Digital Character Art

KyoDemer

D^3 CEM Team Leader.
You can thank Thorn Darkblade for pulling me back into this.

He pointed me to this part of the forum so, here I am.

Usernames aside, Kyo Demer is my main character.

I've been drawing him for the past...many years.

Some are more in depth and even include a background.

(Done earlier than the one above.)

I've played around with this character so much but I forget that this guy is really two characters.

One is the person you always see. The other is the person he never wants you to see.

=====================================================================

All the above drawings started life as a pencil drawing on paper, was scanned in and then digitally colored in GIMP.

Short answer: he is a half elf.

Long answer: Kyo is a solar half elf and half demon original character I created for a project I have been working on. (Think of half elf as its own race.)

In terms of gaming, he has only shown up in one game, a homebrew that my friend runs on alternating Thursdays.

I have not found many game systems in which I can make Kyo in. The two that I can build Kyo are BESM and GURPs. I came really close to running Kyo in a BESM game when my then character looked like he was going to die.

(I am active in seven RPGs in real life. I've turned down two others because of that.)

Monday night has a four game rotation: Champions, Marvel, WoD, ADnD

Wednesday night only has one that alternates: GURPs

Thursday night has a two game rotation: Amber and Homebrew.

The backgrounds imply sci-fi...and half elf half demons usually don't occur in sci-fi....interesting. Anything written up about this homebrew setting?

Because the setting is indeed sci-fi. As I like to think about it: High tech meets high magic.

Take a look at the two proses I posted and some snippets of text I posted in DA. There is quite a bit I haven't posted, though.

The height of tech is semi-advanced nano technology. (Mapping out ones nervous system is used as a biological key for some technologies. ie: powered armor) FTL space flight is very common.

The extreme opposite is magic that is so common that anyone can use it regardless of training or aptitude. (Sigel based magic is extremely common.)

There are hybrid technologies simply and unimaginatively referred to as magi-tech. (There is an add-on to the power armor that uses magi-tech for long range secure communications.)

Out of curiosity, what kind of things does a system need to do to render Kyo?

The requirements change based on where in my projects timeline you pull from. For your question, I will mention requirements for Kyo as I present him on the forums.

1: This is a general requirement, the game system must have support for a sci-fi setting or the flexibility to include Fantasy elements in sci-fi or vise versa. (This is a general requirement and most systems I have played meet this requirement. The only that does not is DnD.)

2: There are advantages and disads that Kyo would 'have.' A good example is Kyo would have the advantage: enhanced senses but the disad: unstable.

3: The game system must have player defined shapeshifting. This is what eliminates most systems, including one of my favorites, nWoD. (That is, if I remember the rules right...)

4: The game system should have (but not required) some mechanic to handle powered armor.

These are the four main mechanics needed for me to run Kyo Demer as a character in a game.

I hope that answered your question.

(After thought: Another game system that has the flexibility needed is Champions. I have the DOS based character creator for this system.)

Lemme see...

FATE, various permutations.

Exalted, certain Shards content.

Maybe Eclipse Phase if your GM is willing to play ball

Likewise possibly Cthulhutech if your GM has a lot of free time.

And my own system, Crucible, with minimal prodding.

Minimal prodding? So, no cattle prod needed?
I've got stats for a magical uh... crowd suppression implement that could double as a cattle prod.

:D

Meets number three sort of. As the other half of Kyo, Dark Kyo, would have the mutation: Shadow Touched, Kyo would not have that mutation.

Quick build for Crucible would have Kyo not have the mutation shadow touched, but instead have shapeshift to Dark Kyo who would have shadow touched. Kyo would be trained for half plate and use a two handed sword being classed as a 'monster slayer'

Did I get that right?

Oh, I didn't know you'd read it. That is an effective quick build, true enough, but it wouldn't be hard to shuffle things to fit more.

Kyo might be most at home in the Darkening Skies variant, which uses mostly the same rules with a few added features (the game I'm running feels a bit sci-fi sometimes because of the higher-end manatech).

This one answers four with a resounding YES! But deeper reading seems to indicate prodding would be needed for three.

Eitherway, three needs prodding.

Very little, to be honest.

I allow for custom mutations, so; (Something Cool Sounding) Form: Kyo reveals his inner darkness, growing claws, spines, and horns. This form grants him darksight, Slashing damage on unarmed attacks, and +1 on Intimidation rolls. However, he suffers -1 to all rolls when exposed to direct sunlight.

...Or something of that sort.

You have my attention. I'm curious, as I looked for a Crucible RP and found none. Are planning to run one?

You'd probably be waiting awhile, but there is conceivably space here following some player dropouts.
