Drew Addams hated his job. Set aside the fact that not only did he have to get up at the crack of dawn to start at 6 A.M. every weekday, he had to deal with the dozens of angry customers that popped up onto his line. Granted, that was to be expected for being a telephone operator yet it still made the man grumpy. Today was not any different. He ended up barking at the last twelve customers even though they had been pretty harmless from what he could gather from their conversations simply because he was in a foul mood. Drew had no one else to blame but himself for this however. He had decided to work over time into the evening hours as he had no better place to be on a Friday evening, and all it had done him was further sour his mood. When the clock struck 8pm, Drew hurriedly grabbed his coat and sprinted down the stairs and out the door of the building. Had he been looking where he was going, he would have seen the gorgeous girl walking in front of him, before he sent both her and him toppling to the ground.

Jaylynn had spent the better part of her day running in one of the empty fields with her horse, racing him and of course losing but having a hell of a lot of fun doing so. He was one of those big dog horses and she considered him her best friend. Often she would play a new song for him, valuing his always apparent opinion. However after her country girl fun, she returned him to his pasture and went inside to take a shower. Unlike most girls it didn't take her too long to get ready, pulling her wet hair into a braid that ready the middle of her back and putting on a dress, thankful for the warm summer night ahead. After a quick once over, she slung her dark leather guitar case over her shoulder and headed out to the local music club. It was eight by the time she was in the main town and of course, she was in her own little world, so when she was ran into, she yelped and fell in a way that ensured that her guitar didn't get damaged.

Drew was on top of a girl. Reality of the situation didn't fully hit him until about two seconds after he had landed on top of her, as he realized he was staring into a pair of very frightened eyes. Quickly he got up, and turned to the fallen woman. "I am so..so sorry about that ma'am. I wasn't looking where I was going." Drew saw a guitar case lying next to her and he picked it up, trying to help her in any way he could. Wincing for the hellstorm that was no doubt about to rain down upon him, he offered his hand to her. "Need a hand?"

She shook her head gently at him as he began apologizing however when he picked up her guitar, she sort of froze. Gently, she took his hand and pulled herself up, dusting off her dress and legs. "Hey, it's alright. No harm, no foul. It was just as much my fault, I was in performance mode rather than actually paying attention to where I was walking. With great caution, Jay took her guitar case from him and opened it slightly, only to breathe a sigh of complete relief when she saw it was still in perfect shape. "Thank god."

Did she really just say performance mode? Drew scratched his head. She seemed familiar but for some odd reason he could not place where he knew her from. The exhaustively long day at work had fried his brains making it not work as fast as it normally did, and he watched her as she examined her guitar. He whistled a sigh of relief that mimicked hers, and spoke up scratching the side of his face, "I'm glad I didn't cause it any damage. It looks like a pretty expensive guitar you got going on there." He eyed the thing up and down and then looked up at her. "Are you a performer?"

Jaylynn zipped it up again and slung over her shoulder once more. "Yeah, it's worth more in sentiment though." When asked if she was a performer, she nodded to him. "Mhm! Usually I just do small bar performances like tonight but I have a couple EPs on iTunes... Not to brag or anything! Really... And like I said, I stick to small things anyway, more sincere audiences, ya know?"

It suddenly clicked in his head who she was and he staggered back, starstruck. "You're..you're.." Standing before him was Jaylynn Baleigh Samuels, the Jaylynn Baleigh Samuels; the same Jaylynn who had been the only source of light during the dark days of his breakup with Kelli. Jay's music was the music that kept him going everyday and the fact that he was standing in her presence, felt honorable to him. However, Drew realized he must be appearing delusional to the poor girl by his actions upon meeting her thus far, and calming himself down he cleared his throat. "You're playing at a small bar tonight? Which one?"

Jay quirked a brow at him for a moment before realizing what that look meant. She laughed softly, sort of brushing it off as she wasn't one to know how to deal with fans very well. Not that she wasn't grateful for the support because she so was but it make her a bit uncomfortable. So, she didn't bother him about his reaction, instead waving him to follow as she turned. "Walk there with me, if I don't get going, I'll be late and I sort of need the money. So, stranger, what's your name?"

Drew couldn't walk with Jay. He was already late home, and he had already had the very strict plans of going home and sleeping. However, it wasn't everyday that Drew had anything good happen in his life equivalent or even close to the equivalent of a person who had helped him during the roughest of times without even realizing it, drop out of the sky and into his life. Thankfully his lips did not betray what his head was saying, and he walked beside her down the road. "I'm Drew." he held his hand out to her as they continued down the street to shake hands. "And you are?"

She smiled when he followed and kept calm about this whole thing. When his hand was offered to her, she gently shook it. "I'm Jaylynn but you can call me Jay, only my mom calls me Jaylynn when I'm in trouble." Laughing softly, she let her hand fall from his with an even brighter smile, she squared her shoulders a bit and gave a happy sigh though she fought to stay in the moment. "It's nice to meet you Drew, even if you did tackle me like a football player," she teased.

Drew chuckled softly, "Played football all throughout high school, I guess those habits never die." They walked along the empty silent streets, with the street lights lighting the world around them. Drew kept peeking looks at Jay out of the corner of his eye, noting the natural beauty she emanated. He wanted to talk to her and learn all about the girl behind the music, but didn't want to appear creepy in any way to the girl. Drew decided to tread lightly, and scratching the nape of his neck he nonchalantly asked her, "Where exactly did you say you were playing tonight?"

"Ah, well that explains it," she said with a laugh, the sound seemed to fill the streets with life. She noticed the looks and she got them often so she didn't bother to mention it or even get upset by it because honestly, it didn't upset her. "I didn't, I'm just making you come with me. That is... unless you have something or someone waiting for you at home, then I won't make you come and watch me sing a few covers."

Drew laughed. "No offense little lady, but you're not forcing me to do a thing. I'm being a gentleman of my own free will." They walked on and Drew noticed something about Jay seemed fake. Not in the sense of Hollywood cinema fake, not even close. Jay was real and personable. The falseness he caught was her pretending she was perfectly content and happy when it was clear to him she wasn't close. "Hey, uh. Are you alright?"

Jaylynn playfully rolled her eyes at him, she was almost sure that even if she seemed stand offish with him, he could have came when she asked. "Oh of course! I'm just trying to keep myself from zoning into my own world like I do before one of these little shows. I'd much rather have a conversation. Thank you for asking though, that's very kind of you. Anyway, what kind of music do you like?"

He raised an eyebrow at her but let the subject fall. "I don't know," Drew said shrugging his shoulders. "I only have a small amount of songs on my iPod I listen to regularly." And more then half just so happen to be your debut album. Drew turned to her and tapped her guitar case lightly with his leg, trying to play things smoothly and not freak Jay out. "What about you?"

Jay laughed softly at his oh-so-vague answer. "A lot actually. Anything from country to rock. Broadway to rap. I really like a lot of music but my songs tend to boarder on Folk and are most definitely in the Singer/Songwriter category." The bar seemed to approach all too soon though she wasn't gonna not be excited to perform. Leaning in the doorway, she asked, "so you gonna stick around or is this a dine and dash sort of thing?"

Drew couldn't help but slyly grin at her while she stood in the doorway. She was gorgeous; he couldn't deny that fact. He chuckled softly and walked up to her before stopping right in front of her. "Wouldn't kill me to have a beer and listen, I suppose." He winked at her and then crossed the threshold, entering the bar that smelled like cigarette smoke and cheap liquor.

"Awesome." She smiled, letting him walk by before walking in after him and beelining for the manager. He was about to scold her for being late but she told him that she was a few minutes early and had never and would never be late for a gig. After sorting that out, he let her go to the small corner stage to set up, handing her duct tape for her set list. Jay set her guitar case against the wall and bent down to tape her set list, discretely signing it once it was down, a surprise for Drew. It was small since they only wanted her on for a max of four songs, other artists having been booked. So, she chose four of her favorites.

Jay smiled to herself as she got her guitar out, the strap was a blue and tied at the top of the neck of the guitar was a small dream catcher. Taking a big breath, she turned around to face the intrigued crowd and adjusted the mic before adjusting her capo, resisting the urge to hold her pick in her mouth. "Hey guys! Thanks for comin' out tonight. For those of you who don't know me, which I'm gonna guess would be most of you, I'm Jaylynn Baleigh Samuels. And instead of boring you with original songs, I've picked four of my favorite songs to cover for you guys. Hope you enjoy!" And with that, she began.

Drew sat at the bar in awe. For months he had listened to Jay's music on a tiny little contraption, and she was performing in the flesh right in front of him. Drew found himself smiling at her while she played. He had never before seen such a person as passionate as she was about the songs she was singing. She was getting into the songs. Unlike most performers, she actually seemed real. Every time a song ended, Drew would whistle loudly for her while the beer he had ordered lay untouched on the counter. When she finished up her last song in her set, Drew not only whistled for her but went up to the stage. "That was absolutely brilliant. Who knew the little lady could sing?" He chuckled and waved his hand. "I'm just giving you a hard time." Drew scratched the back of his head, a nervous habit he had done ever since his junior high years. "Say, you wouldn't mind getting a drink or anything, would you?"

Jaylynn heard the crowd but at the same time she didn't, only paying attention to the cords she played and the notes she sang. After each song there was a small introduction to the next, a reason why she liked it or what it meant to her. When she finished up, she was quick to put her guitar away, stashing the capo and pick first. At the sound of Drew's voice she turned, laughing softly. "You knew, I know that you knew." She bent and carefully pealed off the signed set list, folding the silver duct tape over to stick on the backside of the paper. "This is for you and I would love to get a drink, just don't expect me to get anything girly."

Drew was shocked at the gift Jay had given him. The very fact that he had gotten to meet, converse, and watch her play live was rewarding enough, and to add this to it, was so kind of her. Drew was extremely thankful. "Thank you," Drew began and raising an eyebrow at her he continued. "Little lady can sing AND drink?" Playfully, Drew laughed and elbowed her gently. "No offense, but I'd of taken you for an apple martini or something weak like that."

"You're more than welcome. Thank you." Jay laughed with him, rolling her eyes at him before heading over to the corner part of the bar, seating herself there. "Oh please! You must know nothing about me! And I bet you couldn't even pick my guitar out of a crowd," she teased, "It's a Jack Daniels guitar for a reason. However I'm more of a Woodford Reserve fan. If I'm trying to get drunk then I'll do shots but still, nothing girly."

Drew smiled and laughed as she finished up her little remarks. "I must know nothing about you, hey?" While they walked over to the bar, Drew asked for a beer for Jay from the bartender and to put it on his tab. He pulled out a chair for her to sit in like a gentleman at the counter and sat in front of her so they were staring into each other's eyes. "Tell me all about you then."

Jaylynn smiled, nodding in thanks for the beer before taking a drink. "Well, there's not much to know that can't be gathered from my songs or a google search. However the only things I don't come right out and say in my songs is that I come from farmers and I have an older brother and younger sister." She shrugged a bit before drinking more. "Tell me about yourself."

Drew was delighted to learn a bit about Jay she didn't share publicly. It was another sort of gift for him to receive for the night and he was appreciative. "A farmer's daughter," Drew took a sip of his beer before continuing, "who can sing and drink. You're an interesting card, Ms. Samuels." Drew scratched his chin before looking up at her again. "Oh, not much too me. I grew up here, had a normal life. I was captain of the football team, and life was good." Drew took another sip of beer to stop himself from talking about the crash his life endured. "I'm a telephone operator now. I was working late tonight, which is why I ended up falling on top of you."
