Chicago Adventure {Closed}

Matreania

Expect the unexpected, it expects you
Freya looked out of the window of the plane. Planes made her nervous but there was no way she was going to be able to get across three states to meet up with Allen.

Allen was a high school friend and one of the only people she knew in her new home. Chicago wasn't her first choice but she was glad Allen would be there. It was refreshing to know that she didn't have to go into a new city without at least having someone to talk to.

She sighed as she looked out the window, they were just about to land, Allen would be waiting for her at the airport. Their friend Michael had already gotten her things moved her and she was glad for that.

Michael was Freya's best friend and the only person she was sure knew just as much about her as she knew about herself. Allen and he had gotten Freya on the plane, if the two of them hadn't ganged up on her, she would have taking the train or driven there herself, just as Michael had.

But she was on a plane and anxiously waiting to get on the ground. She looked at her watch again, 45 minutes and they should be landing. Then Allen would take her to her apartment to change and they were supposed to meet some of his friends. She was glad it was Saturday, at least she didn't have to worry about work, just getting to the apartment and getting to bed afterwards.

Colt was packing up his things. The more things he put in boxes the harder it became. He looked around the house sighing, his fiancé...well ex fiancé...was kicking him out. He hadn't even seen this coming so the blow to his heart was astronomical. He taped up his box full of pictured and carried it over to the stack. Hopefully he'd have the strength to burn them once he had his one place.

Juliet his ex had left him alone to do his own packing, she kept the house and the car. He could never hurt her he wanted her to have the best, even if she ripped his hear out and stomped on if. Now he was stuck with a one bedroom apartment downtown. It was nice, but moving from a huge house to an apartment in the city was never a good thing.

Being from Texas Colt had never wanted to move to the city. He'd do anything for Juliet though so he up rooted his whole life and moved here. Which wasn't all that bad, he got paid better here and he had lots of great friends.

Speaking of which, he better finish up soon because he had a dinner to get to. His good friend Allen had invited him to meet his old friend from high school. He got the whole crew together so Colt couldn't refuse.

Freya sighed as she waited impatiently for her bag, just another reason she wasn't big on planes. It took a few minutes, she tip toed to check but finally she saw her bag. She grabbed it from the sort before she lost track of it, sighing as she held it in her hand, about to take her phone out.

But before she could do anything, large hands covered her eyes and a deep voice said, "Hello, beautiful, new in own." she grinned, she's recognize that bratty tone of voice anywhere. She elbowed his gut, before turning a round to find Allen bent slightly over after letting air out of his lungs. He was between surprise and a chuckle when shook her head at him and he raised his hand to her to stop, "Ok, ok. I surrender." he smiled standing back up to his full height.

She looked up at him, he was still a towering skyscraper to her common building, she smiled not thinking of using that analogy to him out loud. "You know, you are late right?" she asked him.

"It's a Chicago thing, everyone is moving but the planes take some time to get their grounding." Allen protested, he smiled down at her, "You really do look pretty, Nic."

"Yeah, yeah. You talk to Michael?" she asked, wondering if he knew about Mike.

"Heard all about it, supposed to Skype him when we get to your apartment. Should be fun. New city for you, I get to see you more, Michael had to deal with the break up think. You still talking to Mike?"

"He has decided to think about it." Freya announced with a grin, "You know if Michael keeps up his control freak habits, Mike will never consider getting back with him."

Allen grinned, "Yeah, I know. Talked to him already, nothing else I can do. But hey, you aren't in Texas anymore, you are here, in Chicago." he announced, taking her bag from her and motioning her to follow. They walked side by side, he smiled at her, "We are going for dogs, coke and then drinks. I have a friend that's a bartender, best drinks you will ever have. We meet up with her at the bar and just hang there for a while. Dance a bit and then I will have you home and in bed, for detox tomorrow." Allen assured her.

Colt finished the rest of his boxes and carried them out, a couple at a time, to his rented mustang. He sold his bike for the down payment on the apartment, hopefully he's get another one soon though. He got in the car and drove to his new apartment.

Brooke was waiting for him when he got there. She grinned as he pulled up it was wired to see him driving an actual car. "Hey, my cousin said you better not mess the place up." She dangled the keys on her fingers as she walked over to his mustang.

"Yeah, yeah. Tell Josh to shove it." He said stepping out of the car and grabbing the keys. "It's not like he got me a deal or something." Colt laughed and walked up the stairs in the front to his apartment.

Being so last minute he hadn't seen the apartment yet. He stuck the key in and opened the door. His eyes went wide. Maybe her cousin had given him a deal. Fully furnished it looked expensive.

"Maybe I should thank your cousin." Colt said looking around. Brooke laughed and nodded.

"Don't mess anything up cowboy." She laughed slapped his back and then turned to leave.

Allen stopped in the parking garage, parking the car and turned to Freya, "So, you already saw some of Chicago, any ideas?" he smiled at her. She looked at him from his passenger seat, beside him. His 2004 Ford Ka was small and comfortable, making Freya relax a bit as she looked at the city while they drove. It was hard to think that she wasn't in Texas anymore, she hadn't been anywhere else, not even for a day or two. But here she was in a whole new city and no clue of anything, she looked lost at Allen. Allen grinned at her, "I know that look, but don't worry, everything is going to be awesome. We can get something to eat in the morning, or we can just crash tonight, watching a movie after we go out and go do something in the morning. I'm volunteering to stay the night with you, if you are scared."

Freya smiled, slightly pushing his shoulder, "I'm not scared, smoke for brains."

"Hey, I save lives." Allen playfully protested.

"So do I, only I don't try to keep my self doing it." Freya teased, Allen just tuck his tongue out at her.

"Just get out, I think Michael put your clothes up, so come on, before we have to meet everyone." Allen said, as he opened his door to get out. Freya grinned at him, before she got out of the car and watched Allen grab her bag from the back. "Follow me, I checked it out already and honestly, it's completely your style." Allen assured her, "Simple and red." he chuckled. Freya smiled following him.

Colt laughed as she left. He shut the door behind her and then found his way to the bedroom. His mouth fell open. What the heck did he need a king sized bed for? Walking all the way in he moved past the huge walk in closet and into the giant bathroom.

"Sweet!" He pulled his back pack off with his extra clothes and everything and set it on the counter as he turned on the water fall shower. He stripped and stepped in. He took a quick shower and then got dressed. He wore his usual dark clothes and a wind breaker.

He combed through his hair with his fingers in the mirror and smiled when he got it just right. He walked out of the bathroom and a cloud of Calone.

His friends would be meeting soon and he was glad to have the distraction. He shoved plenty of money in his pockets to buy drinks and not just for himself.

Freya opened the door and smiled, simple and red, Allen was right, to the left was the bedroom, the door was welcomes be the hallway that lead to the large living room and open kitchen also on the left. It had the three rooms she needed and nothing else. Allen walked in after her, as she walked to the living room he went to her room to put the bag down. "Ok, Nic, you got to get ready." he told her, like a parent telling a child.

Freya grinned at the living room, and kitchen before rolling her eyes at Allen, "Honestly, I think I rather just stay in." she admitted, meeting new people was not her forte and to make it worse, she didn't know what kind of place he was taking her.

"Oh, no you don't. Everyone is expecting my high school friend to tell them embarrassing stories about me in high school, and you are going to be there to say hi." Allen stated, grabbing her arm and dragging her to her room.

"Yeah." she protested, before they got to her room, he stopped. Looking at her as they stood in her room, "Get dress, something casual, we aren't going anywhere fancy. You are going to come out with us and you are going to have some fun." Allen stated before leaving the room, he shouted through the door, "You have ten minutes, or I'm going in their to dress you myself."

Freya sighed, going to her closet she picked out a red shirt and jeans that she liked, before she tied her hair up a messy ponytail and sighed, as she went to the bathroom and made sure she didn't look too bad. Not that it mattered, she didn't have the confidence to actually wear anything but casual. She wasn't sure she even liked the shirt she was wearing. But she ignored the thought, she didn't need Allen coming in her and dressing her, he probably would do it. Michael had done it to her before, but Allen never had, she liked it better that way.

When she was done, she stepped out, to find Allen standing across from her bedroom door waiting, he smiled at her, "Now see, you look like someone that is going out with friends and meeting your future ex husband." Allen grinned, as he chuckled slightly. He opened the front door, "Come on, Nic, we have friends to make." She didn't know which she disliked most, that her confidence was so low she didn't think that Allen made those comments from actually look at her or that he was so confident that he just blurted out silly comments like that and she questioned if they were true. But she walked out teh door and Allen followed her, he locked her door for her, another thing she was nearly questioning was giving him a key, but she just sighed as they walked to the elevator to go to the garage to go meet his friends.

Colt was not the first to arrive at the dog place. Max and Brooke were already there, they bickered just like normal as he walked over and sat down.

"Please tell this chinese wanna be that hot dogs are better than egg rolls." Brooke nudged him. Colt just laughed.

"I think I'm a little biased." Brooke sighed and turned back to her argument buddy.

"There is no comparison." Colt rolled his eyes, Brooke was always fighting with some one. She was always so opinionated, she was funny most of the time but sometimes annoying. Brook turned in her chair to look at him.

"You look good, you ready to pick up chicks already?" Brooke asked with a grin. Colt shrugged and leaned back in his chair.

"Why not? I mean Juliet pretty much ripped my heart out." He said it so nonchalantly as Mike entered the hot dog place.

Allen walked in with Freya, spotting them almost on instinct, Brooke, Max and Colt, he grinned, pointing them out to Freya, "Those are my friends, up for it?" Allen asked.

Freya took a deep breath, looking where he pointed, "I guess." she shrugged, before Allen smiled, leading the way. Freya followed hesitantly. She wasn't sure why Allen was so kin on her meeting his friends, but he was her friend and she wasn't really sure how she was going to handle them.

"Hey, guys."Allen smiled, as they reached the table, he sat beside Colt, motioning Freya to seat by Max, so she did, with a shy smile. "This is Freya, my friend from Texas. Freya this is Max, Brooke and Colt." he announced introducing them. He turned to Brooke, "Freya is the new Cardiology Nurse at the hospital." he told her then smiled to Freya, "Brooke works at the hospital where you are starting Monday."

Freya just shyly smiled at them and listened to them, without saying a word, she was not used to having people she didn't know around and she wasn't going to just start talking. She was sure she'd say something wrong or misunderstand something, since she didn't know anything about them.

Brooke smiled happily and bounced in her chair. She giggled. "I am so happy to meet you, you're gunna love the hospital. All the doctors are so nice." Colt rolled his eyes, sometimes Brook could be such a girl.

"It's nice to meet you, we always need more girls in our group." Max said with a sly grin. Colt just waved he wasn't really in the mood for all re giggling. Yeah the new girl was hot but he wanted easy.

Kimi was the next to pop in the restaurant she grabbed a chair from another table and pushed it right inbetween Brooke and Colt. Being Colts bestfriend she reserved the right to do so. She sat not even noticing the new girl.

"I have to be at work in 30 minutes and I am going to stuff my face, btw I'm paying for you cowboy." Kimi said elbowing Colt in the ribs. After a minute of awkward silence Kimi looked up and noticed the new girl. "Oh, uh hi Allens new girlfriend?"

Freya blushed immediately, but Allen just laugh, "That's Kimi for ya." he laughed watching Freya's face turn bright red as she looked down. Allen leaned forward, "Kimi, this is Freya, my friend from Texas and probably going to be Brooke's new best friend from her excitement." he chuckled. Allen elbowed Freya, "Would you say something already, you look like your shirt. Keep it up and I'll take a page from Michael's book and start really messing with you."

Freya looked at him with cautious, "I only need one Michael." she snapped, blushing again after recalling she wasn't alone with him, she took a deep breath.

Allen sighed, "Anyway." he said, rolling his eyes, "Did you guys already order or are we waiting for the waiter?"

Max grinned, "Well, I just got here a few minutes before Colt and Brooke went all crazy over hot dogs, so I'm going with waiting." he chuckled.

"I already ordered for you guys all but the new girl, I didn't know what she wanted." She kicked Max under the table.

Kimi laughed, her an Colt matched echo thee with dark hair an clothing. They both had tattoos too. Colt leaned on the table watching Brook and Max fighting again.

"The waiter here is so hot, just wait." Kimi said to Freya leaning over Colt. Colt flicked her ear and she just laughed. "Ow!"

Freya couldn't help but smile, Allen grinned at her, "Now, we are getting somewhere." Allen smirked, "So Brooke, when are you and Max just going to sleep with each other and get it over with. Honestly, you two fight about everything." he chuckled.

Freya watched them all, she wasn't really sure why Allen would care what Max and Brooke did, but she was sure that he was joking. "I don't think that has anything to do with you, Al." she finally stated, looking at Allen, and trying not to be so nervous.

"And she speaks." Allen chuckled, he turned to the group, "Freya is probably the shyest girl in Texas, but she can be the most opinionated brat you will ever meet."

Colt smiled. "Brooke might get a run for her money then." Brooke tried to reach over Kimi but she smacked her hand away.

"Nobody lays a hand on cowboy he's been through enough." Kimi said before the waiter came and she grinned.

The "hotty" set all the food down and smiled at Freya. "Can I get you something?"

Kimi ogled over him as he walked past her. "That ass though." She whispered. Brook giggled and Colt rolled his eyes.

Freya blushed slightly turning to Allen, she was not really up for any attention, she was already starting to try and get used to his friends. Allen smiled, turning to the waiter, "She'll have a water and just a plain chili dog with fries and some Tabasco sauce if you have it." he answered. He smiled at Freya, "That cool?"

"Yeah." Freya said, avoiding the waiter's gaze, until he left, she just wanted to get used to as few people at a time.

"How are you going to deal with work like this?" Allen questioned her. "I mean, I know you are like super nurse, but how the hell do you become a super nurse, when you can't even talk to people?"

"Work is different then this." Freya stated, "I don't have to worry about saying the wrong thing, because it's work, I know it."

Allen chuckled, "If I didn't kow better I would think you were a people pleaser."

"You can't say anything to make us not like you." Brooke said with a laugh.

"Yeah we have Max for that." Colt put in, he was starting to feel a little better. Max grabbed his beer and tipped it back.

"Just because you don't like what I say doesn't mean it's not true." He pointed the bottle at him. Colt laughed as Kimi punched his arm.

"True!" Kimi laughed.

Freya smirked as Allen lightly nudged her, "See, can you at least try and relax now." Allen smiled.

"I am relaxed." she protested, before taking a deep breath, she looked at Colt, Kimi said he's been through enough, she wasn't sure if asking was a good idea, at least not while she was still really new. Instead she turned to Max, "So arguing is your idea?" she asked innocently, leaving Allen chuckling.

Max laughed and nodded. "I just say what I mean, people like Colt sometimes don't like that." He took another swig of beer.

Colt flicked him off as he ate his chili dog. Kimi laughed taking a gulp of her beer.

"Well when you get drunk later and need someone to talk you out of sleeping with some ugly girl, I will not be there for you." Colt laughed

Freya covered her mouth as she giggled, they all seemed so comfortable together and Allen was pretty much babysitting her. Allen chuckled "Don't worry Max, if I'm not busy, I just might help you out. Maybe." Allen chuckled, before taking a bite of his hot dog.

Freya looked around quickly before she said, "Technically there is no actually evidence of anyone being ugly. The brain has it's own wiring. It can calculate angles of your eyes, how far apart they are ad pretty much every detail of the face other then how it comes together which is how it defines beauty. So, to be correct, it wouldn't be saving him from someone ugly just someone that his brain visually does not find appealing." Freya corrected, to her own surprise.

Allen coughed as he started to choke from his surprise, drinking his soda, "Whow, Nic. I thought you were the quiet one, today." he chuckled. Freya bite her lip and blushed again, she didn't know why she said that and he sure she should have said it.

"Well my brain finds some women horrifyingly unattractive." Max said with a chuckle. Colt was just laughing he had never heard it explained that way before.

Brooke was nodding thoughtfully. She understood what Freya was saying. Kimi was just grinning.

"She keeps it interesting." Kimi said.

Allen chuckled, "Oh you have no idea. High school was unbelievable. Spent half junior year with her arguing with the coach about proper athletically activities. Apparently, walking the track is not appropriate for teenagers with the stamina to do so much more."

Freya sighed, "He was being lazy, the teen body was the ability and stamina to spend hours on athletics. Not only that, but there is a lot of building from actual sports, not to mention it is healthier in the long run." she protested, "You just didn't want to stop looking at that Sarah girl that you insisted on walking behind."

Allen laughed, "I was 17, need I explain further."

"Please don't." Kimi said fake gagging. Colt patted her shoulder looking at her with puppy dog green eyes.

"It's okay, we know you know nothing about that." Kimi elbowed him hard in the abs and he laughed as the air rushed out of him.

Allen laughed, "That reminds me, Colt, you are going car shopping right?Mind taking Miss Health Nut with you. She needs to get herself a way back and forth without spending all her money on a rental."

"Why can't you take me?" Freya asked suddenly and nervous about being left alone with any one of them, with Allen there.

"Because I work odd shifts. Plus, you are not going alone, Michael already told me the last time you went alone. Last thing I need is to be called because you burned the place down or you got arrested."

"I am not getting arrested." Freya assured him.

"I know, because Colt will get arrested instead." Allen smiled, as he motioned to Colt, as the waiter started towards them with Freya's food and drink.

"Hey you promised you wouldn't tell people about that!" Colt said with a smirk.

He looked at Freya. "Yeah I'll take you, I'm looking for something with two wheels but I think I know a place that will make us both happy." Kimi laughed.

Allen chuckled, as Freya gave Colt a small smile, before turning to the water to thank him. The waiter smiled back, pulling some Tabasco sauce from his apron, and placing it on the table, before leaving. Freya opened the sauce and poured some on her fries, before she started to eat her fries. "So, Colt, two wheels?" Allen asked, "You really want to be on the back of your own ambulance? Not saying you would be, but I don't remember you ever mentioning riding two wheels before."
