Calypso’s Room: Calypso and Narrante

As Calypso and Narrante talk the night away in Calypso’s room. Suddenly the talk is brought to an end with the sound of an explosion in the distance. Looking out the balcony the two Exalted woman see a fire developing besides the Duke’s manor, and a large couple of smoke rising out of the area. There is then a trio of smaller explosions that go off in succession off in the distance by the wall of Icehold, and another fire breaks out. Then turning in another direction, they can see another fire seeming to spring up along the docks in the warehouse district.

A chaos begins to take over the city as confusion reigns and fires burn.

…A little bit earlier…

Duke’s Palace: Anoke and Jorik

All the major issues addressed, including what to do about Diamond Refuge, resolved. Duke Walks rubs his eye in fatigue. “I think that is enough for one afternoon.†He turns to the window. “Well night now. If everyone would like I could have a light dinner ordered and…â€

What Walks was about to say is drowned out when the sound and shockwave from an explosion hits the room. The room for a moment is encased in a bright light. The glass gets blown into the room, and smoke begins to drift into the room. As everyone’s vision begins to clear from the painful light caused by the explosion they see the room turned from an orderly study into a place of chaos. There is a cry of pain, and Walks to see that his wife had been hit in the arm and side with shards of glass. “Bright!,†Walks yells in surprise and anguish. He stumbles over to her to see what he can do.

Ledaal Ginio seems to have somehow avoided the worst of the shower of glass despite being right next to one of the now glassless windows. He is seen hunching down by his chair which seems to have taken the brunt of the impact of the glass. The armor and supernatural toughness of the Exalted in the room protects them from the worst of the calamity that struck the room. Yelling, screams, and cries of pain seem to be coming from everywhere after a few, all too long and painful moments pass.

Icehold Streets Near Duke’s Palace: Impact of the Twice Taut Chain

Impact of the Twice Taut Chain walks the streets of Icehold gathering information, its various residents, and the region. It was always best to be thoroughly prepared to do ones mission. Having only recently entered the city on board the Guild merchant ship that arrived a couple of days previous.

He looks up at the sky and the seemingly endless black void that hung over this strange world. With nothing solid above him, it seemed as though he could fall forever into the sky. He had thus far not seen anyone fall into the phenomena above him, but he had seen many strange things here in this world called Creation.

In order to get a solid layout of the city, and its places. Chain finds himself near the Duke’s palace, White Haven. Apparently the Duke was some equivalent to a sole ruling Tripartite. At least that was how it was before the Exalted had recently shown up in the city in any event. Causing the whole city , and the role of its individuals, to be frustratingly hard to figure out.

Looking down far down the street near the palace Chain sees a small group of individuals pushing a cart along the streets. A pair of guards approach the card. Seemingly intent on questioning them for some reason. An argument seems to develop, and there is a slight struggle. Suddenly there is a spark by the cart, and an explosion rocks the street. Spreading rock, debris, heat, and smoke. Looking up after the explosion clears. Chain sees a hole has been blown in the wall surrounding the palace, and the palace itself partially damaged. Out of the periphery of his vision he sees at least a couple dozen cloaked individuals run across the street towards the hole in the palace walls.

As Chain walked the streets, almost in a daze, he sorted through the torrent of new information, and the mixture of feelings it gave him: The beautiful palace he walked past; the besieging blue creatures that reminded him of gremlins in their mentality and behavior; the overwhelming sensation of freedom whenever he walked under the open, what is it called, sky?; and then these other Exalts- He had read of the shining ones in The Tome, but he had learned they were myth in his brief stay in Creation, up until now. His anticipation to meet these Solars was only matched by his anxiety.

And then there was the moral ambiguity of his most recent personal enterprise nagging in the back of his mind. Do ends justify means? In Creation, his contract is nothing out of the ordinary, but it was so foreign to him. His thoughts would have strayed further if not interrupted by a large explosion just ahead of him.

Jumping into action Chain hurled his large frame in immense earth shaking strides towards the calamity. He sees the individuals heading for the hole, he almost cries out to them in Autochtonian, but then continues in Skytongue, "Please to stop citizens! There is danger!"

Chain

The individuals continue to run into the palace grounds. Completely ignoring Chain’s words with a purpose. He quickly sees as he approaches that these individuals are carrying weapons under their cloaks, and quickly draw them as they get to the palace grounds. Inside the courtyard Chain sees a guard stumbling around trying to regain his senses when a pair of the cloaked individuals decent on him running him through with a pair of spears. He also sees a man chanting for a bit, as though using thaumaturgy or Sorcery, Creations equivalent of Man-Machine Protocols. He completes his casting, and begins to make his way into the ruins.

Jorik

The survivalist hermit with Jorik rears itself to the front taking charge once more, habits taking over. He doesn't look or take much care about the others, he's never really had to. He steps right up to the window and looks out into the vastness of the evening, trying to catch sight of what happened and where. Even with the lingering spots in his sight and the lack of night sight from spending such time in a well lit room.

He knew something was very wrong and needed to know what.

Since all darkness and visibility penalties are external it's up to you archivist how much of a success I really get.

Here's the Perception awareness roll.

9d10 → [7,4,1,3,5,2,7,6,6] = 29d10 → [7,4,1,3,5,2,7,6,6] = 2

Well I saw nothing. Since dim darkness is 1ex, and total is 2ex, I still need to overcome sneaky mcSneaker-spy-ssasin-mob's stealth roll.

Calypso

The conversation interrupted, Calypso leaps to her feet and looks out the window. Two dangers at once... Well, the others are at the palace; they can handle the wall. She will handle the warehouse district.

"Come on!" She calls over her shoulder to Narrante before, without second thought, she leaps down from the balcony. Calypso's anima flares brighter as she approaches the ground, and, with surprising speed, takes off down Icehold's streets towards the scene of the fire. As she dashes, a faint after-image lingers in the eyes of those watching her.

(Running towards the warehouse district)

Chain considers using Essence Reallocation Protocol to snuff the magic, but grits his teeth and abstains instead. I can not reveal myself as of yet. Seeing the weapons, his suspicions are confirmed: Foul play. Chain realizes these are no mere accidental explosions, a common hazard in the Realm of Brass and Shadow. The large 'man' continues to lumber towards the nearest offender drawing his sword and shouting,

"I said to halt!"

Guessing I should join battle?

7d10 → [4,9,9,5,10,9,2] 5 successes

Duke’s Palace

As Jorik looks out into the courtyard, he is unable to really tell what is going on. The smoke, fire, and trying to adjust his vision from the light of the explosion make it too difficult to see what is going on outside. He hears of screams of pain, fury, and the clash of weapons of weapons.

When Chain approaches the nearest cloaked figure, a couple of them turn towards him. From their raised weapons, they clearly have hostile intents.

OOC
Let’s just go ahead and get a Join Battle Roll for Anoke and Jorik also. [OOC] Calypso: Warehouse District The streets of Icehold are in a growing state of confusion and chaos as Calypso nears the warehouse district. Calypso sees multiple warehouses now on fire, and a number of other threatened by the expanding inferno. Calypso sees a number of dead people in the streets. A couple of guards run towards one of the warehouses, but they are struck down from arrows. Looking up, Calypso sees a pair of Valhal warriors shooting down the panicked people down on the street from the roof of one of the warehouses. Around the warehouse Calypso can see more Valhal warriors spreading some liquid along the perimeter of the warehouse.

Calypso

It doesn't take Calypso long to realize that letting those men continue is a bad idea. Dashing towards the warehouse, the arrows hurtling through the air suddenly change their course and pause, halting so that Calypso may use them as a step ladder up to the rooftop. With a sway of her shoulders, she is over the other side, and bringing the Valhal with her...

As Calypso leaps over the building, the Valhal feel invisible ropes draw tight around their throat, sending them soaring briefly, before each one lands head-first on the ground with a hard crack.

Flurried Mind-Hand Manipulation attack against three of the Valhal. Their DVs are all at -3 unless they're essence wielders.

5,5,5,8,2,10,5,7,1,7,4 - 5 successes

1,6,4,6,6,9,5,7,4,5 - 2 successes

5,6,10,3,8,9,8,3,8 - 6 successes

I'll let you be the judge of whether that'd be lethal or not. Either way, gonna wait for extra successes for damage.

Narrante

The ninja was at the balcony just as quick as Calypso, staring out at the flames that burst onto the dark landscape with a force that was almost felt where they stood. Calypso did take the lead to head out, however, surprising Narrante by leaping out of the window. Though confused by the strange effects of her anima, Narrante pulled herself together and leapt from the balcony back onto the rooftops, trailing after her companion from above.

Narrante wasn't sure what to expect from the woman, but the bizarre display as she attacked the archers made her wonder if she were seeing things. She managed to spot the men pouring...something around the warehouse on the ground, though, and supposed they were as good a target as any. They were dressed the same as the men from the rooftop, and whatever they were doing, it wasn't extinguishing the nearby flames.

Her golden sword flashed from its sheath as she ran along the edge of the nearby roof. At its edge, she leapt and hurtled down towards the nearest Valhal, her sword flickering in the changing light of the nearby fires in a sweeping downward arc.

((This is my first attempt at battle...Does she need a Join Battle roll, or just an attack roll? I don't know if the aerial attack helps any, but it seemed fun)

Anoké Jandro

Picking bits of glass out of his hair, Anoké rises from the floor, having been knocked prone from the blast. He's scowling. "Duke Vendel," he says, staring out the broken window, "I'd like to thank you for this evening. It's been productive." He looks to Jorik. "Please make sure our hostess is attended to before joining me."

Without any other warning, he leaps past the jagged glass into the night.

Not sure how high up we are, but if needed I can take advantage of his Athletics specialty.

The cloaked figures before Chain are stunned by the sudden appearance of the large ‘man’ in their midst’s. Stunned for precious seconds they don’t have.

The Duke looks up from his injured wife. “Find out who has done this! I wish to see them punished for their crimes!†He yells as Anoke jumps down into the dark.

Narrante

((Ah, get it now. Here we go:

8 10 4 3 1 10 9 1 = 6 successes. Narrante's off to a good start)

Jorik

He watched Anoke tumble out the window leaving his request behind him. His only thoughts were. "What does he expect me to do, pact her into declaring before heaven she won't die?"

He sighs and walks backwards to the window. "This will certainly hurt." That thought not very much comfort at all as he readies to accompany Anoke outside. "I am no man of medicine Duke. I pray your wife lives, meantime I will do what I can to find the culprits." With that said he tumbles out the window and does his best to brace and slow his fall to the ground.

I have no Idea how high up this room is. So here goes Dex Athletics and gritting teeth to take some hurt.
(6,1,2,10,10,4,4 - 4 successes. Calypso's on the ball. Also, not sure what their soak is.)
Their Soak is 6B/3L. The window everyone is jumping from for the Duke's palace is a second story window, so I figure everyone is ok from that. I should be able to post for the game later today.[OOC]

Chain focuses on the group as he charges at them, a red geometric targeting reticle appearing in his vision. It bounces from subject to subject until settling on the closest shadowy figure. Chain's movements become clipped, embodying the pinnacle of the economy of motion. He drops to the ground and slides past the figure, bringing the flat of his blade solidly into his legs. As the attacker hits the ground Chain comes to a stop on his feet facing the now downed victim,

"Stay down citizen and await questioning."

Aiming for 2 ticks then spending 2m personal on Dynamic Reaction Enhancement System to drop my attack speed to 3. Also, his aim creates successes instead of dice and cancels all called shots penalties (like the -1 for pulling blow and the -2 for forcing knockdown.) thanks to his optic enhancement with Motion Tracking Targeting Glance.

11d10 → [10,3,7,7,5,5,7,3,1,8,8]+2 succeses = 9successes

How are stunts going? Do we post action then roll, or post action and roll and then just roll the stunt separate?(like I have assumed)

Bashing damage, since it's bludgeoning. You said before that we don't roll for extras, in which case they're all out like a light. If that's not the case...

One: 1,3,3,5,2 - Nothing

Two: 6,2,6,3 - Nadda

Three: 7,5,9,5,4,4 - 2 successes

Anoké Jandro

Landing in a crouch, Anoké surveys the scene. Gaping flaming hole, bunch of cloaked figures with weapons fighting a larger figure, and-

Jorik?

As the other Eclipse lands beside him, Anoké gapes. "Well, she certainly got better fast!" he shouts at his companion, with incredulous fury. "Did you even bother calling for a chirurgeon? Or think this might be an assassination, or a liberation of our captive?" He jabs a finger towards the damaged sections of the palace, the anger draining from his face. "I need you to keep an eye on things inside! You're defense, I'm offense!" he yells, his tone urgent.

Anoké takes off towards the fight. Imperceptible to mortal eyes, his ambient essence whorls into place around his feet and fists, infusing them with the indomitability of the dawn. He considers striking the largest man first, but decides against it--if the men with swords were attacking him, likely he wasn't as much of an enemy.
