Chat box?

So this is my third year at RpN. I took a LONG break, and I come back to some MAJOR changes. One of which there being a new site owner. But what put me off the most was the chat box being gone. That was one of my favorite things about the site. It was a place, for those who don't know, where site members (along with staff) could communicate in a chat-room type of system. It was a great way for members to make friends, and to find great roleplays with people who had similar interests. Does anyone mind telling me what happened to it? I'd love to know.

Well in that last few years chat has undergone several iterations, including the standard Shoutbox, a Facebook-like messaging system, back to the Shoutbox again, and on until eventually we created a Discord server. That was recently shut down, and you can read all about it here.

The original SB you remember had functionality issues because it was so old it was no longer very compatible with the current updates of the site. Since then, the staff went through a variety of other options, but none of them suited the site's needs/functionality. At this time, there is no shoutbox or chat, and I am not sure if there is plan for one in the future or not. That said, the staff have been wonderful about expanding the discussion sections to involve more topics that typically arose in chat.
