Kaysen enjoys his time around corpses just a little too much - and lives for his work; always pursuing the next big mystery with a skip in his step and a rather inappropriate smile on his face. Oddly charming in his awkwardness but still somewhat socially inept, Kaysen has few friends - many are off put by his odd fascination with the macabre and his absolute insistence on telling people he’s just met about how to calculate the age of a dead bodies and the dozens of grizzly investigations he’s completed in his time.
Kaysen - despite his brilliance - is actually a rather quiet and shy when pressed into social situations and has a difficult time connecting to others in a deep way. This mostly stems from his fear of getting attached to people he may lose, having lost several close friends when he worked for the Chicago Police Department.

A passionate man, Kaysen loves movies, art and has a love for history and language. He will often happily ramble about movie trivia or regale those who are willing to listen with useless historical facts. He’s awful with self care, and usually requires prodding to remember to eat and sleep. Though he is also oddly picky when it comes to food.

History: Born to Sarah and Harvey Kaysen - James Kaysen revealed an inquisitive - but easily distracted mind - at an early age. He performed poorly in class, finding most of the subjects a dull affair, but somehow always managed to achieve excellent grades. Kaysen however, showed little interest in improving his magical abilities - only studying how to control his fire to the government standard before putting it aside to pursue other interests such as literature and History.

After graduating, Kaysen eagerly enrolled in the CPD - and though his arrest record and general performance was exemplary, Kaysen found himself to be an unpopular man with both his colleagues and superiors. He had a habit of involving himself in the cases of others and solving them without their knowledge as well as constantly and loudly announcing how clever he was and how much better he could run the department.

Kaysen left the CPD a year later, working in counter intelligence for the American Government during the Great War before returning to Chicago and - appalled by the rapidly decline of his home - opened his own Private Investigation Agency: “Kaysens”

Skills/Notable Abilities: Perceptive and fiendishly clever, Kaysen has spent almost two decades coming to understand the criminal mind. He is a phenomenal detective and has a baffling tenacity to pursue each case with terrifying obsession until he finds the answers he craves.

A crack shot, thanks to his history with the CPD and Military. He is also surprisingly strong, despite his wiry frame and is very athletic.

Notable Belongings:

Webley Revolver - Kaysen’s firearm, and one he’s merrily used for almost nine years. Reliable. Also very loud.

Packet of Cigarettes - A chain Smoker, Kaysen has difficulty focussing and becomes increasingly tetchy if he hasn’t gone through an entire packet by dinner.

Note Book - Kaysen is always scrawling notes in his little pocket book. And sometimes drawings. Usually rather violent and bloody ones at that.

Social Class/Community Standing:

Middle class and with an excellent reputation for getting things done, Kaysen also suffers from the fact that most people also believe he’s a bit of a weirdo.

Family/Pets: Kaysen is always quiet when it comes to discussing his family, but will happily regale anyone who asks about his old family Dog - Butters.

Name: Marcus McAllister

Gender: Male

Age: 22

Element: Electricity

Affinity: Apprentice

Personality: Though hard-nosed in his own way, Marcus is generally something of a fast-talking, chipper, up-beat sort, determined in a not-so-overbearing way. He enjoys talking (and depending on who you ask, enjoys hearing himself talk), and has taken rather quickly to his new position as a newspaper writer for the Chicago Sentinel, one of the city's major daily papers. His journalistic traits have led to him taking special interests in the business of other people, even when his job doesn't actually mandate such, making him equal parts good helper and general annoyance, depending on who you ask.

History: Marcus was born on the McAllister family farm in southern Ohio to Martin and Josephine McAllister (earth and electricity aspected, respectively), at the time the youngest of three brothers. Unlike his siblings, Marcus did not take readily to roughhousing (though he was still capable enough for a younger brother), but enjoyed working with his father on some of the farm equipment. When Marcus's father joined the army during the Great War, Marcus, with the help of his oldest brother, taught himself how to read so that he could keep up with the war's progress, becoming the earliest reader of the McAllister family, until Marcus himself went on to teach his younger sister, born nearly a year after his father went off to war.

Though Martin McAllister lived long enough for his family to welcome him back to the farm in 1918, lingering complications from a bullet wound eventually ended his life after declining health over the course of half a year. The family farm began to struggle as a result, with the family managing to stay afloat bit by bit from year to year. At 19 years old, Marcus convinced his mother to allow him to take his personal savings and buy a bus ticket to Chicago in hopes of finding a more lucrative city job. After his older brothers assured their mother that they'd be able to hold down the farm work with the help of their sister, who had inherited their father's rare earthen affinity, Josephine relented, and Marcus made his way to Chicago in hopes of fortune, though he couldn't care less for fame.

Following several failed attempts to establish himself, Marcus managed to curry the favor of Owen Mallory, the Editor In Chief of the Chicago Sentinel, through repeatedly bothering him on his way into the Sentinel Building in downtown Chicago. Marcus's story of wanting to avoid the hazards of electrical grid work struck a chord with Owen, who decades before had resolved to claw his way up from a freelance post at the Sentinel as opposed to spending his life doing sewer-work.

Owen begrudgingly took the boy under his wing, teaching him the ins-and-outs of the newspaper world and starting Marcus as a print technician. From there, he moved on to pushing papers and sorting stories, before eventually managing to get a writing desk of his own on the upper floors of the Sentinel building. Having held his new station for a few months, Marcus is quickly setting his sights on bigger and better stories, hoping to find the right piece of news to truly catapult his writing career.

Occupation: Journalist for the Chicago Sentinel.

Skills/Notable Abilities: Marcus has quite a way with words, making him a slick talker and a quick liar. He is also surprisingly quick and nimble on account of his light (yet easily bruisable) frame and sharp reflexes. His minor amount of time spent with farm machinery and printing presses has made him a decent mechanical tinkerer. Other than this, however, Marcus doesn't have much going for him; as a young man in a new city, there's only so much he knows.

Notable Belongings/Equipment: Marcus's most prized possession is his Deckard & Weston brand typewriter that sits at his desk in his apartment. He bought it with nearly all his savings after reaching Chicago in order to have a shot at joining the Sentinel (as well as quicken the process of writing letters home to his family). He always keeps two pads of paper, one pen, and one pencil in his pockets, along with his wallet and card, in case someone questions his station as a journalist. When on the job, he'll also occasionally take a Polaroid camera with him, on loan from the Sentinel.

Social Class/Community Standing: Working class.

Family/Pets: Though Marcus's father died from infection near the end of the Great War, his mother, two older brothers, and younger sister all maintain the McAllister family farm in Ohio. In a sense, Owen treats Marcus as something of a son, in a gruff, bossy sort of way.

Musical Theme: Toshiyuki Honda -- Metropolis

Additional Notes:

-- Since Marcus comes from a family of electrical affiliation, he has never dealt with kerosene lamps. Before arriving in Chicago, he didn't even know what they were supposed to smell like.

-- Marcus greatly enjoys bike riding, but was unable to bring his bike to the city, much to his disappointment.

-- Marcus's favorite film is Harold Lloyd's Safety Last! The story of a young man coming to the city for a high-paying job might even have inspired his desire to move to Chicago.

Werner Geiger "Warner MacGyver"
Ernest_Rutherford_LOC.jpg

Gender: Male

Age: 43

Element: Earth

Affinity: Apprentice (Partially Journeyman if he is manipulating the rock that makes up his arm.)

Personality:
Werner Geiger is as pessimistic and pragmatic as you can get. He never sees the good in things, with him perceiving everything as negative and thinking that everyone is out to get him. He is very rude, hateful and incredibly irritable, with him snapping at people he does not even know regularly. He has huge trust issues which has contributed in his isolation from society. This was largely created by the betrayal that he felt once his job was taken away from him after he risked his life to fight for the very land that gave the job to him. He hates drawing conversations out and has not really had a proper one in years. Werner is ultimately a broken man who is trying to cling to the very pride that was taken from him, with him losing more and more hope as time goes on.

History:
Werner Geiger was born to a middle class family in Germany with him being bestowed upon the somewhat rare magic of earth. However, it was rare only to the rest of the world, as Germany had more earth users on average. Regardless of that fact, He was absolutely terrible at using it, with him lacking any proficiency. It had been this way for his entire childhood and once he got sick of all the ridicule, he decided that he wanted to dedicate his life to improving his own earth magic and helping in the scientific development of earth magic over all.

He continued onward with his dream as he pretty much did nothing but rigorously study earth magic and train his very proficiency. The earlier stages of his studies were quite easy, with the later ones becoming incredibly daunting to accomplish. He could effectively manipulate rocks, but he almost always had immense difficulty with transmuting parts of his body into stone. But after enough hard work, he was able to receive a diploma and was recognized as a scholar of earth magic.

The tensions brewing in Europe meant that there would be some sort of conflict arising. With them being centered around Germany, Werner anticipated a war which lead him to moving to the US. With the growing anti-German sentiment, he decided to adopt the name, "Warner Geiver", so as to not squander opportunities. He wanted his parents to come with him, so as to save their lives, but their nationalistic attitude combined with their patriotism lead to them staying in Germany. Leaving his parents was one of the hardest things he ever had to do. Hearing that the war actually broke out while he was working in the US, was one of the most devastating things he had ever heard.

In his time in the US, Werner wanted to work as a scholar. His application was accepted by the University of Chicago. The amount of Earth professors were not too much, which meant that he would be assigned to more of a teaching role. Despite him wanting to do more research, he was still satisfied with him getting a well paying job relatively quickly. It seemed that all of his work had paid off. The years that he was teaching were arguably the best moments in his life, with him meeting incredibly bright individuals in the forms of his students and with him being respected and recognized for his accomplishments.

At one point, there was a mining trip that was funded by the US government which a few Earth scholars were invited to take part in. With him being among the respected Earth scholars, he was naturally one of those asked. The miners that were working there were Apprentices at best, which is why they needed the very best to figure out what was going. A weird disturbance was in the tunnel if you went deep enough, with a very loud humming noise along with immense heat waves repeatedly. Werner detected a rare mineral that was unlike anything he had ever felt before, with him and the other scholars carefully extracting it. It was a huge body of mass, made of an element the like of which were not identified by any scientific body at the time. Each person took a piece and took it back to their respective universities, with them wanting to study it further, with them thinking that it could lead to major developments that could cause a breakthrough which would change a lot about how Earth is understood, possibly linking it with fire magic as well. Werner had taken an extra, smaller piece in addition to the one he brought to the university. He worked on this project during the day at the university, and the night with the piece he had for himself, with him dedicating almost all of his spare time to it. However, when he was closest to a breakthrough, he was drafted by the army to fight in the war.

He was a very key player within his squad, with his expertise allowing him to shine in making earth walls and such to defend his comrades from incoming fire. The environment of the war was still something very new to him however, leading to him being scared quite often. Despite being this big, earth magic using, tough guy, he was arguably the most squeamish. He forged onward and decided to go along with this war, for the promise of researching the mineral he had found. Whilst defending his comrades, a long ranged ice attack from a sniper had struck his arm, completely freezing it off. He fainted as the entire arm was no longer useful.

Werner quickly used some earth to cover this fact up, with him creating an arm made of rock for himself to use. From then on, he always wore clothing with long sleeves and had a leather glove on him at all times for his fake arm. Returning home from the war, his welcomings were not as warm as he had wanted them to be. His position was taken from him, with the board thinking that his trauma within the war would lead to him no longer being qualified for teaching, let alone research. He was absolutely devastated, as even the rare mineral project was taken away from him. He continued the research with the piece he had on hand, with hopes of figuring it out and revolutionizing the world of earth magic. But that hope meant nothing as he just could not do any more research within the cramped apartment he was given. Now the rock lays on some corner of his room, a memento of his failures and how far he had fallen. At the very least, the heat it gives off means that Werner is freezing to death on colder days.

Now, Werner is just another man trying his best to get by, with all of his hopes, dreams and aspirations being taken away from him. This destruction of his spirit had consequences. His earth magic had gotten significantly worse. His proficiency at manipulating his arm remained the same, with him being able to move chunks and pieces to simulate fingers and whatnot effectively and being able to control earth that came from his arm. However, he struggles doing the very basic things when interacting with earth that he is not familiar with. Him not being conscripted for farming due to how ineffective his magic was absolutely destroyed what little confidence he had. With him living on the poorer sides of the town, he takes time out of his day to teach the basics of Earth magic to the poorer portion of the incoming refugees and immigrants that use Earth magic. He does it for free and gets next to no money from doing so, with him doing it as a way to retain his old self. He still feels like he is alone and hated, despite being liked and adored by those he teaches now.

Occupation: Day to Day worker doing whatever he can to get money.

Skills/Notable Abilities:
Incredible knowledge of magic, specifically earth.
Great Intelligence (Trauma along with other mental issues combined with his position within the university being taken away from him, has caused this intelligence to wane over the years.)
Very Strong (With him having to do more labor intensive jobs, he has been relying on his body which meant that he has been getting stronger. Training Earth Magic is also more Physically demanding than other types of magic.)
Can't get any more depressed.

Notable Belongings/Equipment:
His Right Arm - Despite him being left handed, he still predominantly uses his right hand. With him losing his right hand in the war, Werner replaced it with earth. He is constantly using his magic to manipulate the rocks in his arm to fully simulate an actual one, with him wearing long sleeves and gloves so as to hide this fact. After doing this for so long, it got to the point where the earth that made up his arm is the only one he has true control over, with him struggling on the very basics with any other piece of earth.
Flask - He carries this everywhere. It is filled with the cheapest, strong alcohol he can find and he just drinks whenever he feels like doing so. However, with money being a little bit scarce he has been drinking less and less.
His PhD diploma in Earth Magic.
An antique hunting rifle bought for him as a birthday present by his students.
A small piece of a rare mineral

Social Class/ Community Standing: He is a part of the middle class but he has hit hard times recently. His presence is appreciated and he is respected within the small community of refugees and immigrants that have been taught by him.

Family/Pets:
His parents did not move with him to the US which meant that the war lead to their death. With him dedicating his life to studying earth magic, he did not have time to create a family. He is alone.

Belle Socorro

/
"OH DARLING I'M DELIGHTED!"

Name: Belle Socorro
Gender: Female
Age: 28

Appearance: Belle is a woman of 5'5" with black, slick hair cut to reveal a full, innocent face. Sparkling hazel eyes, set far within their sockets, watch admiringly over the world. Soft skin gracefully compliments her hair and cheekbones and leaves a compelling memory of her youth. There's something odd about her, perhaps it's her gentleness or perhaps it's simply her sense of amiability. But nonetheless, people tend to pretend to be her friend, while learning as much about her as possible.

Element: She has magic, but it won't be specified since she particularly doesn't use it.
Affinity: NOVICE

Occupation: Currently doesn't have one.

Skills/Notable Abilities: Belle doesn't particulary have much skills, as she was very much sheltered by her family and community--although her attentive eyes are something she is known for, as she very much loves picking out the detail in things.

Notable Belongings/Equipment: She has a small handgun entrusted to her from her father at a young age. She also carries her mother's dainty pearls that she wears too often.

Social Class/ Community Standing: Supposedly Rich.
;;;
"BOO HOO ON YOU!"

Personality: Looks are definitely not deceiving when it comes Belle, but most know that above all else she's sweet and freethinking. Of course she's also adaptable, exciting and humorous, but these are in a way balance by being extreme as well. Being outgoing, social and open, Belle does not like being alone. She can be very easy to read but warm-hearted and popular, but tends to put the needs of others over her own needs. Group oriented, affectionate, complimentary, loving, considerate, and altrusic. Her sweet nature though, this is what she's kind of cherished for. Oftentimes people will count on this and her eccentric ways when they're feeling down. Nobody's perfect of course and Belle has a fair share of lesser days too. Her naive and childish nature aren't exactly fun to deal with and just affect all around negatively. Fortunately her freethinking helps prevent most of these grievances.

History: There really is no record of Belle's history, as she mainly stays quietly in her flat. She is a mess of emotions, although her sass seems to be her favourite. Belle seems to have the upright posture of a person of importance. She claims that she was sent to boarding school at a young age, and therefore raised to be proper and prim. Her parents were academic people, so her intelligence wasn't very far from the tree, even mentioning that she was educated by overhearing her parents talking about politics in their conversations. Now she lives in the city with her butler she had aquired, in a hidden flat decorated to her liking, where she searches for someone to love.

Family/Pets: Beatrice Wallace and David Socorro (Mother and Father),
Snuggles (pet Corgi)

Name
Zeth Forssa

Gender
M
ale

Age
T
wenty-Nine

Element
I
ce

Affinity
J
ourneyman

Personality
Zeth has always been a man of few words. A man should take care of himself and stay out of people's business, that's what he was raised to believe anyway. One could say that his father tried to make him a harsh man, but in truth both Zeth and his late father respected things like loyalty, honesty, helping those who couldn't help themselves and not making life rough for anyone. That said, they both also ended up broken optimists, what with the war and all.

It certainly changed things, anyway. Never had he experienced hunger or thirst like that which he experienced in the gutters, and poverty could drive anyone to compromising their morals. This environment led him to a side of himself which he had never before seen, a rebellious ember that occasionally blazed in his eyes. Especially when he managed something that led to inconveniences for those living the luxurious life he once used to be a part of, or when he protected those few unfortunate who innocently ended up before the barrel of a corrupt cop. When he no longer had anything left from his old life to lose, sticking his neck out for those in need became the only thing left to truly live for.

History
Before the war, at a large country-side mansion lived the prestigious Forssa family. We had Henrik Forssa, current patriarch and renowned politician. Amalia Forssa, wife to Nils and popular seamstress. Bartholomew Forssa, English merchant that revolutionized the Swedish iron market and summarily married himself into the family. Well, the list goes on. It was no surprise that Zeth and his 4 siblings had a bit of a competitive childhood, despite each of them having highly noticeable talents even as younglings. The eldest was to be a politician, second eldest a scholar, third a priest and youngest a farmer to inherit the vast reaches of land they owned. Zeth, the second eldest, was given free reigns picking what best interested him, and consequently started researching and learning about magic as soon as he could stand and walk.

Ice magic came to him quite naturally, and his teachers and peers alike commended him. It was beauty and freedom to have your future laid out for you at such a young age. But then the fire nation attacked The war, however, set all those plans ablaze in a quite literal sense. Sweden attempted to remain neutral for the first years of the war, but soon it became apparent that unless a swift end was put to it then the continent was forfeit. Up until he was 17 Zeth could keep his studies up, but the war was outside his door. His family attempted to flee, to emigrate to the states in search for a new life. After all, they were all successful in Sweden, they would not be helpless in a new country.

Unfortunately, this decision was too little too late. The overcrowded boat trip eventually tore the family apart and got them separated. Last Zeth heard of any of them his father had been murdered and his mother died of unknown causes, his brothers and sisters are a mystery still. Still a young optimist by the time he arrived, Zeth was soon broken down by the harsh world that awaited the refugees in America. Discrimination soon made humane treatment alien to him, and there was no sympathy for the poor or those unable to fend for themselves. He did his best to continue his pursuit of knowledge, but it was left wayside in favor of physical training. Most magical jobs in the cities he found were taken, and only day-to-day manual labor kept him afloat. Learning English took the better half of a decade with nobody willing to teach him, but with that behind him Zeth has been doing much better in the slums of Chicago.

Occupation
Day-to-day worker. Tends to find work as a cooler-boy at bars.

Skills/Notable Abilities
Educated - As he was raised scholarly, he is familiar with most academic subjects. Mathematics, language, physics, magic, you name it and he's read it at one point or another. Unfortunately, with a lack of resources and books he's been unable to study any of these subjects much further.
Paranoid - Whilst making it harder to sleep at night, Zeth has still found that his slight paranoia has done him more good than bad. He's constantly vigilant, compulsively obsessive about looking over his shoulders and keeping close track of any food or drink he's fed, and has a very hard time trusting anyone or anything.
Honesty - Both insight and blunt honestly comes from Zeth's mind, and he has a tendency of coming across quite well without being charismatic simply by being straight to the point and honest. Similarly, he's come to find that he has a knack for telling when people are lying to him.
Vigilante - Letting officers of the law do their thing has never really been popular in the slums, both because of their inefficiency and their often very corrupt requests. Zeth has been fighting off both criminals and policemen for his own morals since he moved here, and though he's never been officially wanted he might be recognized by some of those who remain. On the other hand, it's kept his magical skill and physical coordination up and running.
If you're gonna be bold you gotta be tough - And well, play dumb games to win dumb prizes. Zeth has plenty of scars from his rebellious scrapping, but he's learned more than well how to take a hit and how to ignore pain. He's pretty tough.

Notable Belongings/Equipment
.32 Revolver - To the victor go the spoils. Zeth once killed a man who had a tendency of robbing women and children at gunpoint, often while under heavy substance abuse. Now he uses his revolver for better things.
Compass Necklace - Really just a compass on a string. Keepsake from his ice magic tutor.
Clothing - Looks matter. Zeth has a brown cloak whilst outdoor, but due to his innate resistance to cold his actual clothing is not very warm. A plain black vest with a dusty white button-up shirt under it. Dress pants that have gotten pretty worn near the ends of the legs. Black leather shoes in surprisingly good condition.
Heavy Dagger - Family heirloom. Sharpened with a heavy hilt, useful for non-lethal attacks. Zeth has become quite proficient in wielding it.

Social Class/ Community Standing
Discriminated Minority, homeless

Family/Pets
Family dead. Siblings may be alive, but he's not seen them in 10 years. Used to have a pet rat, but it ran away.

Name:: Akito Shouen 硝煙 秋人; Age:: Twenty Nine; Gender:: F; Element:: Fire; Affinity:: Journeyman;
[div class=tabs][div class=tab]skills[/div][div class=tab]indepth[/div][div class=tab]extra[/div][/div][div class="tabsContent tabsContentskills"]
Occupation:
Custom weapon blacksmith

Skills/Notable Abilities:
- Precision fire, she has learned to be very accurate with fire for the sake of her job as a weapon smith.
- Weapon knowledge, being the daughter of a notable blacksmith, and being a blacksmith herself, Akito is very well acquianted with everything that can hurt another human being
- Iron will, Akito is not the type to haggle and bargain, strict and straight is how she mainly acts.

Notable Belongings/Equipment:
- It's quite suprising that a weapon expert only owns two weapons themselves, but such is the case for Akito. She owns an fairly hard to find umbrella gun she saw in a pawnshop and restored (which hangs from the cieling in her apartment as she never actually takes it anywhere, it's more of a keepsake, although it is a functioning weapon), and a simple knife that is often in one of her pockets.
- Although she isn't one to play games like Shogi, a family heirloom is a heirloom, and she keeps the gift of a Shogi board from her grandmother tucked away on a shelf in the flat that she lives in.
- She always has disenfectant, lotion, and bandages on hand, a practice she started when she was young (prompted by her mother), in order to keep her hands and skin soft and unblistered, since hot metal is dangerous to work with.

Social Class/Community Standing:
For a girl from the Chicago Chinatown, she has quite some cash from her family. They are a pretty well known source of weapons, and as such, Akito has seen quite a few of important faces in her life.

[div class=macimg]

[/div][/div][div class="tabsContent tabsContentindepth" style="display: none;"]
Personality:
Akito is a rather levelheaded person, slightly stoic and maybe offputting at first due to her no nonsense nature. When it comes to rules and law she is as straight as an arrow, unless it comes to her families' business and their oft slightly illegal practices. In situation such as those Akito is willing to turn a blind eye to, and since childhood it was instilled to her that nothing is more important than the family business.
She isn't someone who enjoys being monitored the way Fire users in America are, but she understands the reasond behind said monitoring and is smart enough to know why it is a thing. Her outlook on life is quite simple, as long as her and her family are fine, she will be too. But she does have a weakness towards friendly and charismatic people, and she can enjoy attention from people a lot, seeing as she didn't really have much of it growing up.

History:
Akito was born in Chicago and is quite native to the city, her grandparents immigrated from Japan to first Hawaii and then here in the 1870s, and the family line continued since. Most of her childhood she remembers being taught by tutors and being often overseen by her father in the cities' Chinatown, and this is mostly how she learned her Fire magic. She was the one set to inherit the family fortune, seeing as despite the fact that she was a woman, Akito was born a Fire Mage, unlike her older Brother who took after his Grandmother and has a Water Affinity. Many years overseen by masters paid by her rather well off blacksmithing family, Akito suppodedly took well after her father in this regard and is rather successful as a known weapon designer.
Her childhood wasn't the most exciting one, and due to the sheltered nature of the family business she had very little friends, but Akito was mostly fine with this. Of course she got friendly with a couple of clients but it was always strictly professional.
She had studied Fire Magic in the DePaul University (under the faculty of Fire), following in her father's footsteps and learned how to be really precise and controlled with her fire (just as she is with her emotion and wits) for the ease and mastery over blacksmithing it would allow, and although Akito is very controlled and careful, she isn't exactly a powerhouse, and lacks the emotions that are often associated with powerful Fire Mages.

Name: "Spring-Heeled" Jack Lynn

Gender: Male

Age: Early 20s

Appearance:
View media item 31793
Element: Air

Affinity: Journeyman

Personality: I think I can make his personality better known through some quotes of his:
"I always make the delivery." (True)
"Money's only as good as what it can buy." (Jack knows how money works)
"You've got a problem when the booze's not much safer than the water." (Jack can see the problems that come with failing public utilities)
"You're as likely to catch the Devil, now let's see you chase my tail!" (Jack's an adrenaline junkie)
"Gambling's the same poison as dope, but just as fun. At least the former doesn't slow me down." (Jack has a gambling habit)
"The right reputation's more valuable than a gold bar and it weighs less." (Jack's reputation is worth more than any bribe.)
"I'll toss a coin in the charity box as soon as God does. Sooner if I break that promise." (Jack is not one to worry about divine retribution.)
"Whether they use 'color' or 'colour' isn't what matters, it's how their money spends." (If you can pay, Jack's willing to listen.)
"Who taught me? A charitable old man. Repeatedly."

History: "Spring-Heeled" Jack started off doing courier work a few years ago and in that time has built up a reputation for always delivering the package. The sender and recipient might end up worse due to their actions, but the delivery was always made. Jack's reputation was so good that the underground made sure the police knew it was better to look the other way for his less than legal runs. He's often seen in the more exotic gambling spots, but usually pulls out before he goes into debt to the house. Right now he's a freelancer, making deliveries for whoever can pay.

Occupation: Courier

Skills/Notable Abilities:
  • Freerunner
  • Skilled brawler
  • Quick-witted and more smarter than he lets on
  • Knows Chicago like the back of his hand
  • Can read and write
  • Can mimic the accent and colloquialisms of others.
Notable Belongings/Equipment:
Sailcloak: A lining sowed into his clothing that when unfurled and combined with his magic lets him jump about 20 ft. in optimal conditions.
Goggles: Protective goggles to ensure he can keep his eyes open while moving through the air.
Club: a collapsible metal baton that Jack uses in tight spots.

Social Class/ Community Standing: The underground finds his services useful and he doesn't hurt for money, but you won't find him in higher circles unless he's involved in a delivery.

Joseph Frank Callahan || Joe
Male || 30
Water || TBC
Bartender & Owner of The Green Mill

Personality
Attentive, talkative and funny, Joseph almost seems like he was born to run a bar. He can and will talk with anyone about any topic, is a great listener and offers the best advice, even if he doesn't really understand the problem. Joe has always been a friendly person, the type of man who would do anything to help a friend or stranger. He's never self conscious in any situation, can speak with people from any walk of life and always has a smile on his face. When at work, Joe always seems to be alert. He's usually refilled a drink before you've even thought of asking for another, and he knows exactly when trouble in brewing. From behind the bar, he can see everything that happens in his own little slice of Chicago. For someone who only received a public education and from tutoring from his family, Joe is clever. He's always well spoken and sharp when it comes to money.

History
Joe was born the middle child in a third generation of Irish immigrants. His grandparents were one of a number of Irish farmers who fled to America after the great famine in the 1840's left many laborers without work. Being Earth and Water elementals, his grandparents found work on farm in Rural Illinois and were able to make a decent living tending the land. Their eldest son-Joseph's father- was a water elemental like his mother, and a self taught engineer who left home at 16 to find a better life in the city. Joe doesn't know a huge amount about his mother's heritage, other than that her parents traveled to America from Ireland around the same time as his father's parents.

Along with his siblings, he had a traditional Irish upbringing. Religion, discipline and a healthy tolerance for alcohol! Both of his parents were the no nonsense sort and so the three siblings went to school and had largely uneventful lives during their younger years. When Joe was 13, an explosion on an oil ship down at the dock front killed his father along with 9 other men. Joe an his siblings were heartbroken, but his mother's strength combined with a compensation package saw the family through and allowed Catherine Callahan to buy a sewing machine and set up as a seamstress to keep her family alive. Joe did all he could to help, but his mother was was insistent he focused on his schooling and so he knuckled down in school and vowed to make the best life he could for himself.

War broke out when Joe was 15. For the first few years, nothing seemed to touch Joe an his family. He continued to go to school until he was 16, at which age he starting working at the docks while being tutored in magic by his mother and older brother in the evening. Joe was too young when for the first registration for service. His brother was not. Michael Callaghan was sent over in one of the first waves of troops. For a while, the family continued to receive letters and pay packages from Michael, but eventually they stopped. Missing in action was the official title, but all Joe's family know is that they never saw or heard from Michael after the summer of 1918. Soon after the end of the war, his sister Cara married into a wealthier family and moved to West City. With two of her children gone, Catherine Callahan wanted to so something nice for her son and so she gifted him the pay packages she'd saved up for his brother's return.

As far as Joe sees it, the Green Mill is Michael's legacy. He first saw the run down shop on one of the main streets leading from the docklands to Downtown when he decided to take a shortcut home from the docks where he was working at the time. Joe had always had a talent for making drinks and with the money from his brother, he had enough to rent the place for a couple of months. Since the doors opened, his bar has always been immensely popular. But when the drinks are mixed with a touch of water magic, what can you expect?

Skills and Abilities
Making and distilling drinks- With a new concoction every day, Joe's drinks are especially popular with people from all walks of life. He keeps his prices low, and makes a living off bulk sales. He's also found a way to distill liquor easily and safely using his powers and tends to keep a stock a strong, but well priced spirits around for anyone who wants them. As well as this, he brews his own Irish ales in the cellar below the bar. His magic makes it easier for him to stir and turn the beer, and so the drinks always come out well.
Talking to people- Joseph can talk to anyone and everyone about any topic. He's brilliant a coming up with advice and consequently a lot of people with problems come and visit him. He's also a very good story teller. Although his exaggeration rates are similar to his profit margins.
Memory- Joe claims to remember everyone who's ever stepped inside his bar. He remembers names and faces easily, and can also remember most of the stories he's ever been told. As for his regular customers, he's got their drinks orders practically burned into his mind, and sometimes knows what they want to drink before they know it themselves.

Notable Belongings
A bottle of Dublin Whiskey- a gift from his grandparents to his father and then to Joe. It sits proudly on the top shelf behind the bar.
Silver knife- kept hidden under the bar in case of any trouble
Sleeve garters & apron- If Joe is working, he's also well presented. For him the two go hand in hand. Consequently he'd never seen without a long sleeve shirt and braces with a apron to stop them getting messy and sleeve garters to keep his sleeves from falling down and getting wet in drinks of while wiping down the bar.

Social Class/Community Standing
Working Class
As a bartender who supplies both cheap drinks in large quantities, and strong expensive drinks of his own creation, Joe is quite respected in the community.

Family/ Pets
Joe's father died when he was a teenager after an accent at the docks. His mother skill lives Downtown where she makes a living a a seamstress. Joe is close to his mother and always sends her any extra money he makes when the takings are good. He also has a sister, Cara, who married into a weather family and consequently has not been seen much since the wedding. His brother never came back from the war, and Joe barely ever speaks about him. His only other notable companion is a big black dog, who generally sleeps in the corner of the bar. He was a stray who Joe began feeding scraps to on his way home at the end of the night. Eventually the dog began to follow him around, and now Joe lets him sleep in the corner of the bar. The dog is quite old, and nameless and does almost nothing except for sleep. Unless there is any trouble in the bar, then prepare for a snarling mass of teeth.

Victoria Scarlett | 24 | Female | Ice [ Journeyman ]
| Lynda Carter - Baby It's Just You|Singer & Criminal | West City
[

She turns you on,
then she turns on you

History

Victoria Scarlett, the eldest daughter of an irresponsible fiery wench with a stone-cold man living in Gold Wood and the elder sister of two innocent younger siblings from the same mother each with different men. They used to live in an old shack Downtown where their mother does her living while her kids are out begging for handouts. The three were orphaned when Victoria was barely fourteen when a jealous fire-mage burned the shack after she discovered that her husband was one of their mother's regular client. She wasn't the best mother in the world but they were beyond horrified when they saw thick black smoke coming from the direction of the shack and the aftermath scene. Without a place to call home, she decided to seek help to her father living a luxurious life encased in a 40 meter high wall. Their mother may have failed to guide them properly but she did not fail to brag about how she scored big with a an ice-mage in Gold Wood and dropping his name in her drunken haze.

Somehow, she managed to infiltrate the home of the elite thanks to a special permit sold illegally Downtown and an extravagant disguise. The lass found it difficult to look for her father inside the walls but it was even harder to beg for his help. He agreed to let her and her siblings stay in an old warehouse he owns in Docklands but he made her promise that all her ties with him would be cut once he did. Without any other options to choose from, her and her siblings moved into Docklands and settled in a cluttered, dirty and old warehouse.

It was amazing how they managed to survive just by begging for handouts, charities, and doing small work such as accepting laundry, drying firewood, and etc. Just when she thought that everything's going to be alright, her sister got a disease that needs huge sum of money to be managed properly. Victoria and her younger brother had to retort to illegal doings to afford check-ups and buy her maintenance medicines. They stole, scammed, swindled, and did other petty crimes. Unfortunately, her brother got caught during a pit fight and got arrested by authorities due to illegal gambling and use of fire power. He was restrained behind bars and seventeen-years old Victoria had to use her feminine wiles to set him free. She got acquainted with different people with different expertise afterwards and joined an organization that makes use of her skills, performs well-oriented heists and takes in big scores. She made a good amount of money while working with the organization and she bought a house West City and currently works as a singer in a bar with a few sidelines.

Gossips and rumors about a mysterious, alluring, and young lady circled the city of Chicago, a lady that was known to seduce her victim before freezing them and stealing their most priced possessions. Nobody knows if it's merely a myth or real, except for Victoria.

Personality

Victoria is a clever and devious woman with a strong will driven by her idealistic ambitions. Enigmatic yet so alluring at the same time. She is sharp and knows exactly how to make people dance around her dainty fingers. This female is a devious manipulator, making other people do what she wants using her feminine wiles. She is rather good at getting information and stalling people which is very useful for her chosen career. Victoria may tend to be self-centered and vain most of the time but her personality turns a hundred-eighty degrees when around her younger siblings. She becomes sweet and caring.

Skills & Abilities

Seductress - knows how to get her way and persuade other people
Ice Queen - thanks to her father, she can manipulate ice

Notable Belongings

Poison Ring & Vial - a ring that holds an anesthetizing poison to make a person lose consciousness if it enters their system. She always wear it in her right ring finger. The vial is always in her purse or pocket for refilling purpose or in case of emergency.

Cesare Spencer [father] - A man living in Gold Wood. He doesn't want anything to do with his daughter from a woman Downtown so Victoria never heard anything from him again after he let them stay in his warehouse at Dockland.

Luke & Lucia Scarlett [younger brother & Sister]- They are her beloved siblings and she would protect them at all cost. Luke is 16 while Lucia is 15.

Social Class & Class Standing

    Name: Anna Russo

    Gender: Female

    Age: 23 years old

Appearance: Young, studious, and a bit of a spinster in the making. She typically walks with her head down and shoulders slumped, the kind of inoffensive young woman everyone ignores. Anna is near-sighted enough to need glasses and, particularly in the 1920s, rarely receives a second look at as a result. Her voice is a soft alto.

    Element: Water

    Affinity: Journeyman

Techniques: Moving crates and people underwater, moving ships without oars or motors, creating fog to conceal criminal activities and muffle conversation, cleaning/removing blood, and causing a thin stream of water to jet intensely enough to cut through things (typically locks or evidence). She's also practiced a technique for rendering someone unconscious by stopping blood flow to the brain but has never actually done it.

Affinity:

Personality:

"Tell me you love me."
"You know I love you."
"No, tell me like you'd die for me, like nothing else matters, like your world stop turning without me... like you mean it you little sh*t."

At one point in her life, Audrey has forgotten who she was. Falling so deep in the sorrow within her. Ever since she was young Audrey gave off an aura of harmlessness she would cause those around her to feel empowered. Through the years she's earned many titles that show just how foolish she is from being overly naive to easily bossed around. Even though she has many good qualities that attract the opposite sex she doesn't' know how to use them to her advantage. For a person who easily gets hurt emotionally and physically, she tends to deal with her problems well. Audrey has always held her emotions back from those around her. Audrey won't ever show her emotions, not the bad ones at least, she keeps all the pain and hardship closed. At times this can take its toll on her but can be of strength to others when situations go for the worst.

History:
"No, you didn't think. I kept waiting, praying. I was trapped in there screaming at you just 'help me, please'! You're supposed to help people Danny why didn't you help me."
"What about me? What about me when you die?! No, I get it! I get it! You'll be okay, you'll be fine but what about me? So don't do it for yourself do it for me please Danny."
Audrey was born in Goldwood her parents were known for their fortune and ongoing fame. Sara and Charles Maxwell had 6 children and Audrey was in between those siblings a 'middle child' if you will. People would envy her lifestyle, her clothing, and her parents and she loved it...for a time. Audrey never had the chance to sit with her mother and when the time came her mother would lecture her about her appearance. But Audrey never hated her mothers lecturing it was the complete opposite it would bring her joy to get to see her mother that one day on a Sunday morning. So it broke her heart when her parents died it hurt so bad and the pain was endless that she couldn't possibly know how to make it stop.

After her parent's death, Audrey felt alone and lonely all her siblings had split up with their lawyers fighting and hating scheming and plotting for their father fortune. Her loneliness only grew that's why when she met Danny it felt like everything fit. They got married at only 19, Audrey took only 200,000 from a billion dollar will and moved to West city. It wasn't as lovely as the dream Audrey had in mind of a perfect life. She and Danny fought constantly it would always begin and end with Danny beating her. Audrey has gotten better in just staying quite while he hit her although at times she would get nose bleeds after. By the time she turned 20 Audrey had her first miscarriage when Danny had beat her then not knowing of the children existence finding out after Audrey nearly bleed to death.

Not shortly after half a year or so Danny was diagnosed with a sickness although the treatment cost money Audrey was willing to pay but Danny resisted wanting to go. Audrey suffered a great deal after hours of begging him to do the procedure for her he died. Audrey didn't know what to do at that time, she was confused and scared and she felt so lonely. She didn't care what happened to her and wished herself dead that was until the doctor's results came in of the possibility of her having a child. Audrey was pregnant with a baby boy and although she wished nothing more than to fall into a deep slumber with the last bit of money, she had left she opened a bakery store. Although the land cost much more than it did in downtown Audrey had no choice but to open her shop there gang members would constantly break in stealing expensive jewelry which costs more and takes a year and a half to make enough money to make another batch.
