He felt weak as he stared at her. She sat alone at the far side of the building’s lobby and he knew he had never seen her before. She wore a white dress it was a bold contrast to her shadowy skin. Clearly she had been in the company of the Humans, did that mean she liked them? It wasn’t unheard of for Shadows to like their cousins. Well obviously she did like them she was wearing their clothes. That didn’t mean she hated Shadows she was a Shadow herself. He shook his head trying to clear his confused mind. Humans were such a mess compared to Shadows. They were loud and rough, they spoke too much and there was too much color. He swallowed his fear and moved towards her. Suddenly he was very much aware of his own body. The long shadowy limbs he called arms and legs, the way his skin was much darker than others. Was he monsterish compared to those Humans? Sitting next to the unnamed girl he hesitated again. His heart was thumping loudly and he was struggling to find the courage to talk to her. He laughed at himself. Talking? Why was he jumping ahead of himself they weren’t even there yet he’d never talked to a girl before what made him think this one would be the one. It’s because she’s different he thought. He quickly tapped her arm biting his lip he waited for her to turn. When she did he felt his heart plummet to the ground. She was breathtaking. Her eyes were wide and pure and as they made eye contact he smiled inside. They spoke then between their eyes not ushering a word only looking. He could tell she was sad and hurt and was trying her best to be happy for him. He gave her compassion and urged her to tell him what happened. It must have been the wrong thing to do because she looked down and he lost that connection with her. Don’t cry he thought as he looked at her sadly. Then an idea came to him, gently he began to pull at the air around him. It was a form of art to be able to grab the invisible shadow of air and mould it. He struggled silently as he pulled and pushed on the shadow. It began to take shape and form and soon enough he had it finished. It was small and clear just like the Humans glass only flawless and priceless. He felt himself swell with pride as he nudged her again. She turned around and instantly the sadness was gone as she looked at his hands. He looked back into her eyes and she was smiling. “Tal,” she whispered. “Zeke,” he whispered back. He’d never spoken before and he found his voice sounded rough and very low. It was a special thing that was shared only with another whom they felt an intense passion for. Humans called it love. Tal’s voice was beautiful it matched her eyes and filled him with happiness. “You’re so beautiful,” he whispered. “Please don’t ever cry again.” He didn’t care why she was crying before all he cared about was keeping her happy. ((This is old work that I've played around with for a long time. I'm sure I have a longer version somewhere but to be honest I can't find it. So for now until I get around to fixing this version this is all I have. Enjoy. As always comments and such are welcome. Thanks))
