Personality
A friend of everyone, Sa Rang is widely known for her open, and friendly character. Being the student council president, she feels it's her responsibility to take care of her fellow classmates. Next to satisfying her friends, her reputation seems to be one of the things she strives to maintain the most. An amazing reputation means she can keep the student body wrapped around her finger, and remain a strong leader.

Behind her sweet and gentle outside, she's extremely competitive. She puts everything into winning an election, or into winning a Track competition. Losing is practically a death sentence, and she sulks for days on end about her failure. Fortunately enough, she's not the type of person to rub her win in your face. Succeeding is more of a personal gain to raise her confidence. As well as being competitive, she's natural born leader, and she refuses to be a follower.

There's no sugar-coating it, she is a teacher's pet. Something about being a praised by a higher figure excites her. It makes her feel triumphant. As narcissistic as it is, she feels greater than everyone. It only drives her to continue studying and sucking up to the teacher.

personality | Yerin isn't exactly antisocial or socially awkward per say, rather she just is comfortable with being the more reserved type. Due to the fact she is a rather quiet person by default, she doesn't really force herself into conversations or things like that. Instead she sort of just observes and is there, but has little to say. She struggled with speech as a child and often would stutter and stumble over her words, which has caused her to be rather quiet and choose her words carefully and when to speak even more carefully. While she may be viewed as an awkward individuale or someone who doesn't like to socialze, it's quite the opposite. She's very friendly and openly will get along with someone and talk to them if she feels like they are a good person.

Hyun-ah is what you could call the mom friend. She's very protective of her friends and she won't hesitate to address something she sees as a problem; Even if she has to be obnoxiously loud about it. While she tends to hang around a lot of introverted people, she isn't necessarily an introvert herself. She's perfectly fine with talking to strangers in the same way she would talk to those close to her or asking the teacher a question while the whole class watches her. If anything, she likes the attention.

She's very firm with her beliefs and opinions making her not want to back down in an argument. Her stubbornness keeps her in the moment and she tends to ignore anyone else's opinions because of it. Once she says something, she keeps her word and never forgets it. This also goes hand in hand with her loyalty. When she thinks you're a good person she won't leave your side unless she feels that you've betrayed her in some significant way.

Hyun-ah is incredibly organized and keeps her work and home spaces clean at all times. Hyun-ah was born into an upper-middle class family and lived with her mother, father, and younger sister in Busan, South Korea. Her family owned a relatively small restaurant there and she worked alongside her them. They all had their own respective roles in the business while also helping each other out when they needed it. Her father cooked the dishes, her mother worked the main counter and assisted her husband in the kitchen, while Hyun-ah and her sister served customers in the dining area and cleaned empty tables.

She would usually work and help out after coming home from school, not giving her enough time to herself to study or focus on school. She was always very stoic in nature because of her family business and she tended to stay up late at night doing homework and studying. Hyun-ah barely got enough sleep and was really only eating during school and late at night. She always thought that even if she did badly in school, she would always have the restaurant to fall back on.

Her mother knew this for the longest time and worried for her health and education. She wanted the best for her and knew that she had a lot of potential as a student. She researched several schools in South Korea and later discussed it with her husband. The two agreed to have her go to boarding school so that she wouldn't have to worry about them. They narrowed down their choices to Cheer Up Academy and later told Hyun-ah their decision. Of course, she didn't want to leave her friends and family and she debated with them and worried over how well off they would be without her there to help. They assured her that they would be fine and gave her some time to think about it. Not too long later she decided she would go and her family was ecstatic.

They waited until the end of the school year to have her leave. She said goodbye to her friends, classmates, and teachers and her family helped her pack her things for her first year at Cheer Up Academy.

Personality Minami Kou can be summed up by a lot of things. For example: winks, smirks and all too much physical affection. With addition of sharp, piercing eyes and a deep voice, he has more than once been given the title of a heartthrob.
A social butterfly with an introverted soul is what he is. Kou tends to talk to just about anyone in his surroundings, whether it is a classmate or a convenience store clerk. Only thing is, his social battery runs out after a while, leaving him literally exhausted. Being with too many people for too long can have him completely passed out on the couch for a week. He's very much aware of this, which is why he tends to take little breaks, like talking a little walk around campus or blasting music through his headphones.
As much as he'd like to pretend he's not, Kou is extremely emotional. He's easily angered and takes a lot of things to heart. It's visible too, considering that he gets all gloomy after a malicious comment. But even so, the boy tries to convince himself and others that he's made of stone. It doesn't work very well.

Kou pays little to no attention to the opinion of others, and is determined to do what he pleases. If he feels like climbing a building, he does. If he wants to join a kind of lame but super cute cooking club, he'll do so. As a matter of fact, telling him he can't do something will more than likely just fire him up more.
His reputation isn't something he's ever cared about either, even finding the idea useless. Putting more value on people because they have more friends, higher grades or a prettier face is a load of shit, in his opinion. Because of this, he's never once cared about who he hangs out with, or what he does to damage that reputation.

Biography
Kou was born and raised in Yoichi, a small town on Hokkaido, Japan. There he lived with his parents and five year older brother, Kaito. From the moment Kou was born, he and his brother were stuck together like glue. Were Kaito went, Kou tagged along like a lost puppy. They were very different, Kou was active and temperamental while Kaito was calm and kind. But still, they got along well.
Their parents weren't around much, they were hard working people who took double shifts to support the family. Because of this, Kou was practically raised by his brother. He depended a lot on him too, constantly asking him to fight off bullies or help him write a love letter to his crush.

The two shared an interest in baseball as well. Kou got that from his brother as well. They used to practice together almost every day. Obviously, Kaito was the better player of the two, which is why he was more of a trainer rather than a teammate. He taught him how to pitch and how to catch.

Years later, Kaito decided to move out to study. Even though he came home on the weekends and their parents were home, the house still felt empty. The
then twelve year old would call him every other day, even going so far as to ditch classes to visit his brother. That way, they could keep their close bond despite the distance.

When Kou was fifteen years old, he was sent abroad to an academy that promised to help students reach sky heights or something. He didn't really believe it, but his parents seemed to.

At sixteen, Kou traveled home over the break. His brother returned home as well. They were still extremely close, and spent almost every hour together. One sunday night, they had decided to go see a new superhero movie, and were headed toward the cinema. They were blasting some music Kou had discovered while in Korea, and everything was fine. That was, until they reached the last intersection before arrival, a car out of nowhere smashed into the right side of their car, flipping it upside down. Kou got out of there only with a broken arm and a cut on his forehead. His brother, however, didn't make it.
If Kou thought being rejected by his crush hurt, he'd never experienced heartbreak. For days on end, he cried into his pillow. He'd lost the most precious thing in his life. He saw no positive outcome, no real motivation. For nearly two months, he refused to leave his room. Surviving on only ramen and bottled water, Kou lost a lot of weight during his grieving process. So much so that when he returned to the academy after taking an extended break, he was shaped like a twig.

Eventually, Kou got healthier. With the help of friends and family, he was able to gradually get back to his old self. It's still a work in progress for him, but he's getting there.

Do-hyun is no doubt a quiet person, but by no means is he shy or socially-awkward. He's really just a soft-spoken person who tends not to speak out much. Or at least most people seem to think that he doesn't. He's essentially a background character among the rest.

He's very anti-social and aloof as he only really cares for his own personal interests and improving on said interests. If he doesn't feel the need to socialize with someone in the moment, whether it'd be to talk to his parents or ask the teacher a question, he won't. Do-hyun is in his own head and usually stays in that closed-off bubble.

Because of his lack of social interaction, Do-hyun is very self-critical. He's always looking to improve on the things he loves; especially volleyball. While others may praise him for being a good or well-rounded player, he'll always find something wrong with how he plays. This goes for small interests as well like video games. He'll spend hours on the same level just to get a perfect or higher score.

The few instances where Do-hyun does interact with people, he comes off as rude and irritable. He doesn't have a lot of empathy for people which makes it difficult for him to put himself in others shoes. It isn't hard for him to say what's on his mind when he's angry or upset because he doesn't realize how it affects people.

However, just because he acts in this way doesn't mean that he detests others. Contrary to this mannerism of his, a part of him expects to have people attempt to talk to him or help him feel better despite his bitter attitude constantly pushing people away.

Do-Hyun was born into an athletic family. His father and mother were going to the gym religiously and keeping active while his older brother was a varsity volleyball player. He hardly ever went against what his parents told him and always assumed that their decisions concerning him were always in his best interest.

During his childhood, he didn't show much of an interest in anything productive. He maintained a routine of going to school, coming home, helping around the house, and going to bed. He got average grades and didn't join any clubs or extracurricular activities at school. He was pretty much indifferent about it.

At some point in his life, his older brother begged his parents for a video game console and they eventually got it for him. They took it as an opportunity for Do-Hyun to find something fun to do while he could bond with his older sibling. This was how he developed his interest in video games and eventually became obsessed with them. His parents saw this as a problem and were worried that he would become anti-social and his grades would fall.

They urged him to try volleyball and have his brother teach him how to play. Again, this interest gained his attention when it was something that his brother was good at. He started going outside more and practicing, with or without the help of his sibling. He joined the volleyball club at his school and he was coming out of his shell.

His coach and peers noticed how much of a good player he was and this news got to his parents. They were pleased to hear this and soon found out about Cheer Up Academy through family members and friends who also noticed Do-hyun's immense love for volleyball. They enrolled him into the school hoping for him to do what he loves and to hopefully make friends.

Jin-ho is pretty indifferent to a lot of things and social interaction is one of them. Talking to people is an activity that the male neither likes nor dislikes, especially when it comes to strangers. While he is obviously more approachable around friends and people he finds interesting, he can still be a bit intimidating. The natural lines of his face make it appear as if he's always in a negative mood and people that don't know him may even think he's trying to pick a fight, even though he's probably the most relaxed person at the time. Because of this, his friends often joke about him being the Korean Mr. Scrooge and he generally plays along if he's in an okay mood.

When it comes to those close to him and the few that unfortunately capture his attention, Jin-ho can be rather fun at times. It's a surprising contrast to the public understanding of him. He'll make offhanded jokes fairly often and depending on so-and-so's reaction, he might even begin to tease. There's a rare chance that his victim might find him too assertive, but he's quick to catch onto people's feelings. If Jin-ho realizes someone wants to be left alone or wants company, he will respectively leave or sit quietly beside them. On that same note, he expects others to be as quick to catch on to things as he is. This can lead to many misunderstandings that he has trouble understanding.

Jin-ho's personality appears difficult to grasp mentally, but he's actually a very lucid person. On the outside he appears to be a cold-hearted individual, but he's a genuinely decent guy to be around. Like any normal person, he has faults but he does work hard at everything he does. If he feels he's wronged someone, Jin-ho will take it upon himself to do everything in his power to make it up to them. Unfortunately, the male has high expectations so disappointment is something that comes easily to him. He has a tendency to beat himself down when no one is around, often swimming until his muscle ache and burn the next day. His loyalty towards others has also blown up on him, so there are occasions when one can see the distrust in his eyes.

Anyone that approaches Jin-ho should approach him with general caution. It's easy to get close to him, but it's just as easy to find oneself floating away.

Jin-ho was born and raised in Busan by two doting parents, Lee Jae-eun and Ryu Jung-wook.
Growing up, Jin-ho idolized his father who was a former Olympic trainee. Although his father never made it to the actual Olympics, the young boy swore to himself that he would succeed and make his father proud.
Around age twelve, Jung-wook got into a car accident on the way from work, leaving Jin-ho and his mother behind. After only two years, however, his mother remarried and a man who had an older son and younger daughter.
Life became difficult for Jin-ho, but he pushed through with his training. He eventually decided attend Cheer Up Academy after being approached by one of their recruiters.
At present, Jin-ho doesn't really enjoy his home life so he really enjoys his academy life. Thankfully, some Olympic trainers are looking at him so he just has to make sure his last year of school goes well and smoothly.

After only meeting a couple times, Jin-ho somehow fell victim to the younger's flirtatious personality. He tries to avoid Yao as much as he could because he really doesn't want to deal with the pickup lines. That being said, he doesn't see their strange relationship as negative but the swimmer definitely feels the need to be on guard.

For whatever reason, Tae-hyun seems to strongly dislike Jin-ho. While they are the new co-captains of the male swim team, it's common knowledge that there was only supposed to be one leader. Jin-ho thinks it's really not a big deal since they are both captains, so he tries to stay out of Tae-hyun's way to avoid unnecessary conflict. Unfortunately, avoiding each other isn't an option.

Their friendship started off on a weird note, with Jin-ho finding Tsubaki in the swimming facility unannounced. He was still weirded out and actively avoided her for a while before realizing it was better to just sit down and comply. Now they're friends even though the female initiates conversations most of the time.

While her parents may have seen her behavior in Japan as worrisome, that rebelliousness is near nonexistent at Cheer Up Academy. Miho's a people-lover and natural pleaser, so she can't help but flock around those that are kind and accepting of her. That being said, she has a hard time distinguishing kindness and tolerance and doesn't really understand the concept of personal space. The line is so fine to her that people may think she's annoying or even burdensome at times, but that's all part of her naivety.

In a general sense, Miho is girl hiding behind a wall of innocence. She uses her child-like qualities to battle the realities of life, such as negative emotions and romantically confusing situations. The female would rather avoid such events and focuses on her own desires and dreams, but there are occasions where she'll stray away. Such occasions could be a new friend who peeks her interest or maybe a beautiful man she can't help but want to sculpt. Because of her quirkiness, however, said friend and beautiful man tend to be unaccepting of her and she's met with disappointment more often than not.

With that being said, she's a stubborn and competitive person and would never back down to a challenge. Her unwavering nature is what makes her externally strong and charming. When she sets her mind on something, she finishes without any doubt or hesitation and in doing so, she's sometimes blind to what goes on around her. While she can prioritize others, Miho prefers to protect herself first then focus on someone else.

Alone, Miho is a different person. She's very quiet and from afar she appears confused and lost in her own world. There's always a mess on her hands, whether it be clay, wood, or some other sculpting material. Her hands move without any previous thought and shape whatever bears on her heart and soul. The same goes with dancing. Whenever she's doing the two things she loves, she expresses herself in a way words could never. Miho is a lot more reserved when there's no one around for her to please. This side of her is hidden, unfortunately, and has yet to bloom for others to see.

Miho was born to a half-English, half-Arabic mother and a Japanese father whom met and fell in love in the heart of Tokyo, Japan.
Growing up as the youngest to two older sisters, Miho was met with much criticism as she was the "difficult" child. She had a hard time earning her parents approval and often faced the rather of her siblings.
Introducing Miho to dancing seemed to help for a few years, but Miho gradually began to see her mother's desire for her to dance as a chain. The young girl eventually began to rebel by coming home late, staying out with artistic friends, and gaining a scary amount of weight for a dancer.
Miho's mother eventually locked the girl up and put her on a strict diet, but that didn't stop Miho from acting out. While the weight left, her stubborn and competitive nature didn't.
Miho's parents decided sending her to Cheer Up Academy with their strict scheduling would fix her rebelliousness, however, they don't really know what to expect the outcome to be.

He chooses to be open about his emotions and is very empathetic. Yao loves to try new things and is on the adventurous side of life. Risk taker. Typically can be described as hyperactive and wild. Yao tends to have a more optimistic and enthusiastic mindset. He is easily driven and motivated to do things that interest him, and has a broad range of interest and abilities. Decided to take up language and can speak English, Chinese, some Japanese and Spanish. (Started at 12 years old)
Father left his mother for a job overseas and his mother refused to move the family. Yao stayed in Bangkok with his mom.
Transfered halfway through the first year to Cheer Up academy due to his Mother's insisting, not wanting him to stay in Bangkok after his father left.

Persona: Minsu is quite the people pleaser, and there's no getting around it. He likes it when people are happy with him and satisfied, and absolutely hates when it's the opposite. He'll actually go out of his way to meet people's needs, and it often causes him to forget about his own. This has lead him to be a "doormat" by more manipulative people, and he's often been in some sticky situations because he couldn't say no. He apologizes often, even when he's apologizing for something that has absolutely nothing to do with him. His people pleasing habits were developed when he was a young child because of his lack of self confidence and self esteem, and he hasn't been able to break the habits since. Despite this, he has been trying, and is now more open with his opinions and doesn't just agree with everything others say to be accepted.

Minsu is quite creative, and if he weren't devoted to volleyball, he'd probably be in an art club or something similar. Whilst he greatly enjoys the company of others (especially those that like him), he also enjoys drawing in a peaceful atmosphere. He likes to zone out and daydream whilst listening to music, even though it makes him late to quite a lot of things (especially classes). He gets bored quite easily, and doesn't like not being able to go out and do something, even if he's doing it by himself. Because of this, he has been to quite a few places, as his adoptive parents were quite rich, and could afford plane tickets if he wished to go to another country. He enjoys learning new languages, and because of this he is fluent in Japanese, Chinese, French, Russian, and English in addition to his native Korean. Despite all the languages he already knows, he still wishes to learn Spanish, Italian, and Thai. Because of the many languages he's fluent in, he can often get tongue tied, and it can lead to some embarrassing situations.

Despite being more outgoing than when he was a child, Minsu still suffers from lack of self confidence and self esteem. This stemmed from his nanny, who made him feel insignificant, and his siblings, who didn't accept him as much as his adoptive parents did. Volleyball has helped a lot with his self confidence, although not much with his self esteem. Despite this, he's a bit of a social butterfly and has quite a way with words (after a lot of internal contemplation).

Biography: Minsu was born to a relatively poor family, and was soon given up for adoption when they had run out of money. They were sad to part with him, but they didn't wish for their child to live on the streets like them. When Minsu was one, he was adopted by a large family of seven (now eight) and he became the youngest of six. Obviously, with such a large family they didn't have enough time to look after all of them, and he as well as the second youngest were most often left in the care of their nanny. When he was five his parents fired their nanny and charged her with neglect, as well as abuse when they had discovered strange bruises and markings on Minsu, and had secretly set up surveillance cameras. His parents became more aware of Minsu after the ordeal and didn't leave him in the care of a stranger after that.

There was a large age gap between him and his older siblings and thus, they didn't get along all that well, since Minsu was "too childish" for them. When he was five he began learning Japanese because of his interest in the subject, and when he was seven he started Chinese and French when he found that he was good at learning new languages. Because he was so invested in this, he had a hard time making friends and didn't get along with most of his brothers and sisters. Once his parents realized this, they signed Minsu up for some sports, in hopes to build his self confidence and help him get along with other kids. He was too small and physically weak for football, didn't like soccer, didn't want to learn how to swim, and wasn't interested in martial arts.

Finally, his parents signed him up for volleyball when he was ten, and he immediately took a liking to the sport. Because of his short stature he became the libero (unless it's already taken) and he took a liking to the position just as fast. They weren't all that successful in building his self confidence, but he definitely made more friends and was able to speak better. It's his second year at Cheer Up academy and he had spent the first one at the same schools as his siblings, but his parents wanted him to be different from them, and thus they signed him up and sent him to the academy when he was sixteen.

Relationships:
Yao: The two had met when Yao asked Minsu about Korean, and the two hit it off fairly quickly after that. Minsu often goes red eared to Yao’s teasing and flirting, but he doesn’t know whether or not Yao is actually interested in him or just being his normally flirty self. He enjoys Yao’s company and relaxes around him more than usual, causing him to temporarily forget about his people pleasing habits. He plans on learning Thai next and wants to ask Yao to help him with it, he’s just debating and trying to find a right time to. ~~And Minsu can’t forget how handsome Yao is becoming these days, were his eye always this grey?.~~

JJ: For some reason when they met, JJ adopted him as her son/brother. Minsu doesn’t actually mind, since he’s not close to any of his adoptive siblings. They’re really close, and Minsu always goes to JJ if he’s in some kind of trouble because of his people pleasing, and is always there to comfort her if she’s ever having a bad day.

Tsubaki: The two of them are art buddies, and Minsu will occasionally come to her for help with his drawing skills. A few times, Tsubaki has even drawn Minsu, forcing him to sit still whilst she drew or painted him. Minsu gets embarrassed, but he lets her do it nonetheless. Sometimes, they'll set up meetings for lessons or just to hang out sometimes, of which Minsu is often late to because he doesn't have a sense of time.

Hyun-ah: They're not exactly close because of their age difference, but they're close enough to be considered friends. They meet up every so often and say hello to each other in the hallways if they see each other. When Hyun-ah had heard that the younger was multilingual she practically begged him to say something in another language, to which he happily agreed to. Now, sometimes he'll just say something in another language when she's around just for her.

Do-hyun: Despite being on the same volleyball team, the two aren't particularly close. Minsu goes to Do-hyun sometimes if he needs help with practice, and they don't bother each other much. During the few times Minsu is late to practices (but never a game), he'll receive an earful from Do-hyun afterwards, and Minsu will swear up and down that he won't be late again (even though it's a lie).

Jin: Because of their different age groups and classes, the two aren't that close. However, Minsu is quite intimidated by the older, despite having never really holding a proper conversation. They see each other during some of the sporting events, and Minsu has seen Jin's more friendly personality when he's been around his friends once or twice.

Miho: Miho and Minsu are the same height, and relate to each other because of their short statures. He gets along quite well with her, and enjoys her company. Miho finds that Minsu's pushover nature is rather annoying and will often scold him if he says yes to something that he'd have been better off saying no to. Because they're both multilingual, they enjoy having some of their conversations in a different language (such as Japanese or English). Minsu also thinks that Miho is cute, and that her naivety is as well, causing him to want to preserve it forever, despite that being a little unreasonable.

Tae-hyun: The other sees Minsu as a “tiny Tae” because of their ~~height difference~~ somewhat similar backgrounds. They aren’t the closest, but they have had conversations, and see each other at sporting events from time to time.

Norio: Norio often praises Minu when they are together, despite not knowing much about his past. Because Minsu is late to ~~a lot~~ some of his classes, he’ll often miss out on a lot of the lesson. Whenever this happens, he’ll go to Norio for notes, and occasionally get help when it comes to studying as well (since Norio likes it and he basically hates it). They often speak in japanese together, since they’re both fluent in the language.

personality: fear of failure is tae-hyun's primary motivating factor and its always been what's pushed him though life. It's one of his fundamental drives - this fear of failure - and it (along with the weight of his own expectation) is what has kept him in his place as one of the top students academically in the school. But it also has its short-comings. For instance, there are some tasks tae-hyun won't even attempt if he feels he's any less then perfect at them. Then, there's the constant paranoid buzzing in the back of his head, the promise that there's always someone better, that keeps him on his toes. His obsession with perfection additionally can impact how he views others. He's not the best at empathy in these situations; can't even begin to understand why anyone would willingly throw themselves into things if they know the end result is little more then failure. Nonetheless he'll make an effort at understanding if he cares about the person and can see their effort. Strangers are for the most part beyond his understanding, though tears from anyone can leave him floundering for a sense of understanding.

competition - of course - is a given when one strives for perfection, and tae-hyun has grappled with the highs and lows of it since he was young, given his rank on the swim team. He's used to making it out on top, being the 'king-of-the-hill' and dealing with the hurt feelings that ultimately result from the lot of sore losers underneath his death path. tae-hyun thrives under pressure, feeling disappointment only when the contest or test of wills is over. And he's not above making a contemptuous remark about anyone who has proved themselves not up to the challenge of beating him. He's not used to losing, especially where swimming is concerned. But the times he does he'll wholeheartedly devote himself to the task of their defeat. He's used to having those who will proclaim themselves to be his 'rivals'. But for tae-hyun that title being given by him does not come easy.

Although to strangers he can come across as cold, for the most part tae-hyun does make an effort with those he cares about. He smiles more, is prone to sarcasm and the kind of honesty he wants to receive. He's never been one to listen to the rumor mill or any sort of gossip, finding both to be faintly repulsive. If he hates someone, he'll make it quite clear to them to their faces and otherwise is, as he'd put it, fake. It's hard for him to hold grudges as he ultimately does want to see the best in people. Not to mention, he's prone to forgetting most of these things too fast to ever start to contemplate revenge. It's also difficult for him to cut-off someone regardless of what they do once he considers them a friend. Nonetheless, enough can be enough sometimes and he'll do his best to move on.

For the most part tae-hyun is decidedly detached when it comes to his the loose majority of his peer-group. He's not necessarily rude unless provoked, having fought long and hard through his youth to keep his temper under control. All negatives aside, tae-hyun does have a softer side for some, children and small animals included. He has a bit of a white knight complex where the vulnerable are concerned, feeling a moral obligation to protect anyone with such a shortcoming. He feels this way towards those he cares about as well, and is prone to bursts of jealousy about sharing his precious people.

- tae-hyun grows up inside a large household of countless nanny's, servants and butlers all at his 55-year-old aunts beck and call. she tells him children should be seen and not heard. he does his best to follow her rules.
- as soon as tae-hyun gets old enough to question his 'luckiness', his aunt sends him off to his first boarding school - St. Augustine's Prep for Boys. he's 8 1/2 and its a single-gendered hell of spoiled boys looking for someone to punch their frustrations into between lessons. tae-hyun quickly learns how to fight back and keep his nose clean. he finds his first friends in the pool.
- five years pass, and word of tae-hyun's successes, academically and athletically (he's on the varsity swim and dive team) reach his aunt's ear.
- at his aunts request, a 14-year-old tae-hyun returns home for a year to resume his studies under an aunt-selected tutor. his aunt enjoys parading her young ward to all of her high-society friends. tae-hyun wishes she wouldn't.
- cheer-up academy becomes one out of the countless schools tae-hyun's aunt begins considering for hisbfuture. after all, she wants the house back to normal.
- tae-hyun doesn't bother protesting the day his aunt sends him off with little more then a hastily uttered 'don't call, I don't need another voice clogging up the landline'.

The guys on the swim team try to write off tae's misgivings as a paranoia ("Relax dude, he's not paying you much attention"), but tae-hyun knows better. And even if they're right he keeps a close eyes on this one. Just in case.

personality: she can't keep still. Whether it be her knee that's twitching, her head bobbing to some song only she hears (headphones in or out), her fingers twisting as she absently-mindedly doodles on the bits of inkless skin remaining on her palm - her limbs are constantly itching for action. In this way, tsubaki is always craving some sort of stimulation, whether it be drawing, talking, or the use of some illicit recreational substance. It's hard for her to truly focus on one task and the most peace you'll find her to have is when she's caught in the midst of her art. It can be doing something as simple as swirling colors, tuning her instruments, or even washing brushes - art does and probably always will captivate her. She's always looking for that next muse whether it be an object or a person. She's a true lover of things that are aesthetically pleasing and won't fail to stare (sometimes open mouthed and gaming) at those she finds particularly bewitching in appearance.

to tsubaki most everything and everyone is eye-catching in their own individual ways. And she'll feel this way about someone until they do something that she can only think of as ugly. That, more so then their actual appearance, taints Tsubaki's physical impression of them. After that it won't matter how pretty they are - all that will matter is that kink in the surface. In this way she's never been of the forgiving sort. She doesn't hold grudges, she just simply doesn't wish to associate with that person or situation ever again after she's expressed all she can emotionally.

tsubaki is among that rare group of people who keep close to nothing in. Her face is an open book of page-turning emotions, though what her features don't betray she will vocally through a mixture of sass and frankness that baffles most authority figures. tsubaki and authority doesn't much mix, especially if the authority behind the rules doesn't deserve much respect to begin with. And she's not afraid to use all of her linguistic skills and some choice expletives to express her passion if need be. She's the exact same way about uniformity, often complaining aloud about how foolish people are, to dress the same when they have the gift of choice. And for the most part tsubaki excercises this gift of 'choice' in any way she can, whether it be her wearing the brightest colors she can or protesting a uniform with as many rips and tears as she can make and the brightest neon socks.

where other people are concerned - Tsubaki likes to see the best in them. This is not to say, however, that she will allow herself to be stepped on for this utopian thought. But she'll defend an enemies honor in a truly unfair situation just the same as she'd defend that of a close friends - through a mixture of cheekiness and a just as high willingness to throw a fist when needed. She can't stand injustices, no matter how small. To top that off she can't stand people who grossly misinterpret themselves in the eyes of the world, the kind of people who think they simply deserve something because everything just been handed to them. She always has been the kind of person who would much rather get an suspension on her record then allow herself - or anyone else for that matter - to be talked down to or treated unfairly.

their are some sides of her that are more private, like the fact that most of the time she feels like she's out of control of everything or the fact that even though she's so good at putting on this 'tough-girls aura she's far more sensitive then others know. Her shortcomings are easy enough to hide and the lack of control manifests in the most criminal way - shoplifting - not that she's been caught doing so as of yet.

• backstory

- mahalia and minato meet, marrying within two months of their first date, much to their respective familys' displeasure
- the new couple move down to Malaysia to be closer to mahalia's more supportive family
- minato relocates to the US for business; sells his first company for a whopping $15M the same year
- mahalia is pregnant, minato moves back to Malaysia to be near her
- tsubaki is born & mahalia is put on bed watch the first few weeks for suspected illness
- 5 years pass - tsubaki is nearing 6 and mahalia is in the hospital still sick but undiagnosable. the situation is bleak but the dad-daughter duo try to visit often
- tsubaki is 11 - her mother has beat the odds with survival even though she's so thin now her bones poke through her skin. she makes tsubaki promise to be good. tsubaki tries to make her promise another ten years with them but she won't.
- tsubaki attends her first funeral at 6. she holds her dad's hand as he cries.
- minato buys tsubaki her first instrument - a cheap ukulele and she meets her first therapist. she tells her 'paint through the pain'. tsubaki laughs at the advice at first.
- tsubaki is out at a mall with some friends the first time it happens. she's passing a rack full of mascara tubes. she doesn't know why she does it - the money is heavy in her pocket - but she pockets the mascara. it feels oddly freeing.
- music becomes her place of solace, art becomes her escape. slowly - the rage at the world, her mom - begins to dullen.
- tsubaki and minato make the mutual decision to send her to cheer up academy. she packs slowly, says good bye to her friends, her first loves. but the leaving makes her feel lighter then ever.

Min-Ah was born in Canada.
Been drawing since she was 5
Min-Ah moved from Canada to South Korea when her parents jobs were transferred at the age of eleven
She has always been able to read Korean, however she never properly learnt to speak it. It took her a year to manage it but she's still learning.
At the age of twelve started to take singing lessons. She did not enjoy them because her teacher discouraged her and always down-put her
At fourteen, it came out that her singing teacher was sexually harassing other students and she was locked up. The teacher hated Min-Ah for her youth, voice and inability to stand up for herself (along with three other young female students)
At 15, Min-Ah decided to embark on the long road to stardom.
At 16 she joined Cheer Up Academy with dreams to better herself
